No Nonsense Denim Leggings

I'm wearing white today:

And yes, it's after Labor Day.

The thing is, I received these white denim leggings from No Nonsense, and I like them too much to relegate them to summer wear only.  They are extremely comfortable, and are a surprisingly good length, even after washing.  I got them in XL and they fit snugly, without being too tight.  I will say though, that they are probably better suited for an "apple" shape than someone with a "curvier" shape; there is a bit of a gap in the waist for me.

So, yes, I'm wearing white after Labor Day:

Leggings: c/o No Nonsense  Tunic: Nordstrom Rack (similar)
Pendant: v. old Old Navy (similar)  Vest: Nordstrom (similar)  Shoes: Via Spiga (similar)

Thank goodness there are no rules against that sort of thing, right?

Double Plaid and a Big Ol' Tassel

It's true.  I'm wearing double plaid and a big ol' tassel:

Quite possibly the biggest of big ol' tassels, but, I can't help it, it makes me happy.

Especially when paired with double plaid:

The skirt is vintage wool, thrifted, of course and I think it pairs perfectly with this plaid shirt:

I finished the look with my trusty riding boots:

Shirt: Banana Republic  Skirt: thrifted vintage
Scarf: La Fiorentina (also in red) Belt: Michael Michael Kors (similar) Boots: Born Crown (similar)

And, of course, the big ol' tassel.  As one does.

A Bit of Blue

I probably could have gone head to toe neutral with this look, but I am unable to resist sneaking even just a bit of blue into my outfits:

My excuse?  The pendant on the necklace has a little blue one it:

My other excuse?  I love blue and I'm not sorry.

I'm also not sorry about my love for cropped pants.  I'm so very happy they're back:

These aren't quite culottes, but they have a great wide leg and are a nice departure from the fitted pants I usually wear:

Top: thrifted vintage (similar)  Pants: LOFT (on sale too!)
Pendant: Target (similar)  Sandals: Zigi Girl "Maybel"

Oh, and they look great with a bit of blue.  So, you know, win-win.

Leopard and Lace

This is the most basic of outfits:

The thing is, by this time of year any creativity I have in regards to my summer clothes is completely exhausted and I'm just waiting for it to be cold enough to layer.

So, today, it's just pants, a shirt and flats:

Top: Marshall's  Pants: LOFT  Shoes: Nine West

Basic.  But, not boring.  The pants add a bit of color, the lace top adds a bit of texture and the leopard flats add a bit of fun.  I like to think that this outfit is proof that even the most basic outfit doesn't have to be boring.

Or, another way to put it: when it doubt, wear leopard and lace.

Pom Pom Peplum

Now, I know it might seem odd to have a favorite trim, but I do.  It's pom poms, followed closely by rick-rack.  Given my love for pom pom trim, this eShakti blouse was essentially destined to be mine:

Cutest damned peplum ever, right?   I mean.  Pom poms, people.  Pom. Poms.

Seriously, I know it's kind of ridiculous, but it's mostly awesome and it makes me so very happy:

And I got it on sale, so it's even better!  Unfortunately, it looks as though this particular blouse is sold out, but this one is awfully similar and one could easily add the pom poms.

My only concern with this top is that it's pretty sheer.  Especially the lace panels up the sides, but I think it worked okay layered over a white tank that wasn't too much shorter than the blouse itself.  I also wore micro-check pants from Gap and Nine West leopard print flats:

Because leopard and pom poms were meant to go together.

Guess What?! Culottes!!

Guess what?

If you guessed culottes, you're either very smart or very literate (both good things):

Because I am, in fact, wearing CULOTTES!!!!

Yes, this is the best picture I've ever taken.

Man, I love, love, love me some culottes.  When I was younger, I had a white pair with a rainbow embroidered across the pelvis and down the legs.  They were a bit of 70s heaven and because of them, I have always had a soft spot in my heart for culottes.

In fact, I've been looking to thrift a pair for the past year or so, but without any luck.  Happily my Mom is basically a thrifting goddess and found this pair for me:

They make me smirk with joy!

Now, don't get me wrong; I recognize that culottes aren't the most figure-flattering things in the world.  But, they're beyond great for bike riding and I feel slouchy and cool in them, as opposed to sloppy and plump.

And this particular pair not only makes me feel magically cool, they have both pockets and awesome buttons:

Man, I love these things.

What about you, Reader Friends?  Are you a fan of culottes?

Long Tall Leopard

This summer has, inadvertently, turned into a summer of experimentation for me.  I'm trying a lot of things that I wouldn't ordinarily wear, such as body-con prom dresses, short-sleeve sweaters and today, drape-y leopard pants:

Now, don't get me wrong, I love the idea of drape-y pants, but my thighs aren't usually amenable to being draped.  They say that draping reminds them of Ancient Greece and they well remember the persecution of thighs in Ancient Greece.  They are, of course, patently ridiculous, but if they don't cooperate, there will be no draping.

Well, I'm happy to say, after years of shouted nonsense and secessionist threats, that my thighs have finally cooperated:

These pants, courtesy of Long Tall Sally, are actually, honest-to-goodness drape-y pants.  I ordered an XL to give them a fighting chance against my thighs so they are actually much too big in the waist, but I love the way they fit my troublesome thighs so much that I made them work.  I belted them and then folded the waistband over the belt.  I think they'd be perfect on someone with more of an apple shape, especially if purchased in the correct size.

Even though I ordered them too large, I can honestly say they are a great pant.  They are plenty long enough and stupid comfortable.  Also, leopard:

My only complaint, and it's a small one, is that knees tend to bag a bit after a day of sitting at a desk.  Otherwise, if you're looking for something fun and comfortable to wear this summer, I highly recommend them.

Teal Abyss

So, the color of these pants is Teal Abyss:

And that kind of makes me laugh because it's an awfully dramatic name for a pants color.  It reminds me of this movie (oooh, drama). But, I appreciate that LOFT went for the drama instead of just calling it "Dark Teal" or something boring like that.

I also appreciate that LOFT made these pants at all because they're kind of fabulous.  They have a fairly high, wide waistband, so they're super comfortable and they hold their shape pretty darned well.  Also, they're teal and I'm big on teal this fall:

Best of all, they come in Tall; although not in this color anymore.  But, they do have limited offerings in Tall in other colors and you can still get Teal Abyss in regular lengths and I recommend them for everyone; giants and non-giants alike (just make sure you line dry them).

In addition to my teal abyss pants (LOFT), I also wore a mustard sweater (thrifted, similar (tall & plus available)), black pumps (Gentle Souls "Rhemsical") and a tassel necklace (Old Navy, similar).  I thought the tone of the pants worked well with the sweater and both colors seemed perfect for a clear but cool fall day.
