A Whole Lotta Plum

Today's outfit features a whole lotta plum:

And a tiny bit of turquoise.

Oh, I could have scared up some plum earrings and gone head-to-toe plum, but, as we all know, when in doubt, I choose turquoise:

Blouse & Pant: LOFT
Earrings: gifted (similar)  Shoes: Franco Sarto

It's just how I roll.

A Spot of Leopard

Today's outfit is plum, navy, orchid, and a spot of leopard:

I thought about plum shoes, but I really like the contrast of the animal print with the berry tones:

Also, it's fun to say I'm wearing "a spot of leopard":

Aubergine and Ice

Ice blue, that is:

Now, we did have actual ice, and snow, over the weekend, but today is warmer.  Not actually warm, mind you, which is why I'm back in tights, but warmer for sure:

Warm enough for me to at least make the effort to incorporate a spring-y color like this ice blue into my outfit:

Even though it's April, we haven't had much in the way of spring weather here yet in Pittsburgh so I'm defaulting to my darker winter colors.  I mean, I want to wear pretty spring things but did I mention that it snowed on Friday?

Still, today's mix of aubergine and ice blue felt like a successful way to incorporate more spring-like colors into my still winter-y wardrobe:

Jacket: Gap (similar)  Blouse: LOFT (similar)
Skirt: Lands' End (similar) Boots: Franco Sarto "Eminent"

What about you, Reader Friends?  Are you well into spring or are you still mixing spring and winter pieces?

The Longline Vest

I love plum with navy.  (Okay, fine, I love everything with navy).  But, I wanted an extra layer because, well, it's cold.  So, I added this longline vest:

I think the ash gray offsets the jewel tones of the pants and sweater nicely:

But, mostly, I just have a thing for longline vests this season.  They'll never fully replace my beloved sweater vests in my heart, but they're definitely a welcome addition to my wardrobe.

They just make layering so easy:

Vest: Topshop via Nordstrom (sold out, similar here)  Sweater: Gap
Pants: Gap  Watch: gifted Fossil Q Grant  Shoes: Bettye Bettye Muller (similar)

And for my money, easy is good. Especially in winter when I want to call in just because it's cold.

Feeling Plummy

I was feeling rather plummy the other day:

And yes, it's too cold for open-toed shoes.  But, as I'm sure you know, when you're feeling plummy, that feeling doesn't end at your feet.

So, of course I had to pair my plum pants with plum shoes:

I also added a sweater that doesn't match, but goes really really well:

And then there's the scarf; I don't think it contains the color of the pants or the sweater, but it still serves to tie the two together:

Prints are just the best for that, aren't they?

Plum Dotty

Even though it's back to being hot and humid here in the afternoons, you can definitely feel the difference in the air.  Especially in the mornings when it's actually cool enough to warrant pants.

I know.  Pants, people!  Pants!

Plum pants, in fact.  Paired with a dotty, collared top from LTS:

Oh, and because I like to rhyme my clothes, I added some (leopard) spots to go with my dots:

Long Tall Houndstooth

This past week or so has been surprisingly, delightfully cool here in Pittsburgh.  So, I took the opportunity to break out a couple of fall items early.  Like these houndstooth skinny jeans:

Blouse: LOFT (similar)  Jeans: c/o Long Tall Sally
Sandals: Steve Madden (similar under $30!)

These jeans are part of the Fall Collection over at Long Tall Sally.  And those fine folks were kind enough to send me a pair to try.

And I'm so happy they did.  I love the plummy color:

And I love the 90s-vibe they have.  I'm kind of excited that the 90s are back in play this fall.  The fashion wasn't as fun as the 80s, but there was a lot of houndstooth.

You can't go wrong with a lot of houndstooth.

Big Ol' Blogger

I took a bit of a risk with this outfit, pairing a voluminous cape with a voluminous circle skirt:

The prevailing logic is that you're supposed to pair bulky pieces with slim pieces, but, I just didn't feel like it.  I wanted to wear my big ol' cape with a big ol' skirt and I didn't give a heck if it made me look like a big ol' blogger.

And, honestly, I just don't think it's that bad.  I felt great in this outfit.

With or without the cape, this outfit is just right up my sartorial alley:

I mean, it's a vintage circle skirt, a vintage cape and a turtleneck:

Cape: vintage, thrifted (save, splurge)  Turtleneck: LL Bean, thrifted (similar)
Belt: Michael Kors (similar)   Skirt: vintage, thrifted (similar)
Boots: Sole Society

So, yeah, if this is what a big ol' blogger looks like, I'll be that.  I'll be that all day long.

Seven Bucks

It's started being snowy in earnest here in PA so thank goodness for this giant mustard sweater:

Seriously, this thing is too big for even me and not terribly flattering, but I promise you that it's warm as heck and therefore totally worth it.  Not that I paid a lot of it; I think it was about $7 at Goodwill.

Not bad for seven bucks, eh?

Sweater: handmade, thrifted  Jeans: Old Navy
Scarf: LOFT  Boots: SOREL Tivoli High II

Nope, not bad at all.

Embellished and Olive

I'm sad to say that this outfit is not an original idea:

Sweatshirt: LOFT (similar)  Vest: Old Navy (similar)
Scarf: Gifted (similar)  Jeans: Old Navy
Boots: Born Crown "Sosie" (similar)

Nope.  Not original.  In fact, brazenly ripped off from this Pin:

Image via Pinterest

As you can see, my outfit is less seasonally confused (Tulips and layers?  And is that snow on the ground? What is going on here?!) than the original, but it's basically the same.

Well, almost.  My outfit is also considerably less blinged-out than the original, but I like the colored jewels on this sweatshirt.  Especially with the claret color of the scarf:

Now if only I can get that Louis Vuitton bag...

SIA: Erte: NEC

Today I'm participating in the SIA (Style Imitating Art) Challenge.  Here is the piece of art, as chosen by Salazar, of 14 Shades of Grey:

It is Spring Rain, by Erté.

And here is my interpretation:

It is, sadly, NEC (Not Even Close).

I really, really wanted to participate this week because I love the inspiration picture & I hadn't participated in awhile.  But, when I was going through my closet trying to put something together, I realized that I don't have any lavender (I settled for plum) and I only own two pieces in green and they are bright green and otherwise all wrong.

So, I went with what I had.  Navy, plum and aqua.  And orange.  Of course I had orange!

Skirt & Blouse: thrifted, vintage  Sweater: Target  Belt: LOFT  Shoes: Seychelles

I have to admit that I was pretty down about my outfit being NEC, but then I spent a couple hours with Jen from Librarian for Life and Style and she made it all better!

Thanks, Jen!  And thank you, Salazar, for hosting SIA this week!
