Wuv. Twue Wuv.

I'm not a big fan of Valentine's Day.  I mean, I don't dislike it, but if it were removed from the calendar, I'd be okay with that.  In part because I don't have any truly momentous Valentine's Day memories.  My best Valentine's Day memories are creating those hearts in elementary school with the squares of tissue paper twisted around a pencil end.  You remember those?  Those are great.

But, I digress.

Because I'm not that big on Valentine's Day, I don't bother wearing hearts or red or pink or red and pink hearts.  But, this year, I made an effort:

Yes, that's right, I'm wearing red.  And a heart.  And my earring actually says "Love."  All this effort, just for you, Reader Friends:

You're welcome.

Happy Valentine's Day, All!  Have a wonderful long weekend!

My "Love" earrings are Old Navy too, but I don't see them online.

Pinned It and Did It: Buffalo Plaid

Ever since I thrifted my trusty buffalo plaid shirt I've been Pinning ways to wear it.  The other day, I pinned this:

And then, I wore this:

Plaid: thrifted (similar)  Cardigan: Old Navy  Jeans: Old Navy  Boots: thrifted (similar)

I figured for my first Pinned It and Did It Challenge after my break I should take it easy and do something I knew for sure I could do.

Nailed it.

Happy Thursday, All!

Mid-Week Musts: The Valentine's Edition

Today's mid-week musts are all about Valentine's Day:

Love is in the Air

The Dress: From a new-to-me brand, Poppy & Bloom.  They make retro-inspired dresses for plus-sized gals and they do it beautifully
The Scarf: Plaid and hearts and general adorableness
The Earrings: Cute without being cutesy
The Tights: These may be cutesy but I <3 them anyway (see what I did there?)
The Lipstick: My go-to red lip; M.A.C Viva Glam I

Okay, you caught me.  Today's must-read is a book that has nothing to do with Valentine's Day, but it has "love" in the title so, you know, that's something:

And really, this is a great book.  It is weird and daring and absolutely delightful. I actually read it several years ago and am re-reading now and I highly recommend it to those of you who like your literature a little strange.

Happy Wednesday, All!

Stripes and Layers

Although I hate being cold, I have to admit that the winter weather provides a great opportunity to work on my layering.  I like layering because it keeps me warm, but I also like that it flexes my creative muscles in terms of what I layer and how.

Today's layers are pretty basic because I'm relying on the different silhouettes to add interest.  The sleeveless vest over the long-sleeve tee and the longer midi skirt are more interesting than long-sleeve over long-sleeve where the bottom of the outfit is all the same length.  I added to the interest by choosing a striped tee, adding a bit of color with the cowl and the watch, and adding leather and studs to the mix with the boots and the belt.  The decision to leave the bottom of the vest/dress open adds movement to the look which, once again, makes it more visually interesting.

In addition to warmth and creativity, layering also allows me to ignore any body flattery rules I may occasionally pay attention to.  I mean, it's the perfect opportunity to yell "I don't have to have a waist, I'm warm!" at anyone who eyeballs your midsection suspiciously.  Then you can laugh like a fool:

Who doesn't like laughing like a fool?  Nobody, that's who.

Happy Tuesday, All!

Snow Birds

It recently snowed a LOT here in Oregon.  As I've mentioned before, we don't get much snow, so it's kind of a big deal.  And this time was an even bigger deal as we got up to a foot of snow in some places!  In fact, we got so much snow that they not only closed the schools, they closed the state offices.

I, myself, left work early on Thursday, didn't bother even trying to make it in on Friday and Saturday I woke up to this:

I don't know why, but Saturday morning our trees were filled with birds.  With robins.  Fat, delightful, very cold robins:

Aren't they just too cute for words?!!

I felt horrible for them though; it was so cold.  I didn't know how to warm them up so I settled for clearing a space on the patio and putting down some raw pumpkin seeds and some millet.  They ate a bit and then a few hours later, they were all gone.

It was very strange having 60+ robins in our trees, but I am hopeful they made it someplace warm.

xoxo,
