Star Child

I'm dressed like a child today.  A giant child with mutinous thighs, but a child all the same:

Tee: Gap  Jeans: Old Navy  Boots: Nine West

I think it might be the red pants.  There is something, in my mind, inherently childlike about brightly colored pants.  Or, perhaps I just feel like a child because I'm pretty sure I would have rocked the hell out of this look as a child.

I don't think pairing my bright red jeans with a star print tee helped matters much either:

But, I had to wear this tee.  Because today's pattern for the Behind the Leopard Glasses Daily Pattern Challenge is stars and this is the only star print item I own.  

And I had to pair it with these earrings because when else are you going to wear star earrings if not with your star tee and your kinder pants?

But the pants.  Did I have to wear these pants?  Well, no, I guess not.  But, school started this week and I think the abundance of small children in their bright pants influenced this look.  Yes, that it.  It's the children's fault.

The children made me do it.

Pro Tip: When in doubt, blame the children.

So Chevron, It's Right

So, Emma, from Behind the Leopard Glasses is having the best month-long challenge and link party ever.  It's all about prints and patterns!  The idea is to wear a different pattern every day (you can see the challenge calendar on her site).  I missed the first couple of days due to lack of appropriate patterns and general laziness, but today, today I'm participating.

The featured pattern for today is chevron.  As it turns out, I don't have a lot of chevron in my closet, but I was determined to participate in this fun challenge and after a bit of scrounging around I found this top:

It's technically lace, but it has a few lines of chevron running through there.


In addition to being lace, the top is also sleeveless so, because our mornings are a bit chillier now, I paired it with my olive cardigan:

At first I wasn't sure about the combination of coral, olive and navy, but I figured that coral and navy look good together and olive is basically a neutral so it'd be fine.

See?  That color combination totes makes sense.


Also, I realize that in all of the above pictures, my left earring is turned around so it looks like I'm just wearing gold earrings.  I'm not.  I'm actually wearing even more color:

Are any of those colors in my outfit?  Of course not!  But I wore the earrings anyway.  Because they go.


So, there you have it.  Chevron lace, a possibly weird color combination and non-matching, but totally-going earrings:

All part of an outfit that's so wrong, it's right.

Dark Red and Light Blue

Not too long ago, Angie wrote about the combination of dark red and light blue.  I was intrigued because they aren't two colors that I would ever put together.  But, I liked the idea of the combination and wanted to see if I could make it work for me.

So, instead of adding black accessories to this vintage dress, I added dark red:

And it turns out that that Angie knows what she's talking about because I loved this combination.  It was unexpected but perfect.


My blue is a bit of a darker blue than Angie shows in her ensemble, but I think the cornflower still works with the dark red:

And I think that's the point of trying a recommended look or color combination; someone makes the suggestion, but you make it your own.

In the Pink

I usually tend to avoid pastels, but this week I've worn what is essentially baby blue, pastel peach and now pale pink:

I don't know why I'm avoiding my usual bright colors; but I can't say that I dislike it.

This outfit, especially, is one of my favorites.  The silhouette, in spite of the more fitted skirt, is flattering as heck:

Leopard and Lace

This is the most basic of outfits:

The thing is, by this time of year any creativity I have in regards to my summer clothes is completely exhausted and I'm just waiting for it to be cold enough to layer.

So, today, it's just pants, a shirt and flats:

Top: Marshall's  Pants: LOFT  Shoes: Nine West

Basic.  But, not boring.  The pants add a bit of color, the lace top adds a bit of texture and the leopard flats add a bit of fun.  I like to think that this outfit is proof that even the most basic outfit doesn't have to be boring.

Or, another way to put it: when it doubt, wear leopard and lace.
