Feeling Plummy

I was feeling rather plummy the other day:

And yes, it's too cold for open-toed shoes.  But, as I'm sure you know, when you're feeling plummy, that feeling doesn't end at your feet.

So, of course I had to pair my plum pants with plum shoes:

I also added a sweater that doesn't match, but goes really really well:

And then there's the scarf; I don't think it contains the color of the pants or the sweater, but it still serves to tie the two together:

Pants: LOFT  Sweater: LOFT
Scarf: sister gifted (similar)  Shoes: Franco Sarto (similar)

Prints are just the best for that, aren't they?

Stripes and Layers

I pulled out my fall/winter clothes last weekend and that's always fun because I find things I forgot that I even owned.  Like this dress:

It's a sort of shapeless cut and so not the most flattering to my figure, but layering a jacket over it helps that issue:

Dress: Old Navy (similar)  Jacket: LOFT (similar)
Scarf: LOFT (similar)  Boots: Born (similar
At least that's what they say.

Also, in case you're curious, no, my scarf doesn't match my dress:

But, it goes.  And, as we all know, that's all that matters.

Tropically Speaking

I wouldn't say these shoes match my vintage tunic, but tropically speaking, they seem to go pretty well:

The grass and palm motifs work well together and the pieces have some colors in common too:

Tunic: vintage  Pants: LOFT (full length)
Shoes: Sam Edelman "Carol" Slingbacks

Basically, they have enough in common that I thought pairing them would be a good idea:

You know, tropically speaking.

Bright Skirt, Blue Shirt

But, not just any bright skirt.  My most favorite bright skirt:

I bought this vintage skirt at a Goodwill in Santa Fe, and I've loved it ever since.  Between the color and the pleats, it's basically the best ever.  I also love that my dear blogger friend, Jen, has a similar skirt!

And, this isn't just any blue shirt either.  It's one of my favorite blue shirts:

I love tropical prints.  Even a subtle tropical print like this one.

Because I remedied the subtlety of the shirt by pairing it with a very bright skirt:

Shirt: Gap (similar)  Skirt: vintage, thrifted (similar)
Shoes: Rieker, thrifted (similar)  Earrings: Kate Spade NY

As always, you're welcome.

A Little Going

The jewels on this sweatshirt do not match this skirt:

Top: LOFT  Skirt: thrifted vintage  Shoes: Old Navy (similar, similar)

But, the jewels on this sweatshirt go with this skirt:

LOFT Jeweled Sweatshirt

Why do they go?  Because the color of the jewels and the color of the skirt are in the same color family; that sort of burgundy/wine/claret color family.  They may not match, but being in the same family tricks the eye into thinking they match.  Or, close enough for government work.

Especially from far away:

See?

This trick is why you don't have to worry over much about whether or not what you're wearing matches.  The eye doesn't require a perfect match; it just requires a little going.
