Burgundy and Orange

Burgundy and orange are one of those color combinations that look fabulous to my eye even if they don’t exactly make sense on paper:

I am especially fond of the plummy burgundy (which, yes, I call oxblood when I want to seem on-trend) of this turtleneck (Gap) paired with the bright, tangerine orange of this skirt (vintage via Goodwill).  I also wore a cream, cashmere sweater (Forte Cashmere via Ideeli), black tights (Spanx via Nordstrom) and snake platform pumps (Pierre Dumas via Piperlime).

Also, I didn’t realize it until today, but I’m a turkey decal away from being dressed like the Virginia Tech 2012 Russell Athletic Bowl Helmets.

And, in Great-Intent-Shaky-Execution News, I also wore this metal filigree necklace from Old Navy:

You can’t see it in the other photos because there isn’t enough contrast between it and the turtleneck, and because my hair is in the way, but, I swear that I wore it and that it added pretty much nothing to the outfit.

Happy Tuesday, Everyone!

P.S.  You're welcome for all of the football helmets I share.

Pants Weather

I’ve been so busy lamenting the fact that it’s not yet sweater weather, that I forgot what kind of weather it is.  It’s pants weather, people:

Earring Close Up

Pants weather for me is the very small window where it’s not hot but it’s also not raining.  (I don’t like to wear pants or jeans in the rain because they take too long to dry after the morning commute).  And the weather right now is just perfect.

Is it white pants weather though?  Eh, not for some, maybe, but I’m good with it.  These particular white pants are Gap Always Skinny jeans and this is my first time wearing them on the blog.  I’d been looking for white jeans for a couple years, but they’re all so tight and see-through, that I couldn’t find a pair I liked.  And then I saw a tip on a blog (I wish I could remember which one) that suggested sizing up on skinny jeans for a more relaxed look.

And I think it worked.  I like these jeans and I like them with this lemon-yellow silk tee (Dana Buchman, thrifted).  I also added gray snake platforms (Pierre Dumas “Chic-1” via Piperlime), a bead and chain necklace (Nordstrom, v. old), a thrifted cuff and vintage turquoise earrings.  Sure it seems a little summery, but I’m actually planning on wearing lemon yellow all fall, so we’re just going to pretend it’s a good transitional outfit.
Shop the Look**:

As you may have noticed, I’ve added a new “Shop the Look” section to my posts.  I’ve had enough interest from readers in finding exact or similar pieces to what I wear, that I thought it might be a good idea to add this feature.  I want you to know that, that in adding this, I did become affiliated with a couple of monetizing networks, so clicking on the links could result in my being compensated.  You can read more about that on the Disclosure tab I added to my blog.  And, effective immediately, I will also include a disclosure statement on every post where clicking on the link could result in compensation for me.

Holy smokes, this was wordy, so I’m going to stop here and wish you all a Happy Thursday!

The Non-Replacement Shoes & a Closet Orphan

Friday I was so proud of myself for having purchased replacement shoes and for somewhat following my one-in-one-out policy for buying new items.  Today I have to admit that I fell off the wagon.  I ordered these shoes the other day and they’re not intended to replace anything, I just really like them:

I have been looking for a pair of gray shoes that weren’t gray suede and I think snake is such a fun print, I had to get these.  And, of course, I had to wear them today:

For their inaugural outing, I paired the shoes (Pierre Dumas Chic-1 via Piperlime) with hot pink pants (Michael Michael Kors via Ross) and a lightweight sweater (v. old Hinge via Nordstrom).  This sweater is the closet orphan I alluded to in the title.  I love the color and the open weave on the back is pretty cool…

But, I never wear it because it’s kind of an odd length.  I think that on non-giants it’s probably a proper tunic, but on my giant-self, it hits me at the worst possible place on my thighs.  And you know how thighs get if they think they’re not being shown in the most flattering clothes; they get mutinous and stabby.  Or, at least mine do.  To avoid Mutinous Thigh Syndrome (MTS), I tried to work with my thighs by reverse-tucking the sweater under my belt, and I think it worked.

Oh, and, in addition to new shoes, I’m also wearing a new necklace:

Isn’t it fabulous?  I mean, sure, it’s a bit off-kilter in this photo, but that’s just how I roll.  And, even off-kilter, I think it’s awesome.  I bought it this weekend at Lil’ Gypsy Vintage.  It’s from the 70s and the stone is moss agate.  And it's fabulous.

In addition to the vintage shopping, I also went thrifting and somehow managed to limit myself to only a blouse and a coat.  I’m very proud.  Oh, and I went to pole dancing class where I got some more bruises and mastered Naughty Carousel.  I’m also proud of that.  Next week?  Peter Pan.

Finally, because there is nothing shy about hot pink pants and snake platforms, I've linked up to Patti's Visible Monday over at Not Dead Yet Style.

Happy Monday, All!
