The Clash

Full disclosure.  I am not wearing this today.  I did not wear this yesterday.  I actually wore this last week before the rains came.  But, I forgot to post it so I'm doing that today because I'd hate for you all to miss my clashing shoes:

Top: LOFT  Skirt: thrifted vintage  Sandals: Cole Haan via DSW

Now, personally, I feel like poppy and magenta are complimentary colors but several of my co-workers informed me that not only did I not match, I didn't even "go" and my shoes in fact clashed with my skirt:

Nonsense, right?  Seriously, I think you'd hear fewer "but I don't get it" comments trying to explain geometry to first graders.

And maybe they're right and this look is clashing and not complimentary, but it's such a good clash, how could I resist?

I guess I just figure that if you're going to clash you should do so in the brightest, happiest colors you can.  Otherwise, you've confused your co-workers for nothing.  And we wouldn't want to do that, would we?

Happy Tuesday, All!

Ooh, I almost forgot!  Linking up (late) with Patti for Visible Monday because, well, of course. (ETA: Or not.  Apparently Visible Monday is on a break this week.  Oops!)

Fall Fashion with Emme Nation

Are you in Portland?  Are you ready for Fall?  Do you want to see me walk in a full-figured fall fashion show hosted by this woman?

For you heathens out there, this is Emme.  She was the first iconic full-figured supermodel and, as you can see, remains the same gorgeous, curvy woman.  Emme is the driving force behind EmmeNation, a movement to connect mind, body and spirit.

And, on October 2nd, Emme is coming to Portland!  She will be hosting a fashion show at the Macy's at Clackamas Town Center, featuring plus-sized fall fashion.  And after the show, there will be a meet-and-greet with Emme.  And shopping!  Fall shopping!  Hooray!  You can learn more about the event here.

So, if you're in Portland and you're ready for some fall fashion, come join me at the Clackamas Town Center Macy's at 6pm on October 2nd.  Seating is limited, so make sure you RSVP here.

I hope to see you there!

Frayed and Striped and Green

Guess what's frayed and striped and green all over?  That's right, this outfit:

Cardigan: thrifted vintage  Tank: LOFT   Skirt: thrifted & DIY   Boots: Born "Mabel"

This outfit is full of a bunch things I don't usually do.  Well, not a bunch.  Two.  This outfit contains two things I don't usually do.

The first thing I don't usually do is denim skirts:

I tend to avoid them because they make me look like a denim box.  Does this skirt make me look like a denim box?  Yes, but not as badly as most skirts do.  This is sort of Cute Denim Box as opposed to Boxy Denim Box from Boxy Hell.

The second thing I don't usually do is green:

I don't have a valid reason for avoiding green like I do for avoiding denim skirts, I just tend to gravitate more towards blue.  But, this is such a pretty, emerald green that I couldn't resist it.  I plan on wearing it a lot.  Or, at least until something blue catches my eye!

Happy Friday, All!

P.S. I was going to link to some frayed denim skirts, but it's probably just cheaper (and more fun!) to run to Goodwill, find a skirt that fits your waist and cut it to the length you want.  That's what I did!

Photo Negative

I wore this outfit the other day, when the rain first started:

Sweater: LOFT  Skirt: Macys  Boots: Sole Society "Romy"

And, in looking at the pictures, I realized that this skirt and this sweater look like negatives of each other:

I'd like to tell you that was my intention, but it was, in fact, just a happy accident.  The truth is it's not cold enough to wear "real" sweaters yet, so I'm wearing open-weave sweaters.

And blue boots:

I'm wearing blue boots.

Some of you have already seen these on Instagram; I posted them the day I actually wore them.  And, I actually tagged them wrong; they're not from Splendid, but rather Sole Society.  Oops.

Either way, I still love them.  I'm a sucker for a blue shoe, blue boots included.  And these make me happy:

How about you, Reader Friends?  Are you enjoying boot weather yet?

Happy Thursday, All!

Love Shark

I think been it’s pretty well-documented how much I love this thrifted shark tee:

Tee: Thrifted  Skirt: ASOS  Boots: Splendid

Or maybe I just yell how much I love it whenever anyone gives it the side-eye.  Does yelling count as documentation?  Probably not, or my life would be the most well-documented ever!

Yelling versus actual, legitimate documentation aside, the other day I showed my affection by pairing the tee with some “love” earrings:

Old Navy earrings

In addition to the earrings, I also paired the tee with a skirt quilted in a scalloped pattern:

Heh.  I just realized that this outfit has an unintentional under-the-sea theme what with the shark tee and the fish-scale like skirt.  I think unintentional under-the-sea themed outfits are best, don’t you?

The Big Maybe

For me, this outfit is a big maybe:

Cardigan: ModCloth  Pants: Kohls  Dress: Target  Shoes: Old Navy

I mean, it has all the elements I love.  It has leopard, it has mustard, it has pointy toes, and it has a vintage piece:

I think it's a sweater clip, but they're pins so who knows?

But, even with all that good stuff, I'm just not sure it's enough.  I suspect this problem is with the proportions.  I think the idea is there, but the dress is slightly too long.  Or, maybe the pants are slightly too short.  Or, maybe, just maybe, the shoes are slightly too flat.

I don't know which maybe is the culprit; perhaps the problem is that they all add up into one big maybe.  And that's too bad, because I actually really liked this outfit.  Being as it has all of the stuff I like in one place and all:

But, looking at the photos, I see it's just not quite right.  Instead of a yes, it's just a maybe.  Oh, well.  It happens.

What about you, Reader Friends?  Have you worn any maybes lately?

Happy Monday, All!

Feeling Like Fall in Territory Ahead

Some time back, I was contacted by Territory Ahead to select something from their fall line to review.  I found the perfect fall skirt but Oregon has been extra warm so far this September and I haven't had a chance to wear it yet.

But, today, today feels like fall.  And it feels like the perfect opportunity to wear the perfect fall skirt:

The print and the colors are all fabulously fall to me:

I mean, I like this sort of print in other colors, like an unexpected neon mix, but it feels most right to me in colors like these.

Today I paired the skirt with a denim tee and ankle boots, but I know this skirt will take me well into winter paired with a cozy sweater, tights and riding boots.

Top: Old Navy  Skirt: Territory Ahead  Boots: Nine West

In addition to the versatility of this skirt and the great print, I also have to say that I love the longer length.  It's right in my comfort zone.  Also adding to my comfort is the fact that it's not a true wrap skirt so there is no chance of the accidental flash of one's undercarriage.

If you want a cute, comfortable, non-undercarriage-flashing skirt of your own, I recommend Territory Ahead; you can find this particular skirt here.

Happy Thursday, All!

Bright and Paisley

Although I generally prefer my paisley in more subdued tones, especially for fall, I can't resist this bright paisley dress:

Especially because I thrifted it for a mere $7 (maybe $8).  I mean, I'd be a fool to pass that up, right?

It's just so bright.  And happy!  And red.  I don't wear a lot of red (I have exactly two red dresses) but I love me some red paisley.  The red is the perfect background for the amoeba-like shapes of the paisley.

Dress, Belt, Shoes - all thrifted

Red.  Amoebas.  Thrifted.  Seriously, can a dress get any better?

Hot Pink & Houndstooth

There is something about this navy houndstooth skirt that makes me want to pair it with the brightest brights.  Last time it was chartreuse.  This time, it's hot pink:

And I do mean hot pink.  It's basically neon in the right light:

But, it's also silk and it was thrifted and so was the skirt, so, aside from the shoes, this outfit cost me next to nothing.  Pretty good for next to nothing, huh?

Happy Tuesday, All!

Wearing My Heart on My Sleeve

Well, it's not my heart, it's a lot of hearts and I'm wearing them on both sleeves:

Shirt: Gap  Skirt & Sandals: Thrifted

The big news there is that I'm wearing sleeves.  It's funny, because in spring when the weather gets to 75, I'm breaking out the sundresses and sleeveless tops.  But, in fall, when the weather gets to 75, I break out the button-downs and start layering.

So, why this shirt, other than the fact that the temperature dropped below 80?  Well, today's challenge pattern is hearts so I figured this heart-print blouse was both seasonally-appropriate and challenge-appropriate.

Although, Friend Ferge says the shapes look more like the letter L than like a heart but I told her L was for love so it's basically the same thing:

Shirt: Gap   Earrings: Made by my sister

Right?  Right. (By the way, I love that I can always count on you all for agreeing with my hare-brained logic.)

In addition to my abstract heart/L print blouse, I also wore a denim skirt and my Rieker huaraches:

And it was the perfect outfit for our momentarily fall-like weather before it climbs back into the 90s.  Ugh.

Happy Wednesday, All!

Black, Blue and Bikes

Today's post is all about black, blue and bikes.  Not the bikes you ride, the bikes you wear:

Or, more specifically, the bikes you wear and laugh like a loon in:

The laugh-inducing bikes I wore because the challenge print for today was a conversational print and I think the bikes are a good conversational piece. Especially since I ride a bike and all.

The black skirt and blue shirt I wore because I thought they'd be a nice, simple background for the bike scarf:

And they were.  Unfortunately, for an outfit dedicated to bike riding, this one wasn't very good to ride in.  The skirt just didn't quite have enough give so that attempting to get on my bike was rather pathetic.  Pedaling went okay, but getting up there was not pretty.  At all.

Which is too bad because I otherwise really like this skirt.  It's the perfect length for me:

Scarf: ModCloth  Tee: LOFT  Skirt: Thrifted  Sandals: Steve Madden

And it was thrifted so, you  know, win-win.

Happy Tuesday, All!
