No Nonsense Denim Leggings

I'm wearing white today:

And yes, it's after Labor Day.

The thing is, I received these white denim leggings from No Nonsense, and I like them too much to relegate them to summer wear only.  They are extremely comfortable, and are a surprisingly good length, even after washing.  I got them in XL and they fit snugly, without being too tight.  I will say though, that they are probably better suited for an "apple" shape than someone with a "curvier" shape; there is a bit of a gap in the waist for me.

So, yes, I'm wearing white after Labor Day:

Pendant: v. old Old Navy (similar)  Vest: Nordstrom (similar)  Shoes: Via Spiga (similar)

Thank goodness there are no rules against that sort of thing, right?

A Whole Lotta Plum

Today's outfit features a whole lotta plum:

And a tiny bit of turquoise.

Oh, I could have scared up some plum earrings and gone head-to-toe plum, but, as we all know, when in doubt, I choose turquoise:

Blouse & Pant: LOFT
Earrings: gifted (similar)  Shoes: Franco Sarto

It's just how I roll.

Because They Go With Everything

I'm wearing those blue pants again:

Why?  Well, mostly because they're blue, but also because I think they really might truly go with everything.

I mean, I've worn them with peach, with a dark floral print and today with whatever color this is.

Scarf: thrifted silk (similar)  Sweater: LOFT (similar)
Pants: Gap (similar)  Shoes: v. old Corso Como (similar)

And I added some additional color with the scarf:

I'm telling you, Folks.  Blue pants.  Because they go with everything.

Aubergine and Ice

Ice blue, that is:

Now, we did have actual ice, and snow, over the weekend, but today is warmer.  Not actually warm, mind you, which is why I'm back in tights, but warmer for sure:

Warm enough for me to at least make the effort to incorporate a spring-y color like this ice blue into my outfit:

Even though it's April, we haven't had much in the way of spring weather here yet in Pittsburgh so I'm defaulting to my darker winter colors.  I mean, I want to wear pretty spring things but did I mention that it snowed on Friday?

Still, today's mix of aubergine and ice blue felt like a successful way to incorporate more spring-like colors into my still winter-y wardrobe:

Jacket: Gap (similar)  Blouse: LOFT (similar)
Skirt: Lands' End (similar) Boots: Franco Sarto "Eminent"

What about you, Reader Friends?  Are you well into spring or are you still mixing spring and winter pieces?

Welcome to March

So, my co-worker, a native Pittsburgher and overwhelming optimist, assures me that Spring is almost here and it's going to be nice all week next week.  I am, understandably, I think, skeptical.  Why?  Because the past two days, it's been freezing and alternating between rain and snow.

Basically, I'm still wearing as many layers in March as I was in December and January:

Heck, maybe even more.

The good news is that I rather like this combination of pieces:

The bad news is that I'm getting real tired of the wind messing up my perfect pleats:

Stupid wind.

So, yeah, welcome to March:

The Longline Vest

I love plum with navy.  (Okay, fine, I love everything with navy).  But, I wanted an extra layer because, well, it's cold.  So, I added this longline vest:

I think the ash gray offsets the jewel tones of the pants and sweater nicely:

But, mostly, I just have a thing for longline vests this season.  They'll never fully replace my beloved sweater vests in my heart, but they're definitely a welcome addition to my wardrobe.

They just make layering so easy:

Vest: Topshop via Nordstrom (sold out, similar here)  Sweater: Gap
Pants: Gap  Watch: gifted Fossil Q Grant  Shoes: Bettye Bettye Muller (similar)

And for my money, easy is good. Especially in winter when I want to call in just because it's cold.

All in the Family

This look isn't quite monochromatic, but all of the pieces are from the same color family:

The skirt is from Land's End and the cardigan is from Target.  And, to my eye, they look so perfect together, I can't believe I haven't worn this outfit before.

The skirts' more subtle pattern even compliments the the cardigan's bolder houndstooth:

As much as I like combining contrasting colors, this outfit makes me understand that (nearly) monochromatic looks can have just as much impact:

Cardigan: Target (similar) (similar)  Blouse: LOFT (similar)
Skirt: Land's End (similar)  Boots: Born Crown "Sosie" (similar)

More Mustard

I believe I need more mustard in my life.  Or, at least more pieces of mustard clothing.  More pieces like this vintage sweater vest:

Why more mustard?  Because it goes with everything, of course.  Take this outfit for example; I paired mustard with burgundy and navy.

And it works:

You want to know why?  Because mustard goes with everything.

Or, at the very least, it goes with burgundy and navy:

Vest: vintage thrifted  Top: Banana Republic (similar)
Pants: Gap  Boots: Born Crown "Sosie" (similar)

But, I'm pretty sure it really does go with everything else as well.  And, if I had more mustard in my closet, I could work to prove that hypothesis thereby making the world safe for mustard lovers everywhere.  Or, something like that.

Happy Friday, All!

Bright Tights

Sometimes I like to wear super-bright tights:

Even if only a sliver of the tights is visible, like in this outfit, it makes me happy to know that I have neon legs.

Because, with hot pink tights like these, a sliver is all you really need:

Just enough to make you happy.

I mean, sure, they also serve the purpose of picking up some pink in my sweater and therefore tying everything together:

Sweater: v. old Gap (similar)  Skirt: Land's End (similar)
Tights: HUE (similar)  Boots: Born Crown "Sosie" (similar)

But, I think we all know that I'm really just wearing them because they make me smile.

Lions and Leggings and Stripes, Oh My!

One of the hardest things about moving to a colder climate, for me, has been maintaining my individual sense of style while still keeping warm.  Because, as much as I love skirts and dresses and tights, sometimes it's so darned cold that I just want to wear leggings.

Like today:

But, because I'm me, I'm not just wearing leggings.  I'm wearing lions and leggings and stripes (oh my!):

Because, the fact of the matter is, that adding lions and the phrase "oh my" makes everything better:

Stripes: Old Navy (similar)  Jacket: LOFT (similar)  Cowl: gifted (similar)
Brooch: thrifted vintage (exact)  Leggings: metrostyle  Boots: Born Crown (similar)

Try it, you'll see.

Feeling Plummy

I was feeling rather plummy the other day:

And yes, it's too cold for open-toed shoes.  But, as I'm sure you know, when you're feeling plummy, that feeling doesn't end at your feet.

So, of course I had to pair my plum pants with plum shoes:

I also added a sweater that doesn't match, but goes really really well:

And then there's the scarf; I don't think it contains the color of the pants or the sweater, but it still serves to tie the two together:

Pants: LOFT  Sweater: LOFT
Scarf: sister gifted (similar)  Shoes: Franco Sarto (similar)

Prints are just the best for that, aren't they?
