This dress is just further evidence that I love myself a
kitschy print:
I feel justified with this one because I swear more than one
fashion magazine said tropical prints were in.
So, I’m totally fashion-forward with this. Not buying it? Fine, I just like kitschy prints. Today’s was thrifted and hemmed by yours truly. Before I hemmed it, the dress was that
awkward length between a midi and a maxi and it was a lot of kitsch, even for
me. Now, it’s just the perfect amount.
I paired the dress with a coral belt (Steven Madden via
Ross) because I’ve decided to wear this belt with everything this summer. And I added pewter sandals (Lovely People via
Ideeli) instead of heels to keep the beach-y feel of the dress and because my
tootsies still hurt from my night of wild 80s dancing on Friday.
I hope everyone had a lovely weekend and a happy Monday!

I had not seen your post when I published mine today, but I asked my readers what they would wear in a tiki hut on a tropical beach. I think your outfit would fit right in :) I need to keep your hemming strategy in mind the next time I'm at the thrift store. It's a cute dress!
ReplyDeleteMe being, well, me, I would have sliced off the sleeves as well. I'm such a nut about sleeves. I can't stand how they feel when they're that length! Anyway, it's totally cute and REALLY makes me want to go for a swim.

I am wearing *my* coral belt from Target with everything lately. Peeps probably wonder if I'm a poor homeless belt-less person :P
ReplyDeleteMadly in love with your shoes. Madly.
I love it! You look adorable... and the new length looks perfect. And I wouldn't say the print is kitschy at all.
ReplyDeleteThe tropical print is definitely back in & I'm glad because I found a few super cute topical print dresses that my mom wore in the 70s. Can't wait to wear them this summer.

ReplyDeleteI love a kitchy print as well. I thrifted one that's a tropical sunset just waiting for the perfect occasion.
ReplyDeleteI need to get my butt in gear and hem up some of my "almost perfect" thrift finds. I'm super-inspired! You did a great job!

ReplyDeleteI've also noticed that tropical prints are a trend.I don't own anything but I would bring it home myself.I bet it's totally transformed after the hemming.
ReplyDeleteI sure do love a good tropical print, Gracey! And this dress looks just fantastic on you and I'd wear it in a heartbeat. Way to see the potential in it :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing what a simple hem job can do for a dress! I love the print -- it looks like it features the famed Royal Hawaiian hotel, which makes it even more awesomely kitschy. :)

Great print! I also love a little kitsch. I recently bought some fabric to make a dress, because it reminded me of a tiki party.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I love this print. I love this dress. I love your smile!!

I love this dress a lot, and I can see exactly why you shortened it; that totally updates it. (I suffer from that awkward not-midi-not-maxi problem a LOT.)
ReplyDeleteYour 80s prom looked amazing. My real-time 80s prom was not nearly so cool. :)
SO glad that the weather is coming around so that we can wear fun dresses like this again!
