When in Doubt, Turquoise

So, I'm wearing neutrals today:

Well, mostly.  I am wearing some color, courtesy of my turquoise earrings:

Why turquoise?  Because I couldn't figure out which earrings to wear until I remembered the old saying "When in doubt, turquoise."

Blouse: LOFT (exact w/o the print)  Earrings: gifted (similar)
Skirt: thrifted vintage (similar) (similar)  Sandals: White Mountain (similar flat) (heeled)

No, really, that's a true saying.

Okay, it's probably not, but it should be.

Going Wide

As I mentioned on my post over at Already Pretty last Sunday, one trend I'm super excited for this season is wide-leg pants.  I've been thrifting culottes for years, but it's still nice to see a bigger selection of wide legs in the regular retail world.  Wide legs like this pair here:

I love these pants.  I know they aren't very flattering and that the cropped length with the high waist is an unusual silhouette, but I like that about them.

That's right; I like that they aren't very flattering.  Because, some days, I don't care to have my figure flattered.  Some days, I just like to wear weird shit.  You know, to confound the natives.

Now, is this outfit actually that weird?  I don't think so.  I think what it actually is, is very specific.  The silhouette of the pants, the cut of the shoes, the blobby print of the blouse:

Yes, blobby is the technical term.

And yes, it it all makes for a very specific look.  And yes, sometimes the natives mistake specific for weird.  And no, I don't care.

Blouse: LOFT (similar)  Pants: Ann Taylor
Belt: v. old Macy's (similar)  Shoes: Summit White Mountain "Brinley"

Because, I'll tell you what, Reader Friends.  I am here for the wide-leg silhouette.  One hundred percent.

It's All Love

Or, I guess I should say, it's all hearts:

Sweater: thrifted vintage  Blouse: LOFT (similar)
Pants: Gap  Boots: Franco Sarto "Eminent"

Really, it is.  The design on both my sweater and my blouse are hearts:

The sweater is vintage (I removed the arms) and the blouse is LOFT:

And they were surely meant to be; otherwise I wouldn't look so damn happy about it.  (Just kidding, I totally would).

Winter White, Winter Bright

Today I'm wearing winter white with winter bright(s):

Specifically, I paired a winter white sweater with a winter bright skirt, scarf and tights:

Sweater: Gap (similar)  Scarf: Nordstrom Rack
Skirt: upcycled Guatemalan dress  Tights: DKNY (similar)  Boots: Born "Sosie" (similar)

Because they pair well and they rhyme.  Win-win.

Coatigan

No, not "that coat again."  Coatigan.  It's a cross between a coat and a cardigan:

This particular coatigan is from LOFT and I love the forest green color:

And I love how warm it is.  In fact, it's frankly too warm to wear unless it's freezing out.  Happily, it's been freezing out this week so I was able to pull it out of my closet where it had been languishing since this fall.

I layered it over a thrifted sweater dress which was, in turn, layered over a turtleneck and ponte pants:

Coatigan: LOFT (similar)  Dress: thrifted (similar)  Pants: Gap (similar)
Hat: Nordstrom (similar)  Scarf: Target (similar) Boots: Born Crown (similar)

Yeah, I'll definitely be wearing this coatigan.  Again.

Pleated and Printed

This dress has everything a gal could ask for in a vintage dress.  It's both pleated and printed:

What, exactly, it's printed with, I can't say.  It's some sort of random, 60s print:

But, that random 60s print works well with modern neutrals.

Modern neutrals like this faux leather moto and the suede boots:

Dress: thrifted vintage (similar)
Moto: Guess via Nordstrom Rack (similar)  Boots: Circa Joan & David (similar)

Goodbye, Sunshine

I wore this outfit to say goodbye to the sunshine:

Because I'm pretty sure this is the last time I'll be able to handle bare legs or open toes until at least April, probably May.

I figured a mix of blue, olive, brown and golden raisin worked well for saying goodbye to the sun.  The mix makes me think of early fall when the skies are still blue (for the most part) and the leaves are just starting to turn:

From here on out, it's going to be tights.  Probably black tights.  And ankle boots and a bunch of black, gray and navy.  So sad.

And all the more reason to get in a nonsense color combination while I still can:

Cardigan: LOFT (similar)  Tee: LOFT
Skirt: LOFT  Belt: J.Crew  Shoes: FRYE (similar)

What about you, Reader Friends?  Have you said goodbye to sunshine yet?

Pleats and Stripes

Two things I have a lot of: stripes and pleated skirts.  Sometimes I like to wear them together:

And sometimes I like to wear those pleats and stripes with vests and ankle boots:

Although lately it feels as though I'm wearing this vest with everything.  And now that fall is officially here, I am definitely going to start wearing ankle boots with everything.

Like with these pleats and stripes:

Skirt: thrifted vintage (similar) (similar)  Tee: Gap
Vest: Old Navy (similar)  Earrings: handmade (similar)  Boots: Sole Society "Romy"

Late Summer Layers

So, it turns out that yelling "boot season is here!" doesn't actually make it boot season.  I know, weird; I totally thought that would work too.

But, it didn't, so I'm back in sandals:

Not that I'm complaining; I love these sandals and am happy to get a little more wear out of them this year before boxing them up for the next  nine months:

Dress: Gap (similar)  Necklace: Modcloth (similar)
Vest: Old Navy (similar)  Sandals: Summit White Mountain

Still, I was awfully excited to wear some boots.  But, it's just too darned hot.

I did throw in some layers though:

So, take that, lingering heat!

Olive, Cognac & Cream

Boot season is here!  Okay, not really.  Well, sort of.  In the mornings it's chilly, but then it gets hot and my feet sweat.  But, it's totally worth the sweaty feet to be back in boots.

And I thought that these boots, in particular, were a good pick for fall:

Their "fallen leaf" color brings a little autumn to the otherwise summery combination of olive, cream and turquoise.

And I had to wear the turquoise:

One, because I love this piece, and two, because I'm trying to wear all of my necklaces before I begin to default to scarves.  Because here in PA it's not just a month or two of scarves, it's like half a damn year.

But, for now, the weather is perfect for statement necklaces.  And boots, of course:

Top: Macys (similar) Necklace: LOFT (similar)
Skirt: Nordstrom (similar)  Boots: Steve Madden (similar)

Fringed and Tasseled

In retrospect, fringe and tassels in a single outfit might be overkill:

Or, it just might be awesome.  Personally, I'm voting for awesome.

I mean, what beats a vintage tasseled bag from the 80s?

Ordinarily, the answer would be nothing.  But add fringed sandals to that tasseled bag?

Retro-cheerleader-y fantastic-ness!  Seriously, there's something about this outfit that makes me feel like a cheerleader.  You know, in the days before their "outfits" consisted of crop tops and tiny skirts.

Although, I double that they used to wear fringed sandals to cheer.  They should have though; I love these sandals:

Tee: LOFT  Skirt: thrifted vintage  Earrings: thrifted vintage (similar)
Sandals: Summit by White Mountain (in brown too)  Bag: thrifted vintage (similar)
