Flow-y, But With Pants

A combination that I really, really love, but don't wear nearly enough, is the combination of a dress over pants:

It can just be such a hard look to get right.  The proportions can go wacky, and stumpifying, very quickly. (And, trust me, no one wants to look both wacky *and* stumpified.  One or the other, sure, why not?  But not both).  Still, as I said, it's a look I love and one I'll keep trying.

That being said, I rather like this iteration:

Turtleneck: Gap (similar)  Dress: thrifted vintage
Pants: Gap (similar)  Belt: thrifted vintage  Boots: Franco Sarto "Eminent"

I think wearing the dress partially open over the pants helps minimize any damage I'm doing with these proportions.  And even if it's not, I still like this version because it is great for swanning about without freezing my nethers. It's flow-y, but with pants.  So, you know, win-win.

Not Impressed

So, this combination of cardigan and dress drove my coworkers crazy:

Dress: Old Navy  Cardigan: thrifted (similar)  Sandals: Dune London "Ivanna"

They assured me that they liked outfit well enough, but complained that it doesn't match.  I agreed, but offered that it *does* go.

They did not look impressed with that explanation.

Blushing Rose Quartz Linen

I can't remember what this color is called this year:

Is it still blush?  In Spring 2013 Pantone called it Linen.  This Spring, they called it Rose Quartz.

I've decided to split the difference and call it Blushing Rose Quartz Linen:

Yes.  Blushing Rose Quartz Linen, paired with cream and leopard:

Cardigan: thrifted (similar)  Blouse: LOFT (similar)
Skirt: thrifted vintage (similar)  Sandals: Kate Spade New York

That totally explains this look.

Flares for Fall

As you've probably noticed from every blog and magazine you read, flares are a huge trend for fall.  I've been wearing flares on this blog since it's inception, making me either woefully behind the times, or preternaturally ahead of them.

These particular flares are new though:

And... I'm not sure.  I think I prefer a larger, more dramatic flare, to offset my larger, more dramatic hips.  I'm not sure these are offsetting a damn thing:

I mean, my thighs looked at these and called them "bootcut" which, as everyone knows, is a terrible insult to a flared jean.

Still, they do fit well:

And I like the wash and the fact that the fading is minimal.

I guess what I'm saying is that I do like these jeans:

Blouse: thrifted Jones New York (similar)
Jeans: Gap Skinny Flares  Shoes: Franco Sarto "Gabba"

I just thought there'd be more flare there.

Blush and Plaid

This is probably one of the most matchy-matchy outfits I've ever worn:

And I don't care, I love it.

Mostly because I've been waiting for ages to wear this skirt:

It's a vintage Pendleton that I thrifted before I left Oregon last year.  It spent the next several months in storage, and by the time it made it out, it was too warm for wool.

I'm happy to announce that it is no longer too warm for wool:

In fact, it's the perfect weather not only for wool, but for trench coats and riding boots as well:

Blouse: LOFT  Skirt: vintage Pendleton, thrifted
Boots: Born (similar)  Trench: Banana Republic (similar)

Nubby Studs

Last time I wore this skirt, I wore it with chambray.  This time around, I went with blush:

Given that the eyelet is sort of sweet:

And so is the trim on the skirt, I figured I'd toughen up the look with the addition of nubby orange studs:

Because nothing says tough like nubby studs:

P.S. Nubby Studs is probably going to be my new band name.  I have no idea what we'll sing about!

Wrinkles and Rhinestones

Linen is great for summer; so light... so airy... so wrinkly:

Seriously.  Those wrinkles are just from bending over to buckle my sandals.  That's ridiculous.

Still, it is a nice cool fabric and it looks good with rhinestones:

And, people expect linen to be wrinkled, so they're probably not talking about you behind your back.  Or at least not to say anything other than "man, wrinkles and rhinestones are a fly combination":

Skirt: thrifted (similar) Top: Nordstrom (similar)
Necklace: BaubleBar (similar)
Lipstick: MAC Ruby Woo  Sandals: Seychelles

Fly.

Pastels and Earth Tones

These colors probably shouldn't be paired together, but I did it anyway:

I mean, pastels and earth tones?  What was I thinking...

And yet, I swear this totally works:

Or not.  I'm not an expert on color combinations that make sense.  No, I'm better at those color combinations that make no sense at all.

Like pastels and earth tones together:

Pants: LOFT (similar)  Top: TJ Maxx (similar)
Cardigan: LOFT  Earrings: Modcloth, sold out (similar)
Shoes: FRYE (exact) (similar) (vegan option)

That's my specialty.

Leopard and Lace

This is the most basic of outfits:

The thing is, by this time of year any creativity I have in regards to my summer clothes is completely exhausted and I'm just waiting for it to be cold enough to layer.

So, today, it's just pants, a shirt and flats:

Top: Marshall's  Pants: LOFT  Shoes: Nine West

Basic.  But, not boring.  The pants add a bit of color, the lace top adds a bit of texture and the leopard flats add a bit of fun.  I like to think that this outfit is proof that even the most basic outfit doesn't have to be boring.

Or, another way to put it: when it doubt, wear leopard and lace.

Double Cream

Double cream is hard to photograph, y'all.  In the sun my outfit is completely blown out, but the shade is a bit dark:

And then, to compound matters, at some point I made this face:

I think that might be my listening face, but it looks like I'm mad as hell.  I wasn't, but good luck convincing my face of that!

Eventually I got it together (stopped listening?) and quit looking as though I wanted to throttle someone:

Skirt: thrifted vintage  Blouse: LOFT  Sandals: Seychelles

But still, double cream is hard; it makes photography hard.  And, apparently, it makes listening hard.

Same Dress, Different Vest

I like to wear this dress with vests:

Dress: Gap  Vest: Piperlime  Sandals: Seychelles  Necklace: LOFT

Mostly because the dress is racer back and although the only summer-wear we've been cautioned against at work are cut-offs and tube tops, I have my doubts about the professionalism of a racer back dress.  So, I layer it with vests.

Last time it was a flowing cream vest.  Today it is this olive vest:

Speaking of this olive vest, I was worried that it was too short for my long-ish torso, but it works better on me than I'd hoped.  It also looks good with my chunky LOFT necklace:

I love the combination of olive and turquoise. And angel wings:

Maybe Peach & Navy

I think this top is peach. Maybe:

It may be blush though.

Either way, it could probably stand to be paired with a bolder color than navy.  I did add a bit of color with the jewelry.  But then I went with the pale gold shoes; again, I think a colored shoe might have been more interesting.

I think I just don’t believe it’s spring yet so I’m sticking to my dark, winter neutrals.  Yes, it has been in the 70s here the past couple of days, but I know as soon as I pull out my spring/summer clothes, the temps will drop and it’ll start hailing.  Oregon weather loves to play mind games.

What about you, Reader Friends?  Is it spring in your wardrobe yet?
