A Lot of Culottes

Just as Jessica Day rocks a lot of polka dots, I rock a lot of culottes:

Top: LOFT  Belt & Culottes: vintage, thrifted  Shoes: Madden Girl

These are my current favorites:

If I had my way, I'd wear culottes every day.  Every day, People.  It's that serious.  In fact, I had to be talked out of some blue satin culottes the other day.  And, to be honest, I'm not sure I have been talked out of them.  It's not that I need blue satin culottes, there probably isn't anyone that needs blue satin culottes, it's just that I love them.

And I love these:

I found them  at Goodwill the other day and practically begged them to fit over my hips.  Happily, they complied and we've been together ever since.  It's basically a match made in heaven.  They treat me right by fitting, having pockets and making all my culotte dreams come true.  And I treat them right by pairing them with stripes and lace up wedges:

Perfection.  Outfits like this are the exact reason I rock a lot of culottes.

Happy Monday, All!

Stripes and Mia-Approved Pockets

My dress today has stripes and what I believe would be Mia-approved pockets:

This pose is soooo smarmy; it makes me laugh.

Blogger friend Mia wrote that she used to use pocket size as criteria for buying clothes.  If the pockets were big enough to hold a book, it was meant to be hers.  I’m pretty sure my pockets today are big enough to hold a book.  Maybe not a trade paperback, but a couple of Harlequin Romances for sure.

Not that I’d ever put books in these pockets.  When I my hips found out I was even just writing about it, they started preparing Molotov cocktails.  They like to make it very, very clear that they won’t accept any added bulk in their region; they’d secede before they let that happen.  And, of course, my thighs are always up for a revolution so they lent my hips some matches.

Even if I don’t use the pockets for books, I still think this is a pretty great dress.  It’s been on the blog a couple of times before, but not at all this summer.  So, I figured I’d get in a post while it was still summer.  The dress is vintage Raoul (thrifted) and I paired it with an embroidered belt (Target) and platform sandals (Franco Sarto via Nordstrom Rack).  If yesterday’s outfit was a bit 80s, today’s feels a bit 70s to me; like I’m applying for the position of art teacher at that aggressively feminist all-girls summer camp I ‘worked’ at earlier this summer.  I love that imaginary camp.

And I love this dress.

Mustard and Plaid

I like my plaid like I like my hot dogs; with lots o’ mustard:

Not that the plaid itself has lots of mustard.  It doesn’t; it only has a thin yellow line, but I took that thin yellow line and ran with it.  As I do.

I paired the not-much-mustard plaid skirt (thrifted) with a mustard cashmere sweater (men’s, thrifted) and mustard tights (Hue via Macys).  I added riding boots (Born Crown “Sosie” via Nordstrom), a thin belt (Gap) and a blue, vintage cameo.  The cameo is inscribed on the back “Dick Puckett 1958” and I got it at a garage sale for five dollars, I think.  I wore it because I thought it helped to tie the sweater and skirt together a bit more; and also because it’s awesome.

Also awesome?  The fact that Thursday’s are for Thrifters and Meagan over at Spunky Chateau is continuing her link party.  Once again, much of my outfit is thrifted (or garage-saled) so I’m definitely linking up.

Happy Thursday, All!

Another Day, Another Day Dress

Having come late, summer seems to be lingering here in the Pacific Northwest.  We had a little rain but for the past week it’s been in the low to mid-80s.  Not that I’m complaining; the warm, but not hot, weather is perfect for my collection of day dresses.  Like this one:

Day dresses are the best.  They’re easy (possibly lazy, but whatever), they fit my broad shoulders, they don’t aggravate my thighs, they often have pockets (pockets!) and they’re easy to ride my bike in.  I love them.  Today I paired a day dress (Karin Stevens, thrifted) with platform sandals (MRKT via DSW), a thin belt (Gap), a watch, a bracelet and pink drop earrings.

Why pink earrings?  Because I wanted to.  Or, if you prefer, because they match my pink toenails and therefore because they help to bookend my outfit.  But, really, it was just because I wanted to.

Today’s Takeaway?  You can make up any reason you’d like for wearing what you do, but the best reason is because you want to.

Happy Thursday, Everyone!

P.S. I know some of you asked about the collar on yesterday’s dress.  The dress buttons up the left-side of the chest at an angle.  I don’t button it all the way up and I fold the extra fabric down which creates the sort of v-neck-on-an-angle you saw.
