I Just Can’t Like It

I want to like this dress:

I really do.  But, I just can’t.  It’s just not right for me and it makes me pose like an idiot.  I’m perfectly capable of idiotic posing on my own; I don’t need the help.

This dress just seemed like such a good idea when I thrifted it months ago.  I mean, it’s red; I love red.  And it has stripes; I love stripes.  And it’s vintage; I love vintage.  And yet, I don’t like this dress.  I even took the time to hem it above the knee, thinking that might help.  It didn’t.

At first I didn’t wear it because I wasn’t sure how to style it.  But, I like the styling today.  I think the ankle strap flats (Hive and Honey via Piperlime) and the thin belt (Steven Madden) are good choices.  Just with a different dress.  Luckily, my friend Alex has agreed to take this dress off my hands, which leaves me with just one more never worn dress in my closet.  After I wear that, I’m shutting my Nosh Opping Expedition down.

I’ll finish it up this weekend with look at my expedition log and a retrospective of everything that didn’t make the cut.  And then Maurice and I are flying home (he’s going to live in the backyard).

Happy Tuesday, Everyone!

  1. For me the neckline and cap sleeves are what throws it off? It is lovely - maybe modify it into a skirt?

  2. I like the lower half better than the upper, I think; something about those stripes is appealing to me. Congratulations on getting through your Nosh Opping journey. I bet the return to the land of shopping is going to be awesome!

  3. Awww Gracey, I'm sorry that dress didn't work out for you. For what it's worth I think it's cute but I know how it feels to wear something you don't like...it just doesn't feel right. Before you let it go, how about trying it out as a long shirt?

  4. It is pretty cute, but I hear ya when something just isn't right.

  5. I think the dress would work better if it didn't have a collar. I have trouble with collars, so I get what you mean. I hope your friend enjoys it!

  6. Even though you don't like it, you sure do look cute in it! Good thing you have nice friends to help rid you of troublesome dresses!

  7. Actually, I think it's the thin belt that's throwing everything off. Perhaps if you went with a thicker belt it would "feel" and look better to you? Then again, if something doesn't make you feel like yourself, then it will never be right!

  8. Congratulations on surviving the Expedition through the Giant's Closet! I'm with you - the dress is cute, but the proportions seem off a bit. I blame the cap sleeves, myself. I'm curious: how many items got chucked out (or handed on) in the land of Nosh Opping?

  10. Haha! "It makes me pose like an idiot" made me laugh out loud. Too funny girl. I don't see anything wrong with this dress on you. But, you like what you like and no apologies! Almost done with your nosh opping! You go girl!

  11. I can't believe you conquered your entire closet, there. About the dress: it kills me when I SHOULD like something but just... don't. I totally understand. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work!

  12. Oh no! It's so cute! Perhaps wear it with other bright colors? Or wear it as a skirt?

  13. I too think it may be the cap sleeves, I've never seen a flattering outfit with them, they should just cease to exist! Maybe if you made it sleeveless...shame cause the stripes are lovely :)

  14. Hm...I know how it is. ;) I agree, I think it's the top. It's just...meh. I'm not sure why though. I mean, it's cute and all, but...

And I also agree, it would make a fabulous skirt, at least from the photo, but if Alex is willing to take it off your hands, let it go and be free.

  15. The colors are so lovely, but you're right, it isn't in the amazing category like many of your other dresses. I've actually parted with several items of thrifted and/or clearance clothing in the last month that I really thought looked terrific when I bought them, but didn't survive the Light 'O Day or blogger pic challenge. It happens. Luckily, when we thrift, the occasional misstep isn't a huge blow to the wallet.

  16. gracey, you know that finding what makes you feel like your best self is what's important, & if something doesn't feel right for you, kick it the curb! :)

  17. I think you look pretty darn cute in it, but I find that if you don't like a frock, you just don't. And there is nothing worse than spending the day feeling like you might look like a poo. (even if it is just your own personal poo feelings and not any actual poo-ness) ;0
