Maximum Swanning

It was very, very cold here today.  But, rather than complain, I decided to layer:

Specifically, I layered my LTS cape over a striped shirt and belted the whole thing with a studded belt:

All paired with a vintage skirt, tights and riding boots:

Cape: c/o Long Tall Sally  (similar)  Shirt: Gap
Belt: old Michael Michael Kors  Skirt: thrifted vintage (similar)  Boots: gifted (similar)

So, no, no complaining from me today.  Just maximum swanning.

Happy Wednesday, All!

New Year, New Cape

I think it's best to start a new year in something dramatic.  Like a cape:

It lets people know that you're not afraid to bring the drama to the office.  Belting your cape with a seriously studded belt also helps to hammer that point home:

Still not enough drama for you?  Try swanning about in your cape.  Nothing says drama like some swanning.  And trust me, in this Long Tall Sally cape, you can't help but swan:

The fabric drapes so beautifully and flows so nicely when you walk.  It's wind-in-the-cape instead of wind-in-the-hair, but I still feel like Tyra would be proud.

Seriously, Folks.  Capes.  I think they might become a thing:

Cape: c/o LTS  Turtleneck: Gap (similar)
Skirt: thrifted (similar) Belt: MICHAEL Michael Kors (similar)
Boots: Born Crown "Sosie" (similar)

At least I hope so.

Happy Monday, All!  And Happy New Year!

10/16/2015 Five for Friday: Ponchos

Ponchos started trending (again) heavily last fall, and they're back with a vengeance this year.  And, I, for one, am not complaining.  They're an easy, versatile piece (see styling tips at YLF), especially for fall.  Or, if you're lucky enough to have mild winters, they'll work all winter long.

Here are five of my current favorites:

1. Gap Stripe Poncho: I love the neutral colors of this poncho; it makes it easy to wear over all sorts of layering tops from denim button-downs to turtlenecks.

2. Vintage Crocheted Poncho: Looking for a lady-like poncho with vintage appeal?  Look no further than this crocheted piece from the etsy shop, The Retro Wardrobe.  It's honest-to-goodness vintage and handmade right down to the buttons.

3. Reversible Geometric Pattern Poncho: I love, love, love the pattern on this poncho.  And love the fact that it's reversible, so it's like getting two ponchos for the price of one.  Win-win!

4. Cuddle Climate Poncho: This poncho has a gorgeous red and gray color scheme and is perfect (perfect!) for wearing over my beloved turtlenecks.  I couldn't love it more.

5. eShakti Cape: You say poncho, they say cape.  Same thing.  Only, this version is a grown-up option more suited for work than for the pumpkin patch.  And I do recommend this cape for work; I have, and love, last year's version.

What about you, Reader Friends?  Will you be wearing a poncho this fall?

Happy Friday, All!

Big Ol' Blogger

I took a bit of a risk with this outfit, pairing a voluminous cape with a voluminous circle skirt:

The prevailing logic is that you're supposed to pair bulky pieces with slim pieces, but, I just didn't feel like it.  I wanted to wear my big ol' cape with a big ol' skirt and I didn't give a heck if it made me look like a big ol' blogger.

And, honestly, I just don't think it's that bad.  I felt great in this outfit.

With or without the cape, this outfit is just right up my sartorial alley:

I mean, it's a vintage circle skirt, a vintage cape and a turtleneck:

Cape: vintage, thrifted (save, splurge)  Turtleneck: LL Bean, thrifted (similar)
Belt: Michael Kors (similar)   Skirt: vintage, thrifted (similar)
Boots: Sole Society

So, yeah, if this is what a big ol' blogger looks like, I'll be that.  I'll be that all day long.

Happy Thursday, All!
