Just Because I’m a Blogger

Going through my closet I realized that there are a few items that I’ve purchased just because I’m a blogger.  Like these loafers:

Last year, loafers were one of the trends that seemed to be catching fire throughout the blog-o-sphere.  As a blogger I felt compelled to try them because I thought that surely My Adoring Public (that’s you) would want to see all the latest trends on Their Favorite Blogger (um, that’s me).  And, while that may be, I think we may all have to come to terms with the fact that I’m not very trendy.  But... I am tall and sarcastic, so that’s something, right?  Right.

Today I paired that height and sarcasm with the aforementioned loafers (thrifted), gray shorts (New York & Co via Ross) and a sherbet-hued cotton sweater (thrifted).  I also added a watch, a couple of bracelets and some cameo earrings.  I find it an amusingly preppy look which is different for me but still kind of fun.

That being said, I don’t think that I’m going to keep the loafers.  I don’t ever wear them and I already have oxford flats that fill the “menswear-inspired-shoes-that-I-never-wear” gap in my closet.  I do want to keep a pair of androgynous shoes, in case I have a Victor/Victoria moment, but I think I’ll keep my oxfords instead of these.

The sweater and shorts are keepers for sure though.

Happy Wednesday, All!

  1. I specifically want a pair of stacked loafers, but I can't find them in my gigantic size. Yet. I have faith!

I like yours, and they look great with this outfit, but I'm slowly working my way up to a shoe cull, so I admire your willingness to just pass them on without agony and drama. I'm loving your closet shopping posts, btw!

  4. Hahaha! You are funny and spot on with this post! I have things I bought just because I'm a blogger, too!
I love the length of your shorts!

  5. I call it "Blogger Envy" when I buy things I've seen other bloggers wearing, and then wonder why I did :o Thankfully, it was a short phase, although it resulted in the purchase of my beloved Vogs.

I thrifted a pale sweater similar to yours, but only got to wear it once before the summer heat arrived. Yours looks great, and you don't look so much preppy, as really cool. I think tall peeps can get away with stuff that short peeps can't ;P

Also, your lipstick color is really lovely!

  6. haaa it's true about buying stuff as a blogger... I def do too. Lately I've been joneseing for a globe. Why? Because all the bloggers seem to have them on their desks.

Anyway, I'm not a fan of these shoes on you. Frankly, they're "not you" if that makes any sense! Donate those babies someone else will love them

  7. I'd say send them to meeeeeee, Gracey, but I think we probably don't have the same shoe size. More's the pity, though, because I really dig loafers, trend or no--I'll need to look for a pair of my own! I have definitely thought about buying things because I've seen them around the blargs (like neon), but usually don't end up buying anything because it's all super-trendy and I don't want to pay full retail price (like neon).

Anyhow, go forth, Gracey, and may your closet soon be full of only things you wear frequently!

  9. I think we all have had those moments where we wanted to go with the trends. I felt almost compelled to get some loafers myself, but I couldn't find any in my size during the searching period. Maybe it fast meant to be as I now would probably think the same as you. It just shows us that we should not go with the trend, but with what WE want! Loving the shorts and sweater though, nice colors!!!

  10. The good news is, you didn't spend a lot of money on them. Don't get rid of them yet. I want to have a swap party. They may be just the thing somebody wants!

  11. I lolled for a good three minutes over "Because I'm a blogger." I've DEFINITELY bought things I would never have bothered to buy if I weren't a blogger, lol.

I really like those loafers, too. They look stupid comfortable!

  12. You know, you started out talking about the loafers, but all I had eyes for was the adorable sweater! So cute on you! I'm definitely guilty of menswear-shoes-overbuying-but-not-wearing. Such a good look ON OTHER PEOPLE. We just need to acknowledge that you look adorable in your boots/booties and I love all my pretty flats beyond reason.

  13. I'm going to a drag party this weekend and looking for some androgynous shoes for it. I don't want to spend a lot of money on them because, like you, I know I just won't wear them. I basically only wear flats, sandals, boots and the ocassional wedge or pump. But you know what? I'm ok with that!

  14. Man. I love your honesty, Gracey. "Just Because I'm a Blogger" is probably the best line and title to a post ever. Your sarcasm is perfect!

  15. I remember some of the things I tried (thrifted, of course) because of blogging trends. Most of them have never worked out for me. I must not be cool enough... hehe.

  16. Funny. But they look magnificent on you. I've done the same thing. We are just more open to trends now that we are so focused on fashion. It's inevitable.

  17. It's true--we do shop/thrift things we've seen on other bloggers. I'm guilty of it too, but I'm probably NOT so good at weeding it out after the trend has moved on.

  18. hahah I love your witty posts and sarcasm. I'm trying to stay clear of trends but it's really hard when they saturate the general blog-o-sphere. Kudos to you for thrifting your trendy items. That being said, I alreadyy really like this look on you!

  19. I've done some blogger purchases myself and I admit I've developed a skill of thrifting stuff I know look good on photos but maybe not so great in real life. But because I do both rarely they only add more fun to my blogging!
