Worth the Cold Toes

So, I apologize for my extended absence for the last week or so.  I went back to Oregon, and while the trip wasn't especially sudden, I also didn't bother to plan anything for the blog while I was gone, so, yeah.  Sorry about that.

But, I'm back now, and I'm wearing cute pants:

I'm also wearing sandals so my toes were cold most of the morning.  But, the weather got into the 70s this afternoon so my tootsies were just fine.

And thank goodness too because I love these sandals with these pants:

Pants: LOFT  Sandals: Steve Madden (similar)

This outfit is totally worth the cold toes.

A Whole Lotta Plum

Today's outfit features a whole lotta plum:

And a tiny bit of turquoise.

Oh, I could have scared up some plum earrings and gone head-to-toe plum, but, as we all know, when in doubt, I choose turquoise:

Blouse & Pant: LOFT
Earrings: gifted (similar)  Shoes: Franco Sarto

It's just how I roll.

All in the Family

This look isn't quite monochromatic, but all of the pieces are from the same color family:

The skirt is from Land's End and the cardigan is from Target.  And, to my eye, they look so perfect together, I can't believe I haven't worn this outfit before.

The skirts' more subtle pattern even compliments the the cardigan's bolder houndstooth:

As much as I like combining contrasting colors, this outfit makes me understand that (nearly) monochromatic looks can have just as much impact:

Skirt: Land's End (similar)  Boots: Born Crown "Sosie" (similar)

Blue Layers

Today I'm wearing layers of blue:

With a little black thrown in for edge.  Just kidding.  I'm wearing black tights because I like black tights.  There's no edge here.

There might be a little purple though.  Seriously, I think this scarf is actually shades of purple, not blue:

Or, maybe not.  Who knows?  I certainly don't.

But, I also don't care because I really, really love all of these pieces together:

From the possibly-purple scarf right down to the edgy black boots, this is one of my favorite outfits ever:

Sweater: Gap  Skirt: thrifted  Scarf: La Fiorentina via Bluefly
Earrings: Kate Spade NY (similar
Tights: SPANX   Boots: Franco Sarto "Eminent"

I guess what they (and by "they", I mean "I") say is true; blue layers are the best layers.

Not Burgundy and Red

Today's outfit looks like burgundy and red:

But, it's not.  I mean, yes, the skirt is red, but the sweater is not burgundy.  It's actually a blend of navy and red:

A blend that, from far away looks like burgundy.

Sweater: Banana Republic Skirt: thrifted vintage
Tights: Spanx  Boots: Splendid (similar)

Color is fun.

Pop of Non-Color

I'm not a big fan of white shoes.  They tend to remind me of nursing shoes.  Or, if they're sandals, of bandaged feet.  Or, if they're pumps, the 80s.  You know I love the 80s, but I never could get behind the brightly color-blocked outfits paired with white pumps.

But, what I can get behind are speckled white flats:

I just think they're more interesting than a black shoe would be with this outfit:

And more palatable, for my tastes, than a white pump would be:

Top: LOFT  Skirt: vintage, thrifted  Shoes: Steve Madden (savesplurge)

It's not that either of those choices wouldn't work, it just that I like these as my pop of non-color.

Back in Black

The temperature finally dropped some here in Oregon and I was like "yes, I'm wearing black.  And layers.  I'm wearing black layers!" because apparently I'm overly ready for fall.  Not that this outfit is remotely fall-like:

But, it is black and it's layers and I was thrilled to be wearing it.

Not least because I love the sort of boho chic vibe of the duster (actually just a button-front dress worn open) and the necklace:

Boho chic is one of those aesthetics that I love but that I don't do very well.  I'm afraid I'm a little more straight-laced than the  style requires.

Still, I think this is pretty close.  Or at least as close as I'm probably going to get:

And I'll take that.

Embrace the Gray

Oregon, being Oregon, only has summery weather approximately every fourth or fifth day.  Saturday was gorgeous, Sunday it rained like hell, yesterday was overcast and today is more of the same.  With some more rain thrown in because Oregon is ridiculous.  I don't have the strength to fight it, so I've decided to embrace the gray:

Literally.  I hugged each and every one of these pieces before I put them on.  The pieces being a gray sweater skirt (Macy's) with a gray sweater (JC Penney) and dark gray boots (Gap).  Yep, just gray on gray on gray.  But, I think the print on the skirt keeps it from being too dull.

Also, this sweater looks like a crop top on me.  It think it's a combination of my giant size and the fact that I shrunk it in the wash:

Thank goodness this skirt can be hiked up to make up for the possibly disastrous lack of sweater.

EBEW: Sequins and Sparkles

It’s Everybody, Everywear time, people!  And today that means sequins and sparkles.  Full disclosure, I’m not a fan of sequins for the daytime.  For me, it’s like leaving your Christmas lights up all year long; it saps some of the magic come Christmastime.  And daytime sparkle saps some of the magic come fancy-dress-time.  But, sometimes a girl needs to branch out so I gave today’s EBEW Challenge my best shot:

Given my reticence to wear any sequins during the day, you know there was no way I was going Full Sparkle.  Instead, I kept it minimal so it still felt like me.  To do so, I layered a sequin-striped t-shirt dress/tunic (Ross) over a black turtleneck (Gap) and black leggings (INC via Macy’s).  Over that I layered my oft-worn black sweater (Jones New York via Ross) and some black wedge booties (Nine West “Peekaboo” via Piperlime).

And I liked it.  It was warm, layered (What can I say?  I love the layers) and that bit of shine was sort of nice.  I wouldn’t say I’m a convert, but I am going to give daytime sequins another try next week, so maybe I’ll get there. And maybe I’ll leave my Christmas lights up year round too.  (FYI – this is sarcasm).

How about you, Dear Reader Friends?  Are you fans of sequins for day?  If you are and want more ideas on how to wear them (and probably on how to wear them more aggressively), stop by Everybody, Everywear and feast your eyes.  It’s sequintastic!

Happy Tuesday, All!
