In the Valley of the Duplicates

Over the next two weeks I will be exploring an area in The Giants Closet called the Valley of the Duplicates.  So far in the Valley of the Duplicates, I have discovered seven white skirts and eight black skirts.

Yes, I own eight black skirts.  Sure, they are all of varying lengths, fabrication and style, but it’s still eight black skirts.  Which, if I’m honest, seems at least a bit excessive.  So, I will be wearing, tossing or wearing and then tossing all of those skirts over the next week or so.  Starting with this black maxi skirt:

I paired the skirt (Target) with a cobalt tie-front blouse (Old Navy) and pewter sandals (Lovely People via Piperlime).  I also added a cuff (thrifted) and yellow hoop earrings (Nordstrom)

This skirt is one of my more recent, pre-Nosh Opping Expedition purchases from a time when I was single-handedly keeping my local Target afloat.  In my defense, I had a black maxi skirt on my list for some time so it wasn’t an impulse purchase.  But, I did also have seven other black skirts in my closet at the time, so, yeah.

Still, I think this one’s a keeper.  As a giant it can be hard to find maxi skirts (and dresses) that are long enough, but I think this one works.  Also, it’s super comfortable, so, yes, this one stays.

Tomorrow, I will bring you Black Skirt # 2.

Happy Monday, All!

  1. Isn't it great how Target's maxi skirts (and dresses) are...maxi, even on giants like us? I have a couple that I have been wearing nonstop this spring.

  3. You have 8 black skirts, I probably have 8 black shirts (and I'm not counting camis!) Black skirts are really versatile, so I can definitely understand having a few. Love the maxi!

  4. You sound like me with striped shirts - I probably have 8 or 9. I do wear them all, though, so...I guess that makes it ok?!

  5. This skirt is really cute. I was on a blog, don't ask which one because I have NO clue which one it was, but the blogger had taken a long skirt like this and tied a knot at the hem on one side that looked like a flower. It was awesome. Duplicates? who me?? LOL

  6. Ya know, I can get behind the 8 black skirts. Most versatile color on the planet! However, 7 white skirts? I have one white skirt. Okay, actually, make that 2, and I struggle so much with styling them! What's your secret?

BTW now I have a black maxi skirt on my wish list :) Lookin' good, lady!

  7. I love this idea! It's a great way to document all them clothes. I might copycat this.

Also, this weekend I found a pair of pants that I'm purging in honor of you. I'll post about it later this week!

  10. Now you've got me thinking and wondering how many duplicates I might have--I just have two black skirts, but at least three pair of khaki pants, some that I haven't worn in a looong time.

  12. I like your strategy here, Gracey! I'm not sure I have many duplicates of any one thing, but my closet is nevertheless somewhat overfull, so I'll have to start breaking things into categories. I definitely dig why you're keeping this'n, it'll be fun to see the others.

  13. I love this skirt! I think a classic black maxi just can't be beat. It looks great paired with the bright blue top. I have quite a few duplicates in my closet as well. Love the idea of remixing them!

  14. You're clever- I like the Valley of the Duplicates in the land of Nosh Opping. Awesome. I thought of you and sent you good thoughts this weekend as I went thrifting. It takes so much willpower to not get new items especially when they're so cheap! But I support you wholeheartedly and can't wait to hear more about your adventures in your closet! I'm trying to wear everything I have as well, but it's a long row to hoe when I keep buying new stuff!

  17. Oh, yeah, they will pry my long-enough black maxi skirt off my cold, dead waist. They're such incredibly useful pieces, I wouldn't want to be without one.

Good luck on the cull! I've still got too many pair of jeans, but I did make a dent.

  18. O wow. 8 black skirts is a lot BUT it means you will never be without a black skirt. I guess that doesn't really make sense, what I just said. Anyways. I like the black maxi and I think it should be a keeper too!!
