I worry about the waist on this dress:
Specifically, I worry that it’s a drop waist; or an almost drop waist. I don’t
like drop waist dresses on me; for my body, waists are like eggs; they’re
better when they haven’t been dropped. And this dress looks like its heading towards
being dropped or at the very least drooped.
I know a dropped waist can be nice for the short-waisted,
but I’m not particularly short-waisted so they just look funny on me. In fact, the only reason I hadn’t worn it
before was out of concern about the waist.
But I think belting it worked fairly well:
Which is good because outside of the questionable waist, I
really do like this dress. I love the length, the print and the
colors. And I think it’s another floral
that will work well for fall with tights and boots. Today, however, I paired the dress (vintage,
thrifted) with the woven belt (thrifted) and nude platform sandals (Banana
Republic).
Happy Thursday, All!
Gracey

gracey, it'a a lovely print, & i like how you incorporated the colors with your bracelets! :) funny egg/waist comparison.
ReplyDeleteI hear you on the dropped waist thing. I'm pretty evenly proportioned between torso and legs, but given my height, I have a looooong waist for most garments.
ReplyDeleteLovely dress! That looks like a classic Liberty print. I adore those.
I'm not into the drop waist thing either, but the belt totally solves that prob here! That print is just lovely... love that blue on you too. I vote this dress a keeper! Also when I saw the title of this post come up in my reader I couldn't wait to find out how the hell waists are like eggs :)
ReplyDeleteI have the same sentiment about drop waist dresses...or even drooping waist dresses! But you know, this looks totally great to me...I wouldn't have thought twice :) And sometimes it's easy to fix if you just throw on a thicker belt than usual and make sure it's riding a little higher, kinda creates a waist where there isn't!

I think it totally works belted - it does not look like a drop waist and you look really lovely in it. And you're right, the length and pattern are really great.

Dropped waists and I do not hang out. We don't even go to the same parts of town. I think you tamed this one down nicely, though. (:
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post title! I think in this case the dropped waist may be more felt than seen OR you've done a great job of disguising it with the belt. I like the look.
ReplyDeleteThat dress is a beautiful print and color, and I think you masterfully vanquished that drop waist with your belt. (You have a splendid belt collection, by the way!) :)
ReplyDeleteGreat post !

Hah! That was a clever title, I had to sit and think for a moment how eggs were like waists before I read on. Very clever! ^_^
ReplyDeleteUgh, I just am not a fan of a dropped waist! I am short in the torso and they still look ridiculous on me. I think you fixed the problem very well with the belt, I would have never guessed this dress had a low waistline. (And it's such a pretty print!)
I know what you mean about the wait, but this dress looks great!
ReplyDeleteThis title totally sucked me in. I had to read more. Good one girl, good one. In addition, I would like to say that I would never have looked at this dress and thought, "Gracey is wearing a drop waist dress." I love this print. Can't wait to see you rock it in the fall.

ReplyDeletei never wear drop waisted dresses, either. i think with the belt, it looks fabulous on you!
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't look droopy at all. In fact, I think it looks lovely on you, belted the way it is!
ReplyDeleteYou're too funny, drop waisted and eggs, love the dress, stunning! You're a pro at pairing vintage with modern!
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely one of my fave dresses of yours. You gave it a great waist with that belt. I'm also admiring that Party on the Arm. You go, girl! Love how the orange bangle picks up the orange in your dress.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry. It's perfect. I love the shoes with the dress and belt.
ReplyDeletecute dress and loving the shoes! this will definitely be a good one to rock in the fall too! can't wait to see you do it with the boots!
