Early today I posted an outfit featuring these houndstooth skinny jeans from Long Tall Sally:
In case you missed that post, here's a brief synopsis: these jeans are very 90s and I love them.
But, they're not the only piece from the Fall Collection I love, so I thought I'd use today's Five for Friday to share five more pieces I'm thinking about adding to my closet this fall:
1. Herringbone Flippy Dress: Maybe it's seeing all the cardinals in the snow out here, but I just love red dresses for winter. This one is sleeveless for easy layering and looks like it'd be flattering as heck on most anyone.
2. BFT "Garnet" Paneled Loafer: I have a thing for two-toned shoes. And I love the classic black-and-white combination of these. And I love that they're loafers (I think I'm getting preppy in my old age). The best part though is that because these are Barefoot Tess, they are offered up to size 15. I know!!
3. Chalky Check Maxi Skirt: As I said in my outfit post, I am pretty excited that the 90s are back for fall. And this skirt has a great grungy, 90s feel to it. I want to wear it with an oversized sweater and big boots.
4. Supersoft Jeggings: I actually have these jeggings; they were in the package LTS sent me to try and they are my favorite ever. They really are super soft and have that nice, high waist that I love. They come in the deep olive/forest color shown above, but also in a great rust color. I think I need them in both...
5. Fleece Lined Tights: One of the hardest things, for me, about being tall is that I can't wear really the great tights. The fun patterns, sweater tights and so-very-necessary-in-Pennsylvania-in-the-winter fleece-line tights are generally too small/short for my tights-loving giant self. But, this winter, I will finally be warm thanks to these fleece-lined tights for tall women! I will be buying multiple pairs.
Happy Friday!

Long Tall Houndstooth
This past week or so has been surprisingly, delightfully cool here in Pittsburgh. So, I took the opportunity to break out a couple of fall items early. Like these houndstooth skinny jeans:
These jeans are part of the Fall Collection over at Long Tall Sally. And those fine folks were kind enough to send me a pair to try.
And I'm so happy they did. I love the plummy color:
And I love the 90s-vibe they have. I'm kind of excited that the 90s are back in play this fall. The fashion wasn't as fun as the 80s, but there was a lot of houndstooth.
You can't go wrong with a lot of houndstooth.
Happy Friday, All!

Apricot Sherbet
I am not actually sure what color this sweater is. Here it's a sort of orange sherbet hue:
But, here it's a bit darker and more apricot, I think:
So it's... apricot sherbet? Is that a thing? It should be, it sounds delicious.
And it looks good with houndstooth.
Happy Tuesday, All!

#dearsally Holiday Wish List
I'm not currently working here in Pennsylvania, so I have a lot of spare time on my hands. As a result, I've been doing a lot of reading, sleeping in and virtual window shopping. As sad as I am to give up actual shopping because, well, no job (and really no need for clothes, if I'm honest), window shopping is pretty fun.
Especially at Long Tall Sally. It is truly wonderful to see an item and know that it will, in fact, be long enough in the arms. No more scrutinizing the model to see if maybe, just maybe, those ankle-length pants will be ankle-length and not mid-calf. It's heavenly, I tell you, heavenly.
Here are some of my favorite pieces:

Here are some of my favorite pieces:
Because I'm an optimist (and I enjoy cat sweaters), I've created both a Workday Wishlist and a Weekend Wishlist.
On my Workday Wishlist I have an appropriately aloof cat sweater, a plaid skirt and an A-line midi, as well as tights and double-zip ankle boots. I selected two skirts because I'm not sure how conservative my new work place will be and, because I think they're both fabulous with this sweater.
And on my Weekend Wishlist, I have an awesome mixed media, gradient houndstooth sweater coat, that I'd wear over either a black over-sized sweater or a cream sweater dress. And I added heavy jersey leggings, waterproof boots and leather gloves that will actually fit my giant hands (I know!). These pieces would be fabulous for cold days spent exploring Pittsburgh.
What about you, Reader Friends? What's on your holiday wishlist?
Happy Monday, All!

Houndstooth for the Holidays
Remember last week when I talked about how impressed I was
with Foxcroft’s new prints? Well, I’m
wearing another Foxcroft print today, and let me just tell you, I’m still
impressed:
It’s a little 80s, a little 90s and lot wonderful:
I love a big, bold print and this black and yellow
houndstooth is just that. Like the
vintage royal print, this print has a throwback vibe that I’m absolutely
loving.
It’s a little 80s, a little 90s and lot wonderful:
![]() |
| Blouse: c/o Foxcroft Skirt: Old Navy (similar longer) Tights: Spanx Boots: Splendid (similar) |
Patterned shirts like this one are on Foxcroft’s Holiday Checklist as a
must-have for the holiday closet and, I must say, I couldn't agree
more. Printed shirts are just so versatile. Today I paired it with a simple skirt and
tights:
But it’s also the perfect layering piece to add color,
interest and throwback flare to winter outfits.
In fact, I'd say there is really only one con about this blouse. And that is that the blouse's wrinkle-free crispness tends to highlight the fact
that I should have ironed my wrinkle-full skirt but didn't because I prefer sleeping in to ironing. It is otherwise perfect.
Also pretty perfect are the rest of Foxcroft's holiday must-haves; you can see the rest of the Holiday Checklist here.

Hot Pink & Houndstooth
There is something about this navy houndstooth skirt that makes me want to pair it with the brightest brights. Last time it was chartreuse. This time, it's hot pink:
And I do mean hot pink. It's basically neon in the right light:
But, it's also silk and it was thrifted and so was the skirt, so, aside from the shoes, this outfit cost me next to nothing. Pretty good for next to nothing, huh?

Teeth
I thrifted the best t-shirt a couple of months ago but it took me forever to wear it. It's just so good, I wasn't sure what to wear with it. But, I finally figured it out:
And yes, it did take me forever to figure out what goes best with teeth is... more teeth:
I know, right? Shark tooth + houndstooth = obviously awesome:
At least in my book.
Seriously, I loved this outfit. The tee makes me unreasonably happy, as does the randomly-fringed 80s skirt:
Put them together and this outfit is the whole reason I shop at second-hand stores; I can get an outfit I love for about $10. Which is why I'm linking up with Citizen Rosebud for #SECONDHANDFIRST.

Prim and Proper and Bright
At it's core, this outfit is prim and proper. It's a pleated skirt, a sweater and cap-toe shoes. But, that sweater? Yeah, it's bright chartreuse:
I think it's fun to wear brights in an outfit like this. Adding unexpected color to an otherwise classic silhouette is a good way to keep it feeling like me.
I did the same thing with my jewelry, wearing studs and a chunky necklace, but, once again, the studs are a bright chartreuse:
So, yes, this look is a bit prim and proper, but it's also bright, just the way I like it:

Pink and Plum
The easiest way I've found to pair printed items with something in a color is to use the color palette in the prints themselves. For example, today's houndstooth cardigan is hot pink and plum:
I think a lot of people default to pairing prints with black, or with jeans, instead of with color because they aren't sure what color to pull out of the printed piece. It's not that deep; just pick a color and it'll be fine. I could have easily paired this cardigan with a hot pink skirt, but I don't have a hot pink skirt, I have a plum skirt, so that's what I wore:
And see? It turned out fine.

eShakti Fall
If you follow me on Pinterest, you may have noticed that I spent part of last night Pinning the heck out of eShakti's new Fall line. Because it is gorgeous. Seriously, have you seen it? I want everything!
But, as I don't have the money for everything, here's a few of my very favorite pieces.
Cowl Neck Sweater
The color of this sweater just slays me.
Gradient Houndstooth
This is dress combines a very cool, very modern gradient houndstooth print with a vintage style dress. I love that.
Plaid Perfection
I told you I was mad for plaid and this skirt is plaid perfection.
More Houndstooth
Because you can never have enough.
Giraffes
Okay, this one isn't from their Fall line, but I think we can all agree that giraffes are great all year round.
If you're in the mood for some giraffes, or houndstooth, or plaid, head on over to eShakti. This weekend you can get free shipping. And, if you're a new customer, you can get a $30 new customer gift coupon by using the code GRACEY53PH. That code is valid through November 30th.
I hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend!

Houndstooth and Harlequin
Today I've paired houndstooth with harlequin:
And, frankly, I'm surprised it took me this long to put these two together.
The houndstooth blouse (thrifted Jones New York, similar) is a natural fit with the harlequin sweater vest (thrifted vintage JG Hook, similar). Thank goodness I found these two hanging out together in my closet or this may never have happened:
Can you imagine??!!
Really though, though, those two did the hard work. I just added a midi skirt (thrifted vintage, similar), tights (Spanx Tight End Tights) and ankle boots (Nine West "Darsy"). Oh, and my new favoritetiger diadem necklace (Hive and Honey via Piperlime):
It's not my fault it goes with everything.
Happy Tuesday, All!

Triangulated
It's rare that I wear an outfit completely devoid of color, but today's is. And it's actually one of my favorites:
I love the cut of the dress and the clever little triangle print. And I like that I can wear houndstooth with it because houndstooth makes everything better.
Also making the world a better place? Pockets:
Man, I love me some pockets.

Getting Dressed Can Be Fun
Sometimes I can’t find anything to wear. Or, perhaps I should say that I can’t find anything that I
want to wear. This has been the case for the past couple weeks.
Sure, I get dressed, but I’ve mostly just been phoning it in with
uninspired color combinations and my usual half-assed accessorizing.
When this happens, I try to wear something that
helps remind me that getting dressed can be fun. Today’s outfit is
just such a reminder:
This outfit is fun:
It’s plaid (men’s vintage golf pants) and
houndstooth (vintage via Vintage by the Pound) together. As they were
meant to be. And it’s layers of bracelets and big, chunky necklaces.
The red necklace is made from vintage African beads
& brass (gifted) and the other is a silver & turquoise squash
blossom necklace (vintage via Lil’ Gypsy Vintage).
They are very heavy together, just in case you were curious.
But, they are also awesome together. And they are
awesome with the houndstooth and the houndstooth is awesome with the
plaid. And it’s basically an outfit made of awesome:
The best part, though, is that it combines two of
my current trend obsessions. Printed suits (yes, I know it’s not a
suit, but I feel like we can all pretend it is and still sleep at night)
and global/boho chic. Really, the only thing
I’d change is the shoes. I love these sandals (old Banana Republic
“Natalie”) but I think this outfit could take a bolder shoe. I was
afraid a different shoe would be too much, but now I don’t think so.
I’ll definitely try something different next time.
What about you, Reader Friends? Do you get in style ruts? What do you do to remind yourself that getting dressed can be fun?

What Really Goes On
Most of my readers are used to seeing me look like this in
photos:
I’m usually smiling, because I like smiling, but also
because I think blogging is fun. I’m
usually front to camera because I like to clearly show the outfit I’m
wearing. And I usually have my arms at my
sides or have a hand on a hip because I can’t ever figure out what else to do
with my hands. (Moment of clarity: I bet
that’s why bloggers carry clutches. Now I get it.)
But, I think I owe it to you, Dearest Reader Friends, to
show you what the other 40 pictures that I don’t
post look like. To show you what really
goes on. Which, more often than not, is
stuff like this:
I am pretty much always talking and often
gesticulating. In the above photo I’m
demonstrating how it was so cold this morning that I had to break the ice on my
horse’s trough. I don’t have a horse.
And this:
And, in that photo
I am expressing confusion over my friend, Ferge’s, confusion about today’s color
combination.
I think flame cords (Target) and a lavender button-down (Gap
via Goodwill) make perfect sense. Ferge
does not. At least she didn’t criticize
the houndstooth shoes (Old Navy via Goodwill) though. But, really, who would criticize houndstooth
shoes? They so very clearly go with everything.
ETA: Although I don't consider my pants confusing, I'll admit that they're bright, so I've linked up to Visible Monday over at Not Dead Yet Style, hosted, as always, by the lovely Patti.
