Feathered

This entire outfit was just an excuse to wear this scarf:

I just love the feather print:

It's vintage silk chiffon and I found it for two dollars in a tiny little thrift store in Oregon.

I also adore the color and how well it pairs with my blue shirt and black jeans:

Jeans: Old Navy Rockstar  Top: LOFT
Scarf: vintage (similar)  Belt: vintage  Sandals: Jeffrey Campbell (similar)

And, best of all, it allows me to wear a scarf even though it's still nearly 80 out here in Pittsburgh.  Hooray for fall!

Happy Friday, All!

Bird is the Word

I’m actually surprised it took me as long as it did to put this outfit together:

I mean, really, what goes better together than birds and feathers?  Nothing, right?  Right.  So, yes, today I paired birds and feathers:

My dress (vintage, thrifted) provides the feather-print in this combo and the birds come from my ridiculously awesome scarf:

Those crazy birds.  What are they doing?!  I don't know, but I do know that I love this scarf and that I love it paired with this dress.  In addition to the birds and the feathers, I also wore a red belt (thrifted), ankle-strap flats (Hive & Honey via Piperlime) and a cuff (thrifted).

Because everything but the shoes is thrifted, I’m linked up to Callie’s Thrifter Thursday Link Party.  Are you a thrifty blogger?  If so, come by Coffee and Cardigans and join the fun.

And have a fabulous Thursday, Everyone!

Oh, the hair.  I forgot.  I got my hair colored yesterday and my stylist also blew it out to better see the color.  As you may have noticed, I never wear my hair straight and don’t think I’ll keep this up for long (seriously, if it’s still straight tomorrow, it’ll be a Festivus Miracle).  It just doesn’t feel like me.  Happily though, my outfit feels 100% me, so I was able to smile through the pain.

Feathery Goodness

I don’t wear this dress often enough:

Although it (well, I) didn’t photograph at all well today, it really is quite flattering.  Last time I wore it with the obvious black accents.  This time I wanted to switch it up and paired the dress (vintage, thrifted) with a snake print skinny belt (Target?), taupe wedges (Bamboo via TJ Maxx), my new favorite bangle and chunky red necklace (gifted – thanks, Ma!).

I think I like this iteration better than the last time I wore it.  Although, last time did include an owl belt, and that’s saying something, today’s outfit just seems more interesting to me somehow.  I can’t quite put my finger on what it is, but think it might be the mismatched but still complimentary accessories.  They make what is a fairly prim and proper dress into something different.  Either that or I’m not getting enough sleep.  One of the two.

Today’s Takeaway?  Get plenty of sleep – otherwise it can be difficult to judge the effectiveness of your accessories.

Happy Wednesday, Everyone!

Birthday Owl

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ROSEY!!!!

This is my older sister Rosey:

Today is her birthday and she is, hands-down the best big sister ever.  And yes, I will fight anyone who says differently.   She is only a year and a half older than me and we are as close in spirit as we are in age.  Not only did she teach me how to eat watermelon (off the floor, no less), she taught me how to properly rock an Afro:

I think those are candy cigarettes in my hand.  Probably.

I'm still working on the Afro and I usually don't eat while sitting on the floor, but I still value those lessons and everything else my sister has taught me in our more than 30 years together.

Happy Birthday, Rosey!!!  I love you!!!!

In other news, I'm dressed like an owl today:

I mentioned yesterday that I have a maybe slight, maybe more-than-slight, obsession with day dresses and this dress is one of the reasons why.  I absolutely adore the feather print and like to think the shape is pretty flattering on me.  Like many of my favorite day dresses, this one is vintage which I think makes it all the better.  And, I thrifted it for about $7.00, so really there is no downside.  I paired it with my owl belt (via Ross) and a similarly-toned metal cuff (thrifted).  I chose these shoes (Nine West via Nordstrom) because they are fairly modern which I hope kept this look from being too costume-y (owl belt aside).

Once again, it's my sister's birthday (hooray!!!) and I'm dressed like an owl.  That is all.
