Shirt Dresses Are Easy

It's true you know, shirt dresses are easy:

Kinda like Earth girls.

But, really, just add a belt and shoes and you're set:

Not that all shirt dresses (or aliens (have you seen Jeff Goldblum in that movie???)) are equal.  Some shirt dresses have pockets:

Dress: thrifted (similar sleeveless) (with sleeves)
Belt: thrifted (similar)  Sandals: Kork-Ease (similar)

In my opinion, pocketed shirt dresses are the best shirt dresses.  And Jeff Goldblum aliens are the sexiest best aliens.

Happy Thursday, All!

Inspiration Monday: home

Today is Inspiration Monday over at Two Birds.  Here is the inspiration photo:

Emma Stone

And here is my look:

Jacket: vintage, thrifted  Tee: Homeland Tees  Scarf: Gifted
Jeans: Gap  Boots: Macy's

I've been extraordinarily homesick lately so I've been wearing my home tee a lot.  Like a lot:

It has an outline of the state of Oregon on it and says "home."  It makes me perversely happy to wear it here in Pennsylvania as I still am unable to view PA as my home.  Perhaps eventually, but not yet.

Of course, I don't know if Emma is wearing a home tee (probably not, poor girl), but I think the rest of my look is fairly close:

Gray jacket, pale scarf, jeans and boots. Yep, we're practically twins.

Happy Monday, All!  And thank you to Two Birds for the inspiration and for the link party!

Safari So Good

The print on this dress delights me to no end:

I mean, what is more perfect for summer than a tropical safari print?  That’s right, nothing.

When I thrifted this dress the other day, I couldn’t wait to wear it.  I love the print, I love the cut and I love the pockets:

Pockets!!

Best of all though, this dress provides the perfect frame for my new “Alegro” name necklace courtesy of Onecklace:

I actually love this necklace.  I wasn't sure that I would as I tend to go with heavier jewelry, but this delicate piece is perfect for summer.  And it’s honestly just really pretty.  I've worn it repeatedly since receiving it.

If you’re interested in an honestly pretty name necklace of your own, or earrings, or a bracelet or any of those with initials instead of your name, head on over to Onecklace.  They have a huge selection of beautiful items and you can get 10% of your order with the code GIANTS10.

Happy Friday, All!

What Really Goes On

Most of my readers are used to seeing me look like this in photos:

I’m usually smiling, because I like smiling, but also because I think blogging is fun.  I’m usually front to camera because I like to clearly show the outfit I’m wearing.  And I usually have my arms at my sides or have a hand on a hip because I can’t ever figure out what else to do with my hands.  (Moment of clarity: I bet that’s why bloggers carry clutches.  Now I get it.)

But, I think I owe it to you, Dearest Reader Friends, to show you what the other 40 pictures that I don’t post look like.  To show you what really goes on.  Which, more often than not, is stuff like this:

I am pretty much always talking and often gesticulating.  In the above photo I’m demonstrating how it was so cold this morning that I had to break the ice on my horse’s trough.  I don’t have a horse.

And this:

And, in that photo I am expressing confusion over my friend, Ferge’s, confusion about today’s color combination.

I think flame cords (Target) and a lavender button-down (Gap via Goodwill) make perfect sense.  Ferge does not.  At least she didn’t criticize the houndstooth shoes (Old Navy via Goodwill) though.  But, really, who would criticize houndstooth shoes?  They so very clearly go with everything.

ETA: Although I don't consider my pants confusing, I'll admit that they're bright, so I've linked up to Visible Monday over at Not Dead Yet Style, hosted, as always, by the lovely Patti.

Happy Monday, Everyone!

Feeling My Way

You will probably not be surprised to learn that I have no idea what I’m doing when it comes to dressing myself.  I mean, I’ve figured out buttons and zippers pretty well, but figuring out what combination of items to button or zipper onto my body is a struggle.  For example, I’m just wearing a dress today, but went through three or four iterations of accessories before landing on this:

The dress (Target) actually used to have a greige skirt (you can see it here), but I dyed it because I don’t like greige.  The accessories I finally settled on are a tri-color belt (thrifted), red-orange beaded necklace (street fair) and leopard peep-toe mini wedges.  But, seriously, it was a struggle even though the dress just pulls on!

I don’t know why selecting clothes is so much work for me.  I don’t know if it’s because my closet is too big (possibly), or maybe it’s too small (less probable).  Or, maybe it’s because I don’t have a clearly defined style.  I think if I just decided that “boho chic” was my thing and didn’t purchase or wear anything that didn’t meet that aesthetic that getting dressed might be easier.  Instead I have Personal Style ADD, dressing one day in all neutrals and the next in three different patterns and four different colors.  For example, here are last week’s looks (note the lack of a cohesive theme):

Now, I don’t think any of you who read my blog are under the delusion that you’re reading the blog of a fabulously put together blogger.  But, if you are, I apologize for bursting your bubble.  In truth, I’m just feeling my way along, tossing a bunch of stuff on the bed and seeing what sticks.  For those of you who suspected that was my preferred methodology, you were right, and I appreciate you sticking around in spite of that.

Happy Wednesday, Everyone!

Lavender, Lemon and a Bee Attack

Y’all, I was totally attacked by a bee today.  Okay, he was probably just flying by, but I reacted like it was an attack by ducking and squealing and then laughing.  You know; as one does:

Not to worry though, I got it together enough to take pictures.  Sort of:

Like yesterday’s color combination of tomato and violet, today’s combination is one I’ve wanted to try for sometime.  Specifically, since the EBEW Pastels Challenge in which my lovely friend, Ana of She’s Addicted to Clothes, paired lavender and yellow.

My lavender and lemon pairing involves a thrifted lavender eyelet dress and a lemon-yellow cardigan (Target).  I added a multi-colored belt (thrifted) which allowed me to sneak in navy platform sandals (MRKT via DSW) and rust red earrings because I like to ground my pastels with non-pastels.

Is there a word for non-pastels?  I'm sure there is.  Does anyone know what it is?

Happy Wednesday, All!  Watch out for bees!
