Of the eight black skirts in my closet, three of them are
pleated and two of them are midis.
One of the midis is also pleated:
I wore the pleated midi (thrifted) today with a black and
gray striped tee (Target) layered under a tan vest (thrifted). I added a black corset belt (JC Penney), a
few bracelets and the last of the supplies to reach me here in The Land of Nosh
Opping. I bought these Matiko Ella
wedges during an Ideeli Last Chance sale and they were airlifted into my base
camp in The Giant’s Closet last week. I
absolutely adore them.
I didn’t get a chance to a get a close-up shot of the wedges
but this photo shows the heel a little bit:
The other midi is not pleated:
I wore the non-pleated, tie-waist midi (vintage, thrifted) Tuesday with a neon pink silk tee (thrifted) and a white/multi cropped jacket (vintage). I also added camel wedges (Corso Como via Piperlime) and a blue glass-bead necklace (vintage).
I don’t think I need two black midi skirts in my closet, so
I’m going to get rid of the pleated one.
One, because I’ve already made the decision to keep one black pleated
skirt, so that hole is filled. Two,
because I think the non-pleated skirt may be more flattering and is equally
versatile. And three, because I don’t
wear the pleated midi skirt; I've had it in my closet for months and today is the
first time I’ve ever worn it. In part
because I have to pull it on over my head (the waist does fit over my hips) and
in part because it has a dropped waist which severely limits how I style it.
So, the pleated midi is out.
Also out is the vintage cropped jacket I wore Tuesday. Although it makes me happy with all its crazy
colors and its compatibility with neon, it’s too small across the shoulders
(darn you, Man Shoulders!), so it has to go. Sad face. And the vest I wore today is also going. That wasn’t a stylistic decision not to button that top button, folks; I couldn’t
if I’d tried. Even that second button is
holding on for dear life (darn you, Lady Boobs!), so the vest also has to go. Double sad face.
Happy Thursday, All!
Gracey

Too bad about the vest. That style looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteloving the color combos here and the black skirt in the first set of photos most of all!

In a way, it's kind of fun to get rid of clothes. All the freed-up space is nice! (Less laundry too.) I've been having a lot of luck selling my old stuff to places like Plato's Closet and Buffalo Exchange. I'm stopping by a few more places today, and the rest is probably going to go on ebay.

Shoes! Pretty! Drool....I think I may have to let some of the ladies in my closet go as well. I will comfort myself by saying that makes room for new friends that actually fit. Part of my problem is buying vintage that does not fit and telling myself I will sell it on Ebay. But I never do, and it just takes up space. BAH.

Those black wedges!!!
ReplyDeleteI often plot to raid your closet, A) because I love it and 2) because you're a fellow giant, but I may have to do more than plot when it comes to those shoes. Those shoes!!!
I have so many duplicates in my closet because I will buy the same thing over and over again because I like it. I just might need to try what you are to clear out some room. I love your edges and both outfits look really nice on ya!
ReplyDeleteTwo more adorable black skirts and two more adorable outfits. I really love the pleated black midi skirt in the first outfit, but a girl only needs so many pleats, so I understand the decision to let it go. Also adore that colorful cropped jacket in the last look. This skirt post series has been great! Love seeing all of these lovely black skirt ideas!
ReplyDeleteIt's crazy that the pleated skirt has a dropped waist. I really like how you've styled it with the vest, but I agree that the other black midi expands the profiles of your collection of black skirts.
ReplyDelete8 black skirts? good-bye pleated midi.
ReplyDeleteYou always look so nice. I find your constantly good outfits to be inspiring.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed with your ruthlessness. Everything you've worn so far has looked good, so if it were me I know I'd be hemming and hawing and tempted to just keep it all!
ReplyDeleteI'm really enjoying your reporting on your progress! I found one sweater I'm ready to say goodbye to today and rediscovered my love for another.

Ruthlessness is the way to go! Hack and slash your way through that closet. This year, I keep taking bags of stuff to Goodwill as I realize that I haven't worn them in years. (This of course is allowing me to buy more stuff, but at least I now have room!)
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! Taking no prisoners in this closet raid! I love the pleated midi but all of those reasons you gave to get rid of it are super valid.
ReplyDeleteHannah Tattoos and Pearls
well done for letting stuff go! I love the pleated skirt though, should it look for a new owner... ;)
ReplyDelete2 lovely skirts. The first one is my favorite!
ReplyDeletewhile i think they both look great on you, i think you made the right decision! as soon as i saw that second one, i loved it on you!
ReplyDeleteI sincerely wish that I lived near you so I could just start standing outside the goodwill whenever you say you're dropping things off. That vest is just killing me so much, and I'm bummed that your boobs are continuing their conquering streak and trying to escape, with the aid of those bandit bra straps.
ReplyDeleteGreat title. Love both looks. Super cute.

I love the utilitarian feel of the first look and the pretty colors in the second look! I'm purging things from my closet, too...so out with the old (and maybe in with some new items!). ;)
ReplyDeleteThose wedges are amazing!!
ReplyDeleteYour shoes are gorgeous Gracey and you wear them so beautifully. dawn suitcase vignettes xo
