Deepest, Darkest Jungle

I love the black background on this tropical print jacket.  It reminds me of the deepest, darkest jungle:

And it’s more “appropriate” for winter than a brighter tropical print might be.

I also love the Karina dress (Marisa, c/o Karina Dresses) that I paired it with.  This dress has been a closet workhorse since I received it a couple of years ago.  It’s held its shape beautifully and is so easy to layer so it can be worn year round.  In addition to the jacket (vintage, gifted) and the dress, I also wore tights (Spanx via Nordstrom) and boots (Gap).  I also added coral statement necklace (via Piperlime) to complement the colors on the jacket.

Happy Thursday, All!

Shop the Look:
Similar jacket (And by similar I mean, vintage tropical print with a black background)
Similar Karina dress (It doesn’t look like the Marisa is currently available, but I strongly recommend the Audrey for its similar cut).
Similar boots
Similar necklace

Double Denim Rides Again

Get it?  Because I’m in double denim and a riding jacket.  You’re welcome.

Corny puns aside, I feel like a cattle baron’s widow in this outfit.  Like my husband was killed by outlaws and I have to manage our ranch and our 30,000 head of cattle myself.  This is what I’d wear in Abilene to negotiate a selling price for this year’s cattle:

Because, really, nothing says “shrewd negotiator” like a denim shirt (Caslon via Nordstrom) and denim skirt (thrifted) paired with a riding jacket (Ralph Lauren, thrifted).  I also added a studded belt (Michael Michael Kors via Nordstrom), goldenrod tights (Nordstrom), riding boots (Born Crown “Sosie” via Nordstrom), garnet-and-cameo earrings & an equestrian scarf (Echo, thrifted).

Happy Tuesday, Everyone!

The Hunchback of Santa Fe

I love the colors on this jacket, and I adore the print, but it makes me feel like the Hunchback of Santa Fe:

And that, I imagine, is why I’ve never worn it, even though it’s been in my closet for at least a year.  I’ve attempted to wear it several times, but it’s never been quite right.  And today is no exception.  It’s just not quite right.  I like the colors of the jacket (thrifted) with the color of the blouse (Nordstrom).  And I like the skinny jeans (Gap) with the platform sandals (MRKT via DSW).  And I like the red-orange necklace with the blouse and the jacket.  But, I don’t like the jacket.  The fit really just isn’t right; it gives me hunchy, bunchy shoulders and my shoulders don’t like that at all.

So, it’s gone.  I’m actually going to give it to a co-worker who saw me in it today and liked it (yes, even on me).

I think we can consider this progress.  Sure, I still have too many black skirts, but I no longer have an ill-fitting, multicolored jacket or a bunch of drop-waist skirts.  So, sure, yes, let’s call it progress.*

Happy Tuesday, All!

* I will be doing a post on my progress (or whatever) fairly soon (hopefully), so stay tuned (please).

Ladies Who Lunch, and Mix Patterns, in Funky Town

This outfit felt a little “ladies who lunch” to me.  Well, a little “ladies who lunch and mix patterns”:

Which I’m pretty sure isn’t a thing but maybe should be because it’s kind of an amusing concept.  I like the idea of taking a rather serious piece, such as this silk-lined checkered jacket (vintage, thrifted with Kelsey) and pairing it with a semi-serious piece such as this polka dot bow blouse (Old Navy) because together, they’re a little less serious, a little more funky.

I also wore my mauve skirt (vintage, thrifted), black tights (Spanx) and black wedge booties (Nine West “Peekaboo” via Piperlime).  Again, the skirt could be a little staid, but the tights and booties help steer the outfit towards Funky Town.  Even if it just stops for a fill up and some beef jerky at the Funky Town Gas n’ Save.

What about you, Dear Readers?  Do you like to lunch in Funky Town or do you live there year round?

Happy Wednesday, All!
