I wore flame and teal today so I figured I'd feature flame for today's Five for Friday:
1. Calvin Klein Ellasandra Flats - These shoes delight me to no end. I know the white heel won't appeal to everyone, but I think it gives these flats a sort of retro flare and I love it. Also, they're under $40.00!
2. Loren Hope "Sophia" Stud Earrings - Big studs are a great earring choice for fall and winter because they won't get caught on your scarf like dangly earrings are prone to do.
3. Modcloth Plaid Circle Scarf - Speaking of scarves, this one is perfect for fall. It practically screams apple cider and pumpkin spice everything. Also, it has a bit of teal in there, so, yeah, perfect.
4. Gap Sheer Plaid Scarf - Don't like that much orange near your face? That's okay, we can still be friends (I guess). And you can wear this sheer scarf instead. It also has a bit of teal in it and so is also awesome.
5. Lands' End Cotton Shaker Cardigan - Last, but not in the least, least, we have this gorgeous flame-colored cardigan. It comes in teal as well as flame, is available in Regular, Petite and Tall, and I want one. Badly.
How about you, Reader Friends? Do you like "flame" for fall?
Happy Friday, All!

Fall Flame and Teal
Oddly enough, one of my favorite color combinations for fall is flame and teal:
I think this color is actually being called "Fiesta" this season, but I will always think of it as "Flame" in honor of my favorite corduroy pants ever.
And I will always want to wear it with bright blue:
Especially in the fall.
To me, this is a very "fall" color combination. It makes me think of bright autumn skies and bright autumn leaves and pumpkins. Basically, it's perfect for fall.
At least I think so:
Happy Friday, All!

Orange You Glad It's Spring?
I am. Or, rather, I would be if it hadn't snowed yesterday and dropped below freezing last night. I mean, it was so cold this morning that I was forced back into tights:
But, I can't complain too much because I paired those tights with my new orange skirt:
And a polka dot blouse:
Because orange and polka dots are two great things that look great together.
Happy Monday, All!

Flame On
I like to think of these flame-colored cords as my fall pants:
Because, as you can see, they are perfect for fall.
Can you wear flaming orange cords outside of fall? Sure, I guess you could. If for some reason you liked wearing fall pants in spring, you certainly could do that.
But, really, these are fall pants:
I like to pair my flame-colored fall pants with blue. One, because there is very little I won't pair with blue. And, two, because that color combination reminds me of the blue skies and orange leaves of fall.
Today I paired them with blue leopard; because blue leopard is awesome:
Especially with flame-colored cords:
Happy Monday, All! Or, I should say Happy Visible Monday because I'm finally linking up with Patti!
xoxo,
Gracey

Candy-Colored
It has been ridiculously cold here in Oregon this week. I'm talking highs less than 35 degrees cold. So I've been reaching for the warmest items in my closet. Items like this candy-colored wool sweater:
You can tell I'm freezing when I clench my fists. Well, I'm either freezing or prepared to defend myself against vicious squirrel attacks. One or the other.
I paired the sweater with my flame-colored cords:
Not because there is any flame in the sweater (there really isn't) but because I find cords warmer than jeans. And because I like yelling, "They don't have to match, dammit, they go!" at co-workers who still haven't quite grasped the concept. And because, as I've said before, brights in the winter make me happy.
But mostly for the co-worker yelling.
Happy Friday, All!

What Really Goes On
Most of my readers are used to seeing me look like this in
photos:
I’m usually smiling, because I like smiling, but also
because I think blogging is fun. I’m
usually front to camera because I like to clearly show the outfit I’m
wearing. And I usually have my arms at my
sides or have a hand on a hip because I can’t ever figure out what else to do
with my hands. (Moment of clarity: I bet
that’s why bloggers carry clutches. Now I get it.)
But, I think I owe it to you, Dearest Reader Friends, to
show you what the other 40 pictures that I don’t
post look like. To show you what really
goes on. Which, more often than not, is
stuff like this:
I am pretty much always talking and often
gesticulating. In the above photo I’m
demonstrating how it was so cold this morning that I had to break the ice on my
horse’s trough. I don’t have a horse.
And this:
And, in that photo
I am expressing confusion over my friend, Ferge’s, confusion about today’s color
combination.
I think flame cords (Target) and a lavender button-down (Gap
via Goodwill) make perfect sense. Ferge
does not. At least she didn’t criticize
the houndstooth shoes (Old Navy via Goodwill) though. But, really, who would criticize houndstooth
shoes? They so very clearly go with everything.
ETA: Although I don't consider my pants confusing, I'll admit that they're bright, so I've linked up to Visible Monday over at Not Dead Yet Style, hosted, as always, by the lovely Patti.

The World’s Tallest Third Grader
Today I am dressed like the world’s tallest third grader:
I didn’t do it on purpose (I like to think I’d never infantilize
myself on purpose). It’s just that the
shirt (vintage via Goodwill) and pants (Target) happened to be next to each
other on my laundry chair (the chair that holds the overflow of clean laundry
from my laundry basket) so I threw them on this morning.
But I like it. Yes, I
would have worn this as a third grader but I’m not embarrassed to be wearing it
now. It’s bright and happy and cozy and
involves my favorite pants, ankle-strap flats (Hive & Honey via Piperlime)
and a neon necklace (Target).
I tell you what, Friends; third graders might be on to
something.
Happy Thursday, All!

Lacy Gracey
True story, I was almost named Lacey. My mom wanted to name me Lacey but my dad
wanted to name me Grace after his Aunt Grace.
So, they compromised and called me Gracey.
Today though, I am also lacy (this one’s for you, Mom):
Last time I wore this necklace (Old Navy), I wore it with
oxblood and there wasn’t enough contrast between the two so the necklace sort
of got hidden. Today though, I wore it
with a lace sweatshirt (Macy’s) and you can finally see the detail.
In addition to the lace-on-lace, I also wore flame cords
(Target), houndstooth shoes (Old Navy, thrifted via Goodwill) and added a
little turquoise with earrings, bracelets and a belt (Target).
I love this belt:
And I love that today is Friday.
Also, did you all know the Super Bowl is Sunday? Somehow I missed that. I don’t really watch NFL though (I tend to
watch more college football (mostly for the helmets)) so, I don’t think I’ll be
watching the game. How about you, Reader
Friends? Any big plans for Super Bowl
Sunday?
Happy Friday, All!

Autumnal
I’m convinced that this is the perfect autumnal outfit, in
spite of the fact that it’s made up of brights:
(Exact Merona Cords, Similar Sweater, Similar Shoes)
And they are some BRIGHT brights too. But, I like the flame-orange cords (Target)
with the electric blue sweater (Nordstrom, thrifted). It could even be argued that I toned the look
down a bit with houndstooth shoes (Old Navy, thrifted) if, you know, you
consider houndstooth to be toned down. If
you don’t, well, then, yeah…
Really though, even with the bright brights and
not-exactly-neutral houndstooth, this outfit feels like fall to me. I think I feel that way in part because it
consists of cords and a sweater, which I think we can all agree is a classic
fall outfit. And, while I understand
that these may not be classic fall colors, I think they’re fall-like in
their own way. For me, they evoke images
of turning leaves, pumpkin patches and the blue fall sky before the rains come.
Of course, I could just be convinced this outfit feels like
fall because today finally felt like
fall. It was actually quite chilly on
the ride in and I may have to break out the mittens before the week is up. So exciting!
Happy Tuesday, All!
