A Whole Lotta Plum

Today's outfit features a whole lotta plum:

And a tiny bit of turquoise.

Oh, I could have scared up some plum earrings and gone head-to-toe plum, but, as we all know, when in doubt, I choose turquoise:

Blouse & Pant: LOFT
Earrings: gifted (similar)  Shoes: Franco Sarto

It's just how I roll.

Cropped & Striped

I'm wearing a cropped jacket with my cropped pants today:

Of course, the jacket isn't just cropped:

It's cropped and striped.

The pants, though, are just cropped:

Jacket: vintage silk  Pants: LOFT (similar
Blouse: Banana Republic Factory (similar)  Shoes: Steve Madden (similar)

I know, I know, I'm disappointed in their lack of stripes as well.

A Spot of Leopard

Today's outfit is plum, navy, orchid, and a spot of leopard:

I thought about plum shoes, but I really like the contrast of the animal print with the berry tones:

Also, it's fun to say I'm wearing "a spot of leopard":

Jacket: thrifted  Blouse: LOFT (similar)
Pants: LOFT  Belt: LOFT (similar)  Shoes: Nine West (similar)

Better Shiny Than Sorry

I have a lot of cropped pants in my closet.  And a lot of stripes.  So, I figured I'd wear them together:

With a little bit of shine to keep my neutral outfit from being too boring:

Just kidding.  There is no way a waist this high is boring.  It's just flat out glorious.  And stripes aren't boring either.  They're classic.  And awesome.

But, still, you can't go wrong with a little shine:

Shirt: old LOFT (similar)  Pants: Ann Taylor
Necklace: Piperlime (similar)  Belt: LOFT (similar)  Sandals: Isola 'Lisinda'

Because, you know what they say, "Better shiny than sorry."  And if they don't say that, they should.

Going Wide

As I mentioned on my post over at Already Pretty last Sunday, one trend I'm super excited for this season is wide-leg pants.  I've been thrifting culottes for years, but it's still nice to see a bigger selection of wide legs in the regular retail world.  Wide legs like this pair here:

I love these pants.  I know they aren't very flattering and that the cropped length with the high waist is an unusual silhouette, but I like that about them.

That's right; I like that they aren't very flattering.  Because, some days, I don't care to have my figure flattered.  Some days, I just like to wear weird shit.  You know, to confound the natives.

Now, is this outfit actually that weird?  I don't think so.  I think what it actually is, is very specific.  The silhouette of the pants, the cut of the shoes, the blobby print of the blouse:

Yes, blobby is the technical term.

And yes, it it all makes for a very specific look.  And yes, sometimes the natives mistake specific for weird.  And no, I don't care.

Blouse: LOFT (similar)  Pants: Ann Taylor
Belt: v. old Macy's (similar)  Shoes: Summit White Mountain "Brinley"

Because, I'll tell you what, Reader Friends.  I am here for the wide-leg silhouette.  One hundred percent.

Feeling Plummy

I was feeling rather plummy the other day:

And yes, it's too cold for open-toed shoes.  But, as I'm sure you know, when you're feeling plummy, that feeling doesn't end at your feet.

So, of course I had to pair my plum pants with plum shoes:

I also added a sweater that doesn't match, but goes really really well:

And then there's the scarf; I don't think it contains the color of the pants or the sweater, but it still serves to tie the two together:

Pants: LOFT  Sweater: LOFT
Scarf: sister gifted (similar)  Shoes: Franco Sarto (similar)

Prints are just the best for that, aren't they?

Literary Stylings # 22: Transmission

As I said last week, I really, really enjoyed reading two books last month; Child 44 and Transmission.  However, I went with Transmission for my inspiration because Child 44 takes place during the Russian winter and it's entirely too hot to pull out the furs.

Transmission, on the other hand, takes place, at least for a bit, in India:

In fact, two of the main characters, Arjun, an American-bound computer geek, and Leela, Bollywood's latest "it girl" are Indian.  And even when these two leave their homelands to write code in America or make movies in Scotland, India is still referenced.

And that's what I tried to do with this outfit.  I tried to reference India:

Although, to be fair, the print on the dress isn't really Indian, but more Far Eastern:

Still, a girl does what she can when inspired by literature.  And what I could do was this:

Dress: thrifted (similar, similar plain)  Pants: LOFT (save, splurge)
Shoes: FRYE (similar)  Necklace: Sole Society (similar)

What about you, Reader Friends?  Were you sartorially inspired by any literature last month?  If so, please link your looks up below!

Printed and Vested

Eventually I'll stop wearing these olive sandals with everything:

But, not today, folks.  Not today.

Nope.  Today I'm wearing them with my new printed pants and a vest:

In my defense, they just seem to go with everything I'm wearing this summer.

I mean, just look how well they go with these pants:

Hmm.  Or maybe it's these pants that go with everything.  They're perfect with olive sandals and a navy vest:

Or is it the vest that goes with everything?

You know what?  I've decided that everything goes with everything else and that's why this outfit works:

Vest: Topshop via Nordstrom (more colors)  Pants: LOFT
Necklace: Modcloth (similar)  Sandals: FRYE (similar, vegan)

Yep, that's the key.  Everything goes with everything.

All The Volume

I try to avoid tight-fitting clothes during the summer, especially here in Pittsburgh where the humidity is so high we have thunderstorms nearly every afternoon.  Instead, I reach for loose-fitting pieces like these cropped pants:

And instead of offsetting their volume with a fitted top, I chose to wear a loose-fitting top as well:

Pants: LOFT  Top: Anthro  Sandals: Kork-Ease

Because, sometimes, I like to wear all the volume.

Pastels and Earth Tones

These colors probably shouldn't be paired together, but I did it anyway:

I mean, pastels and earth tones?  What was I thinking...

And yet, I swear this totally works:

Or not.  I'm not an expert on color combinations that make sense.  No, I'm better at those color combinations that make no sense at all.

Like pastels and earth tones together:

Pants: LOFT (similar)  Top: TJ Maxx (similar)
Cardigan: LOFT  Earrings: Modcloth, sold out (similar)
Shoes: FRYE (exact) (similar) (vegan option)

That's my specialty.
