Mock Turtles = Professional

I wore shorts to work today.  Not clam diggers, not Bermudas, shorts:

But, it’s okay, because I paired the shorts (Target) with a mock turtleneck (vintage, thrifted).  And if anything says professional, it’s a mock turtleneck.  I completed my totally professional outfit with patent mini-wedges (Seychelles), several bracelets and hot pink drop earrings.

As I was wandering along the edge of The Printed Plains in The Giant’s Closet, I came to the realization that I really, really love these shorts.  Not this particular pair (although they do make me happy), but this style of shorts.  As it turns out, I have three pairs of printed shorts from Target and they are all Merona, Fit 1.  I like them because they have fun prints but also because of the fit.  The ride a little lower on the waist, but aren’t low-rise.  And my favorite part; they don’t cut into my thighs when I sit down.

So, these shorts are definitely a keeper.  And of course I have to keep the mock turtleneck as it’s clearly an integral part of my professional wardrobe.

The Compromise

I love these pants but my thighs are a bit unsure about them:

They feel like these pants (thrifted) draw unnecessary attention to them.  Let’s be clear though.  It’s not that my thighs are shy; no, they’re just in the middle of planning a revolt and don’t want any undue attention until they’re ready to storm the castle.  I’m all for revolution, so I compromised by wearing a bright orange shirt (Old Navy) with these pants.  As you can see, the shirt serves as a distraction so that no one notices my palm-printed thighs stockpiling C-4.

So, really, this outfit is a win-win for everyone.

The Summer Sweater

This sweater is another item from The Giant’s Closet that I really like, but am pretty clueless on how to style:

I bought it because it seems like a great summer sweater with its sheer stripes and butter yellow color.  And then I remembered that it seems weird to me to wear sweaters in summer.  And then I remembered that I never know how to style lightweight sweaters.  I gave it a try today though and paired the sweater (thrifted) with a floral maxi skirt (Target).  I added a braided belt (thrifted), black sandals (White Mountain via Macys) and an amber necklace (local artist).  

And I liked it enough that now I think maybe I can style it so I’m going to keep it around, at least for a bit.

Camp Counselor

I borrowed the idea for this color combination from Delayed Missives:

 

But, the decision to dress like a camp counselor at an aggressively feminist all-girls summer camp is all me.  You're welcome.   

To achieve this look, I paired a vintage Levi’s work skirt with a vintage neon pink camp shirt (thrifted).  I added sturdy navy platform sandals (MRKT via DSW) and a couple of bracelets.  I left my whistle at home though.  Oh, well, next time. 

Even though I already own a neon pink blouse, I think I want to keep this one as well; if only because the other neon blouse doesn’t have pockets or jaunty rolled sleeves.  And I think I’m going to keep this skirt also; it’ll be great for wearing with sweaters for the fall and winter.
