A Variation on a Theme

I don't have anything like a capsule closet, but I've been thinking that maybe I should.  Because it seems like the only things I wear are navy blue, stripes, mustard and leopard.  Often all at once.  Today's outfit is just a variation on that theme:

But, I'd like to point out that I added cobalt.  So, that's something:

Okay, not really.  I'll just go ahead and admit that, yes, its an oft-repeated color scheme here at Fashion for Giants, but I just can't help myself.  I love navy and mustard together and I love leopard and stripes together so mustard leopard with navy stripes just makes all the sense in the world to me.

Mid-Week Musts: Tall Yoga Pants

If you're tall and you do yoga, you know how difficult it is to find yoga pants that are long enough.  Even if you're tall and you don't do yoga but like to wear yoga pants around the house in case you have to downward dog for dropped Doritos, you know it's hard.  Well, this week's mid-week musts list is here to help:

Top left: These are Victoria's Secret and I'm not sure what inseam they are, but my friend, who is also six feet tall, says they are more than long enough.

Top right: These are from Old Navy.  I have two pairs of these and can attest that their claim to a 36" inseam is definitely valid; they are plenty long.

Bottom Right: These pants are from Marika.  They're shorter than the rest at 34" but Marika makes a great workout pant.  I have a cropped pair and they're my favorite for Jazzercise.

Bottom Left: This last pair is from Tall Water Jeans and if you're truly tall, these are your yoga pants.  They have a 37.5" inseam.  Yes, that's right, 37.5 inches on a yoga pant.  Brilliant.

I also included a fun top, a pink mat (I'm partial to pink for my mats) and adorably weird (weirdly adorable?) shoes that are great for both Doritos-lounging and commuting to yoga class.

Literary Stylings: The Good Thief

The Good Thief, by Hannah Tinti:

I hadn't quite finished this book when I wrote my reminder post last week so I wasn't sure if it was going to be the one I based my outfit off of.  But I did finish in time and it really was quite good, so I did decide to wear an outfit inspired by it.

The book is about an orphan with a missing a hand and who gets adopted by a very interesting man named Benjamin.  The orphan, Ren, is introduced to a life of crime with his adopted father, and his father's cohort, Tom.  The book is essentially about their adventures, but also contains the central mystery of who Ren is and how he lost his hand, as a baby, before being abandoned at the orphanage.

There are a lot of great characters in the book, including the girls who work at the mousetrap factory.  These girls  all wear "blue dresses with big brown boots" and black stockings and it's their look that I based today's outfit off of:

The factory girls also wear shawls, but I went with a floral handkerchief-style scarf instead:

When the factory girls were introduced in the book, I thought they were rather horrid.  But, by the end of the book I didn't think so at all and I was happy to base my look off of their "uniform."

Winter Brights

The best part about wearing brights for winter is that you can wear them towards the end of winter and everyone will tell you that you look "spring-like" but you'll still be warm!  This dress is great for that:
