Closet Orphans: A Rose Print Dress & Stumpifying Flats

Today’s outfit is a combination of closet orphans that I like but don’t wear:

I don’t wear them because, while I really do like both the dress (vintage Clifford & Wills) and the flats (Hive and Honey “Yvonna” via Piperlime), they have their disadvantages as well.  The dress, for example, doesn’t have a full enough skirt for riding my bike in.  When I bought it, I planned on wearing it in the winter with tights, which means it’s been languishing in my closet for a few months now.  The flats, while ridiculously comfortable, can also be a bit stumpifying due to the ankle strap.  Because most of my skirts and dresses are longer, I’m limited in what I can wear these flats with.

Today, however, I decided to pair the two because I drove to work (there was a thunderstorm warning this morning) and thought the above-the-knee length of the dress would be okay with the flats.  And I think it was okay.  In fact, I really like it.  I like the pairing of black and brown (I also added a brown belt (Gap) and jewelry) and love the fit of the dress.  Even though it’s not my usual silhouette, I was very comfortable all day long.

So, these two orphans are definitely keepers.  Speaking of which, I have quite a few more never-worn items that I need to get through, but hopefully I’ll be done with my Nosh Opping expedition by the end of this month.  Hopefully.

Happy Tuesday, All!

  2. Darn, I was hoping you were going to hate the flats and sell them to me! Hehe. Seriously, though, you have nicer legs than I do, so you should keep the ankle-strap flats.

    1. You are trouble. I have the Piperlime link up right now, and I'm trying to decide whether to purchase the shoes or not. I like the cognac ones a lot, but I feel like I don't need another pair of brownish shoes, so I may go for the red ones...

  3. That dress is very cute on you! And those shoes are darling. You have the tiny ankles to wear ankle straps.

Love your beautiful and radiant smile, Gracey.

  10. I have been obsessing over ankle strap shoes and haven't got a pair yet. I am trying to be on the outskirts of the land of nosh opping (sooo trying not to buy things but probably failing miserably) but I really just want a pair. O well- I will live vicariously through you (so weird I just said that).

  13. I have so got to start wearing my bifocals. I read "strumpifying" (root word "strumpet") and was thoroughly confused, because you look so perfectly and appropriately attired, and I've seen way higher heels :P

Pretty and comfortable, the best of both worlds, you got it :)

  14. Oh Nosh Opping I'll be sad for you to end! :) I was wearing an almost identical pair of flats (Fergalicious by Fergie) flats today but they gave me awful blisters. Vintage really suits you- so cut!

  16. I especially love the shoes. Does the dress button from top to bottom? If so, you could wear it as a duster.

  18. I notice how easy it is to make my legs look stumpy/calves look like cankles but it's not my fault that I'm apparently anatomically incorrect and the clothes don't fit me! Haha. What I'm saying is, I totally understand and often do not do my legs any favors with cut/shoe.
