Knotted

I've never really been successful in my attempts to knot my belts in a stylish, cute manner.  Knowing when I'm beat, I decided to try a pre-knotted belt:

And I'm so glad I did.  Now I don't have to worry about the knot laying correctly or the belt flipping up.  This belt lays perfectly:

And just happens to pair wonderfully with my sandals:

Top: Nordstrom (similar)  Skirt: thrifted
Belt: LOFT (similar below)  Sandals: Kork-Ease (similar)

I'm not a big advocate of matchy-matchy accessorizing, but even I have to admit that this belt and these sandals look fantastic together:

And not too shabby with the skirt either.

Happy Monday, All!

Making Do

I don't own a denim jacket for the same reasons I didn't own a denim skirt before this one.  Because between the denim and my broad shoulders, I end up looking like a denim box.  And I'm usually okay with the decision not to look like a denim box.  But, once every two years or so, I end up wishing that I had a denim jacket because I am convinced it would be the perfect finishing piece for whatever I'm wearing.

This biennium, it was this outfit:

I don't know why, but this outfit just cried out for some denim.  I think it's the tiger.  Doesn't this face say "top me with denim" to you?

Yeah, it does to me too.

But, as you can see, I don't own a denim jacket so I had to make do with a denim shirt:

Tee: Bobeau (similar)   Skirt: Leith   Shirt: Caslon (similar)  Shoes: Madden Girl (similar, similar)

I wore it open and wondered if anyone would point out that it was not a jacket and therefore my jacket-like utilization was not okay:

And you know what?  No one did.  Possibly because they have better things to do but most likely because making do with a denim shirt works just fine.

A Raging Case of The I-Have-Nothing-To-Wears

Here is the dilemma, Reader Friends.  It is gorgeous and sunny here in Oregon (at the moment) but it is not warm.  So, I'm trying to find clothes that fit with the sunnier weather without freezing to death.  Turns out that I don't have a lot of options that meet that criteria, so I ended up in my bird button-down layered under a short-sleeve sweater:

Top: Nordstrom  Sweater: Thrifted   Jeans: Banana Republic  Flats: Nordstrom Rack

Yes, I did wear almost this exact same outfit at almost this exact same time last year.  But, only almost.  I did actually change it up a little bit.  For example, this time, instead of wearing neon studs, I'm wearing shell feathers:

I also changed up the bottom of my look, this time going with ankle zip skinnies and flats instead of flares and wedges:

I know, I know, it's not much of a difference, but I'm not kidding when I say I have a limited amount of clothing that is both spring-like and warm.  In fact, I think this is probably my toughest transitional period.  I'm tired of my drab winter clothes, but it's still too cold to pull out proper spring clothes, resulting in a raging case of The I-Have-Nothing-To-Wears.

What about you, Reader Friends?  How do you handle your winter-to-spring transition?

Happy Friday, All!

Days 9 and 10: Black Pleats

I finished my Perfect 10 Remix Challenge with two outfits featuring my black pleated skirt.

Day 9:

For Day 9, I paired my pleated skirt (thrifted, similar) with my striped tee (Old Navy).  It was a bit cool on the ride in so I also added my floral jacket (thrifted).  The shoes are, of course, my Rieker huaraches (thrifted, exact) and I added my red apple pendant (c/o The Monet Chronicles, similar) so I’d still have some interest once the jacket came off.

Day 10:

For my final outfit, I wore a simple combination of the skirt and a sleeveless chambray shirt (Caslon via Nordstrom), again with the Rieker shoes.

But, I also added my lovely bird huddle scarf because I'm from Oregon and I will be putting a bird on it, thank-you-very-much.

And, with that, I am done with the Perfect 10 Remix.  Thank you to Callie for creating this challenge and to all of you for reading along and pretending you’re not tired of huaraches and stripes.   Heh, Huaraches and Stripes sounds like a terrible buddy comedy with a hard-bitten detective, Huaraches, who semi-retired to Thailand and his Bengal tiger partner, Stripes.  Or, it’s my next band name.

Happy Friday, All!

Day 7: Alien Fox & Miss Sassypants

So, I think this is actually Day 8’s outfit, but I didn’t wear anything other than work-around-home clothes on Day 7 so we’re calling this Day 7:

Jeans: Old Navy   Top: Caslon via Nordstrom  Shoes: Rieker

It is also the outfit I wore to see my blogger friend Rinda, of Miss Sassypants:

She was in town for work but we got to spend a few hours eating and shopping and talking and laughing.  And you guys?  She is amazing.  She is gorgeous, funny, willing to do the running man in public, super talented and believes there is no merit to high-waist short-shorts.  So, she's, you know, basically a genius.

I had a ton of fun shopping with Rinda, and one of the stores we stopped in was a packed-to-the-brim vintage shop that had a lot of crazy amazing stuff.  I especially liked a lot of their brooches but I was completely enamored with this one:

I call it my alien fox brooch but I guess it could just be a "stylized fox" brooch.  Nah, that's boring.  It's an alien fox brooch commissioned by an alien visitor to our planet to commemorate their favorite pet (alien) fox.  Yes, I have decided.

Happy Wednesday, All!

Day 4: Yesterday’s Dress

For Day 4 of the Perfect 10 Remix Challenge, I’m re-wearing yesterday’s dress.  As a skirt:

I layered the dress (Bar III via Macys) under a sleeveless chambray shirt (Caslon via Nordstrom).  I added my Rieker shoes (thrifted, exact), some studded cuffs (Nordstrom) and finished the look with some delightfully shiny earrings (Robert Rose via Nordstrom).

Robert Rose "Fan-Glam" Earrings

I feel like the chambray shirt, the shoes and the cuffs have a dressed down, sort of tough vibe and that the rhinestone earrings are a fun juxtaposition.

Happy Friday, Everyone!

Birdie Awesomeness

As an Oregonian, I am, of course, unable to resist anything that has a bird on it.  So this shirt?

Yeah, this shirt was destined to be mine.  Not only does it have birds on it, but it fits my long arms even though it’s not offered in “Tall”.  Those two qualities alone are reason enough to love this shirt.  But then you add the fact that it looks adorable layered under my apricot sweater and it is birdie awesomeness at its best.

In addition to the awesome bird button-down (Caslon via Nordstrom) and the apricot sweater (Worthington via Goodwill), I also wore flared jeans (Gap), camel wedges (Corso Como via Piperlime) and neon studs (Kate Spade NY via Nordstrom).

Friend Ferge thinks the neon studs don’t make sense with this look.  She is wrong.

Happy Thursday, All!

Double Denim and Rose Gold

The weather is supposed to warm up to 44 degrees today so I thought I’d give denim another shot.  A double dose this time, with some rose gold:

As of this writing it is still only 34 degrees and I am cold.  Because denim is cold.  I don’t know how cowboys do it.  But, hopefully for the ride home my combination of a denim shirt (Caslon via Nordstrom), polka dot skinnies (Wit & Wisdom via Nordstrom), rose gold sweater (Remain via Nordstrom) and boots (Enzo Angolini “Saylem” via Nordstrom) will be warm enough.  It certainly wasn’t this morning.

Heh.  I just realized that everything in this outfit is from Nordstrom.  Well, everything except the earrings:

They are 80s cloisonné and are from my mom.  Thanks, Mom!
