Kitschy Print #17

This dress is just further evidence that I love myself a kitschy print:

I feel justified with this one because I swear more than one fashion magazine said tropical prints were in.  So, I’m totally fashion-forward with this.  Not buying it?  Fine, I just like kitschy prints.  Today’s was thrifted and hemmed by yours truly.  Before I hemmed it, the dress was that awkward length between a midi and a maxi and it was a lot of kitsch, even for me.  Now, it’s just the perfect amount.

I paired the dress with a coral belt (Steven Madden via Ross) because I’ve decided to wear this belt with everything this summer.  And I added pewter sandals (Lovely People via Ideeli) instead of heels to keep the beach-y feel of the dress and because my tootsies still hurt from my night of wild 80s dancing on Friday.

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend and a happy Monday!

Floranimal and Pleats

I’m pretty much obsessed with this floranimal (floral & animal = floranimal) blouse:

I know it’s kitschy as all heck; but I’m pretty sure that’s why I like it.  That and because it lends itself to made up words, like floranimal.  Anybody who knows me knows two things I like are kitschy prints and made up words.

Today I paired my floranimal blouse (vintage, thrifted) with a pleated skirt (thrifted) and animal print wedges (Tahari via DSW) because two other things I like are pleated skirts and mixing floranimal with animal.  I also added some gold bangles (Nordstrom), a patent belt (Steve Madden via Ross) and earrings (Nikki Jacoby “Labyrinth”):

And that’s it for me.  I’m off early today because I’m going to the Black Keys concert tonight.  And I’m off tomorrow because I’m going to the Black Keys concert tonight.

Happy Monday, Everyone!

Eclectic Jungle

Folks?  I think this might be one of my favorite outfits ever.  Ever:

I mean, sure, it’s a lot, but I think that’s part of what I like about it.  Well, that and the fact that it includes a lot of my favorite pieces.  Take the blouse, for example; it’s kitschy and it makes me ridiculously happy.  The skirt, in spite of it’s tricky length, is also one of my favorites.  And the blazer, which is new to my closet, was love at first sight.  It looks like polka dots in these photos, but they're actually diamonds:

And wearing these pieces all together?  I’m not sure it could get any better.  I especially like that I was able to winterize the blouse (vintage, thrifted) and this skirt (vintage, thrifted) with the addition of the blazer (vintage 80s Ann Taylor, thrifted).  I wore both the blouse and the skirt quite a few times last summer, but they’re very lightweight.  Adding the blazer and the tights (Spanx) definitely made them comfortable for winter.  And I added oxblood pumps (Naya “Jada” via Nordstrom), just because.

I also added my vintage lion earrings even though we all know lions don’t live in the jungle (they live in the Serengeti):

And some bangles:

Oh, and my owl belt snuck in there too, but I forgot to get a picture.

All in all, I’m not sure that this should work and I’m not even sure it did work, but I know I love it.

Happy Wednesday, All!

Bananarama

As it turns out, I really love kitschy prints.  Like the one on this dress:

Why, yes, those are bananas.  And palm fronds.  And what are either red bunches of coconuts or yet another made up flower.  And yes, I do love this dress in all of its kitschy glory.  So, I’ve finally decided to admit what I'm sure we've all long suspected: I Love Kitsch.  I might even make a bumper sticker to that effect, that’s how much I love it.

This dress is vintage (via Billy Goat Vintage in Portland) and, as I think I made abundantly clear, I think it’s fabulous.  I paired it with a white belt (thrifted) to try to reign in some of the volume, mushroom platforms (Bamboo via TJ Maxx) to add a little modernity and multicolored bangles (thrifted) because I can’t help myself.

I hope everyone had a lovely Fourth of July and that no one is having a cruel, (cruel), cruel summer.*  (Wow, talk about words losing meaning – I don’t think I’ll ever be able to type “cruel” again; that is one strange word).

Happy Tuesday, Everyone!
