Last Saturday, I went to see Don Giovanni at the Portland Opera with my best group of girl friends, Alex, Jodi and Erica. We went to dinner at Gracie's and dessert at The Driftwood Room, both in the Hotel DeLuxe, before the show, and it was delicious. After we ate, we had to rush across town (I like to linger over my champagne cocktails) to the show, but we made it and saw a fabulously modern rendition of Don Giovanni. It was my first opera and I'm hooked; I'll definitely be going back.
For my inaugural opera, I wore this:
I found this dress for under $10 at my now-defunct local Salvation Army. As soon as I saw it, I knew I'd found my opera dress. I paired my opera dress (vintage, tag says Styled by Linda Jane), with fishnets (Target), a vintage fur (also $10, at a garage sale), Franco Sarto pumps (via Nordstrom) and a vintage clutch and jewelry.
The earrings are vintage, via Ray's Ragtime, the bracelet is vintage, via Red Fox Vintage, I can't remember where the ring is from and the clutch is also vintage, also Salvation Army.
Alex also wore vintage:
She borrowed my vintage pleated dress, vintage clutch (thrifted) and belt (Target). She is also wearing leopard heels (thrifted), opera-length bejeweled gloves (Lil' Gypsy vintage), her mother's prom fur (so cute!) and her grandmother's vintage jewelry.
This weekend, I'm (sadly) not doing anything so fancy. I'm heading up to a football game at Portland State, looking for a button for my new vintage coat and going to the Chart House. Even though I did go to school at PSU, I don't think I'm going to root for them. Instead I'm going to root for myself to stay warm and dry. Go Gracey!
Happy Saturday, All!

Gracey, your first trip to the opera, but you nailed the perfect look first time. Your friend looks beautiful too. I live in a very casual city, and not everyone dresses up for concerts (boo!), but I will not be held back from a sequinned jacket!
ReplyDeleteyou look amazing, so glamorous!
ReplyDeleteI think you build enough fancy into your opera outing, so you don't HAVE to be fancy this weekend. (: Was it awesome?
ReplyDeleteBlimey, you scrub up a treat, as they say in Yorkshire! What a fabulous dress, and what legs! Alex look stunning, I love her frock too.

You both look lovely and I would love to see how the other two in your group dressed!
ReplyDeleteLove both outfits. And the furs. Are there many women in furs at the Opera? I've always loved Opera music, but have never been to see one live. I've always loved the Opera 'Carmen' by Bizet and hope to see it someday. That opportunity to go ultra glam is just too tempting.
Oh my, you both look stunning!
ReplyDeleteFantastic Gracey! You've really found the most incredibly glamorous outfit! It's elegant, eye catching and Sexy! With that killer smile I bet you (and Alex) turned quite a few heads!

ReplyDeleteIf I had known you were going to be in the area for the PSU game, I would have invited you out for coffee or something! I only live a few blocks from where they played.
The two of you look like royalty, stunning and certainly fit for an opera! Going to an opera is on my bucket list and I'd like to think I would dress as fabulously as you! The detailing and the slit on your dress is va va boom!

That is an amazing opera outfit! I have not yet been to the opera myself, but I have been to the theatre and the orchestra, and love to dress up. A lot of other people wear jeans and sweaters, but I could never do that myself. In fact, true story: last Christmas, my parents bought us tickets for The Mousetrap, so my partner and I went a little retro with our looks--me in a houndtooth sheath dress and he in one of his best suits. As we waited at the front of the theater for my parents to show up, I saw so many people going inside wearing very casual outfits. As I commented to my partner how I couldn't believe people were wearing jeans, sneakers, and sweaters to the theater, my parents rounded the corner... wearing jeans, sneakers, and sweaters. These were the same people who raised me to dress up fancy for things like this! I was confused and slightly mortified, but luckily they didn't hear my comments.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, you look stunning!! Oooh la la! Alex looks pretty spectacular too! That must have been so much fun to be able to dress up and hit the town!
ReplyDeleteCan you sing? You could be IN the opera.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning! <3
ReplyDeleteYou look soooooo super stunning! So elegant, I love love LOVE this!
ReplyDeletexoxo,

Wow you ladies look so fancy!! I went to an opera version of the Nutcracker and was bored out of my gourd so not sure I'd ever go to another one but love to dress up for going to theater here in NYC
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh that dress. I'm in love!! I love that you got it for such a bargain, and I love that you paired it with fur. Any excuse to wear fur is a great excuse in my book!
ReplyDeleteAlso, my blog is up and running again. Thanks for stopping by before I shut it down!
