Boot season is here! Okay, not really. Well, sort of. In the mornings it's chilly, but then it gets hot and my feet sweat. But, it's totally worth the sweaty feet to be back in boots.
And I thought that these boots, in particular, were a good pick for fall:
Their "fallen leaf" color brings a little autumn to the otherwise summery combination of olive, cream and turquoise.
And I had to wear the turquoise:
One, because I love this piece, and two, because I'm trying to wear all of my necklaces before I begin to default to scarves. Because here in PA it's not just a month or two of scarves, it's like half a damn year.
But, for now, the weather is perfect for statement necklaces. And boots, of course:

BP Tassel Trim Colorblock Poncho - Ponchos remain a big trend for fall and the longer length on this one is great if you're on the taller side. The length will also allow it to be belted easily, making it super versatile. Also, tassels!!
Hinge Lace Mix Top - This lace top is so pretty. It's also perfect for cooler summer days and can be layered through fall.
Kate Spade New York Glitter Stud Earrings - These earrings have been on my list for a long time, but they were sold out. I'm thrilled they're back and on sale! Also, glitter!!
Topshop Button-Front Denim Skirt - The 70s are also a big trend for this coming fall, and this skirt is 70s to me in the best possible way. Perfect with tights, boots and a turtleneck sweater.
Born "Helen" Boots - I purchased my beloved Born boots at a Nordstrom Anniversary Sale in 2007 and they've finally given up the ghost. I'm purchasing these as a replacement.

I've been extraordinarily homesick lately so I've been wearing my home tee a lot. Like a lot:
It has an outline of the state of Oregon on it and says "home." It makes me perversely happy to wear it here in Pennsylvania as I still am unable to view PA as my home. Perhaps eventually, but not yet.
Of course, I don't know if Emma is wearing a home tee (probably not, poor girl), but I think the rest of my look is fairly close:
Gray jacket, pale scarf, jeans and boots. Yep, we're practically twins.

So, Emma, from Behind the Leopard Glasses is having the best month-long challenge and link party ever. It's all about prints and patterns! The idea is to wear a different pattern every day (you can see the challenge calendar on her site). I missed the first couple of days due to lack of appropriate patterns and general laziness, but today, today I'm participating.
The featured pattern for today is chevron. As it turns out, I don't have a lot of chevron in my closet, but I was determined to participate in this fun challenge and after a bit of scrounging around I found this top:
It's technically lace, but it has a few lines of chevron running through there.
In addition to being lace, the top is also sleeveless so, because our mornings are a bit chillier now, I paired it with my olive cardigan:
At first I wasn't sure about the combination of coral, olive and navy, but I figured that coral and navy look good together and olive is basically a neutral so it'd be fine.
See? That color combination totes makes sense.
Also, I realize that in all of the above pictures, my left earring is turned around so it looks like I'm just wearing gold earrings. I'm not. I'm actually wearing even more color:
Are any of those colors in my outfit? Of course not! But I wore the earrings anyway. Because they go.
So, there you have it. Chevron lace, a possibly weird color combination and non-matching, but totally-going earrings:
All part of an outfit that's so wrong, it's right.
The thing is, by this time of year any creativity I have in regards to my summer clothes is completely exhausted and I'm just waiting for it to be cold enough to layer.
So, today, it's just pants, a shirt and flats:

Basic. But, not boring. The pants add a bit of color, the lace top adds a bit of texture and the leopard flats add a bit of fun. I like to think that this outfit is proof that even the most basic outfit doesn't have to be boring.
Or, another way to put it: when it doubt, wear leopard and lace.
I have blue hair. Well, I have blue streaks in my hair:
You really can't see them at all far away, but they are there. It's just not always obvious in my dark hair. Which is the way I wanted it.

Why blue hair? I blame the Tyroshi. Okay, maybe not; I just knew that I wanted it and my stylist agreed. She's pretty great like that.
Enough of the hair though. I am also wearing clothing:

Because, no matter how great you feel about your blue hair, you can't just wear it and nothing else. At least not in public. Unless, of course, it's during the World Naked Bike Ride, but that's not until June. So I wore clothes.
That's right, I had trouble putting together leggings and a tunic.
The thing is, I don't wear black from head-to-toe. I pretty much have to have a pop of color; scarf, earrings, something. Or something shiny. I had to force myself to back away from my Foxxy Anubis brooch this morning.
However, I (sometimes) like a good challenge so I bit the bullet and resisted the urge to add color or shine, depending instead on different textures to (hopefully) add interest to my monochromatic look.
I, apparently, also wanted to show how it was possible to wear head-to-toe black and not look sleek and cool.
But, enough about my enduring fluffiness. Let's get back to the texture:
Yes, my sweater is texturally interesting. And yes, I do have to make that face when providing a close-up of this tunic. Rules is rules, folks.

I don't usually participate in Inspiration Monday because I forget and/or don't have the right pieces and am not creative enough to make it work with the pieces I do have. Today though, I had everything I needed; leather, denim and lace. Oh, and bitchface:
Okay, it's not the epic bitchface of January Jones, it's more like the suggestion of bitchface or like I'm thinking really hard, but it's the best I could do on the face.
And this was the best I could do on the clothes:
Instead of being all sad-faced that I didn't have similar pieces, I used the pieces I had in similar fabrics. My lace (sans the black bra (next time though, next time)) is my lace sweatshirt (Macy's). My denim is jeans (Old Navy Mid-Waist Rockstar Skinnies) instead of a jacket. And my leather is just the boots (Luxury Rebel via Piperlime) instead of pants and boots.
And, frankly, I think I nailed it:
I'm the one on the right. I know, it's confusing.

Either way, it could probably stand to be paired
with a bolder color than navy. I did add a bit of color with the
jewelry. But then I went with the pale gold shoes; again, I think a
colored shoe might have been more interesting.
I think
I just don’t believe it’s spring yet so I’m sticking to my dark, winter
neutrals. Yes, it has been in the 70s here the past couple of days,
but I know as soon as I pull out my spring/summer clothes, the temps
will drop and it’ll start hailing. Oregon weather
loves to play mind games.

I have been eyeballing the FRANKIE necklaces from Etsy
vendor, NestoftheBluebirds, for a couple of months now and finally pulled
the trigger on this one:

Today I paired the necklace with a simple, cream lace sweatshirt
(Macys) and burgundy cords (Banana Republic).This lets the necklace be the star.I also added blue leopard flats (Nine West “Naughty”) because 1) I love
burgundy and blue and 2) it picks up the blue from the necklace tying the whole
look together.
That’s right, not all of
my outfits are happy accidents; sometimes I actually think things through!
