Oh, Hey There, Boobs

I like this dress, in theory, but I’m not sure it works in reality:

(Similar mixed print dress, Spanx sheer polka dot tights, similar Naughty Monkey boots)

In theory, it’s made of comfortable matte jersey, has great color, a fun pattern and a flattering cut.  In reality, I’m afraid it’s a little “Oh, hey there, Boobs” for my tastes.  I don’t think it’s obscene, but I fear it might be questionable:

Which is too bad, because I otherwise like this outfit.  The dress (Suzy Chin for Maggy Boutique via Ideeli) really is comfortable.  And I love the polka dot tights (Spanx Sheers via Nordstrom) and slouchy boots (Naughty Monkey via Nordstrom) with it.  I just worry about that swath of red fabric across the chest, especially coupled with the lower neckline.

But, oh, well.  Done is done.  And no one has actually said “Oh, hey there, Boobs” to me, so I’m going to say it’s fine.  At least for now.

Happy Thursday, All!

Gracey

  1. Thank you for always writing posts that make me laugh! The title alone made me crack up and almost spit out my yogurt.

I don't think the dress is too booby. In fact, if you hadn't pointed it out, I don't think I would have noticed :)

  2. I can see why you get the impression--the different textile around the bust only and then the rest of the torso being in a darker fabric draws the eye--but because it is modestly cut it just gives you a killer figure, in my opinion. I need to go find myself some of those tights, now.

  3. It's not obscene at all and I like it but it's a very different style than you normally give your boobs :)

  4. It does look okay. For me maybe not because then you would notice.
    It's a nice dress

  5. I don't think this reads "hey there boobs" too much at all. Especially because of the repetition of the pattern on the sleeves and the bottom hem. Girl, this dress is fab.

  6. I think it looks great! I love the print and it actually reminds me up the print of the vintage dress I just wore on my blog too! :)

  7. Also: hey there elbows, hey there knees! I don´t think there is anything wrong with the dress. You could add a black accessory to the décolletage if you wanted to break up the red boob-block, like a black bow brooch (a black ribbon or small scarf on a safety pin, perhaps?) or something. The dress is great on you, really harmonizes with your colouring. You should use it all the time!

  8. Haha. I only wish I had that problem. ;)

  9. The dress is cute but I am in love with your boots. Both these boots and the boots in your previous post are fabulous. My boobs are pretty big and I don't like to emphasize them, so I understand what you are talking about. However, as Sarah said the dress gives you a killer figure. So if you feel comfortable in the dress you should wear it.

  10. I see what you mean, but I think it's ok actually! Maybe break up the boob area with a black scarf to echo the other bits of the dress?

  11. LOL! IT's a beautiful dress and it does seem to focus in there a bit ;) But that's certainly not a bad thing! :) You rock it girl!

  12. The dress is fabulous, it looks amazing on you ... and yip, hey there 'gals' so nice to see you. I understand what you're saying here, and if the boobie area were in the same pattern and colour as the sleeves, it would not make the gals stand out so much. But, I love love love this outfit and you look fabulous (boobs 'n all).

  13. Never had that issue! But srsly, this looks modest to me, and very pretty. The color of the boob area does make it stand out, but it's certainly not vulgar or hey-mister-check-me-out : >

  14. I think the dress is incredibly flattering on you actually. The neckline isn't low, you aren't flashing cleavage (not that that is necessarily a bad thing) and you look beautifully curvaceous of boob and slim of waist and hip. The print and colours are gorgeous. I say keep and wear and be proud of your boobage, you look great! xxxx

  15. LOL Gracey! It does focus on the boobal area, but it looks beautiful on you! I've come to the conclusion, though, that if I don't feel fabulous in it....it doesn't stay. BTW, I answered your question on my blog, but thought I would make sure you got it...the threading is NOT very painful and IMO far less painful than waxing. I really love it! Hugs girly! ~Serene

  16. Exquisite dress! I really like the boho/vintage print and colors, and I think it is very figure-flattering but not in a come-hither way.
Maybe adding a little black vest would make you feel more comfortable? :)

  17. Ha! I've had dresses that do that too - it comes from being "gifted" in the boobular region.

However, it's a lovely dress - maybe add a cardi or a jacket over it to tone down the boobishness?

  18. I think this dress looks incredibly flattering boobs and all. You will get noticed in this dress for sure I say keep it, it's really gorgeous on you!

  19. The dress is okay. I think it is really comfortable. And it does show your boobs! LOL :) It makes your body sexy and shows your curves. Love the suede boots, too.

  20. I have to agree, the dress is flattering! it's definitely not over the top or too va va voom! it looks lovely on you :) I have always WISHED dresses would go "oh hey! there's my boobs!" on me, haha...

  22. Like the others have said, you're not flashing any cleav, and it's a modest dress to start with. BUT, if you don't feel comfy, then let it go.

Personally, I think you look wonderful!

  23. oh hey there pretty! i adore the dress. it reminds me of anna sui. you're not flashing or anything, silly gracey. ;)

  24. While the dress is attractive, it conveys a "wench" look by emphasizing your girls to the degree it does. Not necessarily a bad thing but probably not what you're going for.

  25. If you decide to ditch the dress, CAN I HAVE IT??? I think you look like a million bucks in it!

  26. I think the fabulousness of the dress outweighs any imagined emphasis in the bust area. I'm positive that you're waaaaay more conscious of it than anyone else looking at you. I love it. I'm super top heavy, so all my dressing contains an element of disguise, but you are so proportionate that you look perfect as far as I'm concerned. I love the print and the colors on you too. KEEP IT!!! You're gorgeous.

  27. Oh, hey there, awesome dress. You look stunning. And you're also really funny. :)

  28. I LOVE those tights. I've been looking for some fun sheer textured tights. Are they comfortable or super binding?

  30. You know boobs, seen one, seen them both. Your posture is what makes them so perky miss perfect posture. Great dress. Love the outfit. Dawn suitcase suitcase vignettes slouch a little next time...

  31. To echo most of the above comments: it looks great! (Of course, a little voice is screaming CHOP OFF THE SLEEVES! in my crazy little mind because that's just how weird I am about sleeves on dresses.)

    BTW, long time no talk!

  32. Here's another fan of your dress! Like others have said, there's nothing vulgar about the dress, and it gives you such a tiny waist. Keep it and wear it! You look so lovely in it! The tights are great, the pattern is just perfect with the pattern on the dress.

  33. I think the dress looks great on you, but I hear you about being self-conscience about the boobs. I have been "blessed" with a rather large pair myself and tend to shy from patterns and colorblocking on the boobage area :)
Love the patterned tight. Nice touch

  34. I think it DOES look 'hey there boobs', but in a good way - it highlights what you have, but not in a tacky way. I like it!

  35. I think this dress is very flattering. It does enhance the bust, but it's really adorable. Perhaps it's simply a weekend dress and not meant for a workday.

  36. Long-time reader, first-time commenter just jumping in to say that the neckline really suits you, even if it is lower than you are used to. I think it's something to do with the way it interacts with your hairstyle. Given that you say it's in a comfy stretch jersey I assume you're not in danger of flashing anyone so maybe it's worth aiming for a few more outings before you decide its fate forever.

Personally I think the cut and pattern create lovely balance on you.

  37. no way this is too booby! It looks so pretty and please don't give it away. I guess some days are harder on "our" selfconscious feelings than others, but I have to agree with others that I wouldn't have noticed the situation without you pointing it out. Definitely a keeper!!
