Branching Out

I tend to be a creature of habit when it comes to buying clothes.  I stick with the stores that I know (so much so that my dad asked me the other day if my blog was sponsored by Nordstrom - he's very funny) because I know how they'll fit me.  This is especially true when it comes to brands that carry "tall" clothes.  Because, as all tall women know, there is tall and then there is "tall."

Unfortunately, due to this reliance on the brands I know, I haven't really tried a lot of other tall lines.  But, today I am branching out.

You see that wonderfully stripe-y tunic?  It's from Chadwick's of Boston.

I know!  I had no idea that Chadwick's carried tall clothes either.  But, they do.  Like this tunic:

When Chadwick's offered me an item to review, I was a little hesitant because their "tall" starts at 5'7" which isn't always long enough for me.  But, as you can see, this tunic is plenty long, covering my bum and everything!

Tunic: c/o Chadwick's  Leggings: c/o metrostyle  Jacket: Kenneth Cole Reaction (similar)
Scarf: c/o FRAAS (similar)   Boots: Naughty Monkey (similar)

Which, given how my bum resists coverage by most tunics, is a miracle.  A Chadwick's miracle!

Now, I can't say how Chadwick's will work for women taller than myself, but if you're between 5'7" and 6', I'd say give them a try.  They don't have a huge selection, but they carry good, classic pieces.  I especially like their basics, like my tunic, and I'm drooling over this fabulous plaid blazer!

What about you, Reader Friends?  Are you creatures of habit when it comes to purchasing clothes?  Or do you like to branch out?

Happy Wednesday, All!

Sparkles and Leopard

So, it snowed here the other day.  I only mention this because it doesn’t snow that much in my part of Oregon so it was kind of a big deal.  I celebrated by wearing sparkles and leopard; you know, as one does:

Top: LOFT, similar   Pants: Old Navy, similar   Boots: Naughty Monkey, similar

Also, yes my boots are suede.  And no, they were not even remotely appropriate for walking in the snow.  But, in my defense I didn’t really believe it would snow, because it doesn’t usually, so I just wore whatever I wanted.

So, you know, sparkles and leopard and inappropriate shoes:

Indigo Girl

I’m not sure today’s photos are really doing this dress justice.  They’re skewing a little cobalt when, in truth, this dress is a lovely, deep indigo:

Not that there is anything wrong with cobalt.  I love cobalt.  But this dress is not cobalt, it’s indigo.  I think these photos show it a little bit better:

Hmmph.  Maybe not.

But this photo definitely shows me doing The Duck Face Robot, which is a dance I made up this morning:

Ducks and robots aside, my dress is indigo, not cobalt.  And it’s vintage and warm (wool/acrylic blend) and has pockets, so it’s basically awesome.  In addition to my awesome dress of awesome indigo-ness, I also wore a turtleneck (Gap), tights (Hue via Macys) over which I wore OTK socks (Nordstrom), and suede boots (Naughty Monkey via Nordstrom).  I also added a studded belt (JC Penney) and neon pink studs (Kate Spade New York via Nordstrom).

Also, if you don’t know who the Indigo Girls are, we may need to have a talk.  At the very least you should watch this video (to which you could dance The Duck Face Robot if you wanted):

You're welcome.

Happy Wednesday, All!

Oh, Hey There, Boobs

I like this dress, in theory, but I’m not sure it works in reality:

(Similar mixed print dress, Spanx sheer polka dot tights, similar Naughty Monkey boots)

In theory, it’s made of comfortable matte jersey, has great color, a fun pattern and a flattering cut.  In reality, I’m afraid it’s a little “Oh, hey there, Boobs” for my tastes.  I don’t think it’s obscene, but I fear it might be questionable:

Which is too bad, because I otherwise like this outfit.  The dress (Suzy Chin for Maggy Boutique via Ideeli) really is comfortable.  And I love the polka dot tights (Spanx Sheers via Nordstrom) and slouchy boots (Naughty Monkey via Nordstrom) with it.  I just worry about that swath of red fabric across the chest, especially coupled with the lower neckline.

But, oh, well.  Done is done.  And no one has actually said “Oh, hey there, Boobs” to me, so I’m going to say it’s fine.  At least for now.

Happy Thursday, All!

Eighties Town

As I mentioned in my WeeCap, I had a bit of an 80s moment while thrifting with Kelsey.   I think I was still in the throes of that moment when I put this outfit together this morning:

Does it feel a bit 80s to you?  Because it feels a bit 80s to me.  Maybe it’s because my skirt (vintage, thrifted) photographed neon red, or because I paired my bright-ass skirt with a bright-ass sweater (Old Navy).  Or maybe it’s the black; maybe it’s the turtleneck (Gap), tights (Spanx via Nordstrom) and boots (Naughty Monkey via Nordstrom) that push it into Eighties Town

Not that I’m saying Eighties Town is a bad place to be.  I probably wouldn’t live here, but I think it’s become obvious that I like to visit periodically.  Like today.  Today I am visiting Eighties Town and I’m enjoying the scenery.

Happy Tuesday, All!

I Am Not a Genius

I only mention this because when I left the house this morning, I thought I might, in fact, be a genius.  My skirt today is slightly too big for me and I thought it would be smart to safety pin the waist of my skirt to the waist of my tights so it didn’t fall down.  As you can see, it didn’t fall down:

So, yes, I thought I was pretty smart.  But, as it turns out, I’m not smart enough to figure out how to use the restroom when I’ve pinned my skirt to my tights.  I’m so used to pulling my tights down and my skirt up that when I went to use the restroom and I couldn’t do that because they were pinned together, I was absolutely stymied.  Stymied, I tell you.  I actually ended up unpinning the skirt from the tights before I could go.  And it wasn’t until my second trip to the restroom that I realized I could just pull them both down.  Did I mention that I am not a genius?

Thank goodness I can take solace in my outfit.  It’s perfect for our increasingly cold but still sunny weather.  I wore a vintage pleated skirt (thrifted) over black tights (Spanx Tight End Tights via Nordstrom), a cream cashmere sweater (Forte via Ideeli) over a black turtleneck and black suede boots (Naughty Monkey via Nordstrom).  I added gloves and a cashmere scarf for the ride in and was a comfy, cozy non-genius all day.

Happy Tuesday, All!
