Maximum Swanning

It was very, very cold here today.  But, rather than complain, I decided to layer:

Specifically, I layered my LTS cape over a striped shirt and belted the whole thing with a studded belt:

All paired with a vintage skirt, tights and riding boots:

Cape: c/o Long Tall Sally  (similar)  Shirt: Gap
Belt: old Michael Michael Kors  Skirt: thrifted vintage (similar)  Boots: gifted (similar)

So, no, no complaining from me today.  Just maximum swanning.

Cropped & Striped

I'm wearing a cropped jacket with my cropped pants today:

Of course, the jacket isn't just cropped:

It's cropped and striped.

The pants, though, are just cropped:

Jacket: vintage silk  Pants: LOFT (similar
Blouse: Banana Republic Factory (similar)  Shoes: Steve Madden (similar)

I know, I know, I'm disappointed in their lack of stripes as well.

Almost, But Not Quite

Today I'm wearing another almost, but not quite, red, white and blue outfit:

I mean, make no mistake, this outfit has red, it has white, and it has blue.

Hell, it even has stripes:

But, instead of patriot-appropriate stars, I went with trees.  And some sort of scenery of something or other.  Look, I don't know, it's confusing.

The point is that, yes, at first glance, you see the striped top and the blue in the skirt and you might start humming a little Star-Spangled Banner:

Top: Nordstrom Rack (similar)
Skirt: gifted vintage  Sandals: Camper (similar)

But, then you take another look at the skirt, and the humming dies down as you realize that this outfit really isn't that patriotic after all.  Almost, but not quite.

Shirt Dresses Are Easy

It's true you know, shirt dresses are easy:

Kinda like Earth girls.

But, really, just add a belt and shoes and you're set:

Not that all shirt dresses (or aliens (have you seen Jeff Goldblum in that movie???)) are equal.  Some shirt dresses have pockets:

Dress: thrifted (similar sleeveless) (with sleeves)
Belt: thrifted (similar)  Sandals: Kork-Ease (similar)

In my opinion, pocketed shirt dresses are the best shirt dresses.  And Jeff Goldblum aliens are the sexiest best aliens.

Cobalt + Peach

InStyle magazine assured me in their latest issue that cobalt and peach are a good idea for spring.  So, I decided to give it a try:

And, I gotta tell you, if I hadn't read that article, I don't think I ever would have paired these two colors together.

Even after doing it, I'm still a little skeptical:

It's not that I think it looks bad, but my eyes are having a hard time adjusting to these two colors together.

I mean, cobalt and tangerine, sure.  But, cobalt and peach?  I'm just not sure that I'm one hundred percent sold on the idea:

Sweater: sold out Anthropologie (sort of similar here and here)
Pants: Gap (similar)  Shoes: v. old Corso Como (similar)

But, I'm glad I gave it a shot.  It's good to wander outside of your comfort zone sometimes.

Bright Tights

Sometimes I like to wear super-bright tights:

Even if only a sliver of the tights is visible, like in this outfit, it makes me happy to know that I have neon legs.

Because, with hot pink tights like these, a sliver is all you really need:

Just enough to make you happy.

I mean, sure, they also serve the purpose of picking up some pink in my sweater and therefore tying everything together:

Sweater: v. old Gap (similar)  Skirt: Land's End (similar)
Tights: HUE (similar)  Boots: Born Crown "Sosie" (similar)

But, I think we all know that I'm really just wearing them because they make me smile.

Just Enough

This outfit is striped and red.  And flared and leopard.  And there's a fox face in there.  Basically, there's a whole lot going on in this outfit:

But, I can't help it.  I love all off these pieces and I love them all together.

I mean, how great is my fox brooch with my striped shirt?

Pretty great, I'd say.

Also pretty great is the combination of the everything else with the rest of the everything else:

I guess what I'm saying is that I know this seems like too much, but for my personal aesthetic, it's just enough:

Jacket: thrifted vintage  Blouse: thrifted vintage (similar)
Brooch: vintage  Belt: v. old (similar)  Jeans: Gap  Boots: Franco Sarto "Eminent"

Yep, just enough.

Pleats and Stripes

Two things I have a lot of: stripes and pleated skirts.  Sometimes I like to wear them together:

And sometimes I like to wear those pleats and stripes with vests and ankle boots:

Although lately it feels as though I'm wearing this vest with everything.  And now that fall is officially here, I am definitely going to start wearing ankle boots with everything.

Like with these pleats and stripes:

Skirt: thrifted vintage (similar) (similar)  Tee: Gap
Vest: Old Navy (similar)  Earrings: handmade (similar)  Boots: Sole Society "Romy"

Stripes and Studs

Based on the title of this post, you're probably expecting something cool and a little bit rock n' roll.  Something like this:

Image via Pinterest

For those of you who thought that might be what you're getting, let me welcome you new readers to the blog.  Because if you've read me before, you know that my thighs would use those pre-made tunnels to escape those jeans and try to take over the world.

And you'd know that my version of stripes and studs is neither cool nor rock n' roll, but rather, candy-colored and cheery:

Dress: thrifted, vintage   Shoes: Lollipops via yoox

Because when I buy studs, they're on orange suede sandals:

And then I pair them with the happiest stripes I can my hands on:

Happy stripes, folks.  That's where it's at:

And happy Monday's, of course!

Golden Raisin

LOFT calls the color of this cardigan "golden olive":

Cardigan: LOFT   Tank: LOFT (similar)
Skirt: thrifted  Sandals: Isola via Nordstrom

But I've decided that it's more of a "golden raisin."  Because, one, I don't think golden olives are a thing, but golden raisins totally are, and they are delicious.  And two, I consider myself an expert on olive because I have an entire Pinterest board dedicated to it.  So, yeah, expert.

I guess what I'm say is, I know olive, and you, Sir, are no olive.  But, I still love you because you look great with stripes and actual olive:

And with red, and black and purple and every other color going on in this skirt.

So, yeah, this is not olive, it's golden raisin:

And it's great:

It's also sold out, unfortunately, but I do recommend it in Turquoise Bliss, which is actually teal.
