Some Damn Stylish Nuns

Today a co-worker told me that my shoes reminded her of the shoes the nuns at her school used to wear when she was younger.  I figure those must have been some damn stylish nuns, because I love these shoes:

Image via shoes.com

They are the Naya “Jada” pumps that I’ve been wearing for the past year.  Last year they were burgundy.  This year they are oxblood.  Such is the way of fashion.

Of course, I didn’t just wear shoes:

I also wore a pleated polka dot skirt (thrifted) and a mustard yellow blouse (Old Navy).  I added a leopard-print belt (via a disremembered source) because I’m obsessed with leopard and polka dots like blogger-friend Tracy is obsessed with leopard and stripes.  And I finished the look with a vintage bracelet (Monet via Red Fox Vintage) and drop earrings (Target, v. old).

Because my skirt is thrifted and the belt may be, I’ve linked up to Callie’s Thrifter Thursday over at Coffee and Cardigans.

Happy Thursday, Everyone!

Gracey

  2. How comfy are these guys? Cause I LOVE them and want some, but I fear walking to and from public transit and all over the hospital won't make my feet happy. What's your professional opinion??

    Also, this outfit is gorgeous.

    1. In my professional opinion, these are great. Really. I've never had a problem walking or standing in these shoes. The sole is made of some special, magical material and they also have a padded insole. They're probably my most comfortable shoes.

And, if you really want to go the stylish nun route, they come in black too!

  3. This outfit is awesome and it's because of those shoes. That nun comment is hilarious and sounds like it comes from someone who likes to put things into neat tidy little boxes. You look great!

  5. Oxblood. What an intense color, haha. I don't think that type of shoe compliments my wardrobe whatsoever, but you seem to always tie them into yours. (:

  6. I have a soft spot for combining muted-tone versions of red, yellow, and blue - beautifully done, Gracey! Also, "damn" stylish nuns - lol. :D Those shoes are lovely.

  8. I think I have the exact same polka dot skirt. I also bought it at a thrift store. Value Village in Salem, OR a few years ago. I remember that thrifting trip fondly. Probably my best finds to date!

  9. Really cute! My mom had a lot of nun friends when I was a small kid. They came over and would hang out and spend the night too. They wore beautifully well made oxfords and the leather was so nice they squeeked a bit when they walked. I think from way back then I always love well made sturdy shoes with a slight masculine appeal. These shoes you have are perfect all the way down to the color!

  11. Ha, you've gotta love it when someone gives you a "nun comment." I've actually received several of those :)

I do think those shoes are way too stylish for all the nuns I've ever seen! And I used to work at a Catholic church, so I've seen a lot of them.

  12. Those shoes! Shoooooes. The word that comes to mind when I gaze upon them is definitely "bluestocking"--like some Victorian-era lady who pretends to be a quiet spinster governess but who really spends her time kicking ass and taking names all over the place in the name of equality for all. Is that weird? I'm going to pretend that's not weird.

  15. By coincidence, on my way home tonight I stopped in the supermarket to pick up some salad and, right behind me at the cashier were two nuns. Their shoes weren't half as nice as these!

The rest of the outfit rocks, too. I love your style.

  16. My lone encounter with a nun was when I tried to take violin lessons from one--so I don't really know what nuns wear on their feet. I like these shoes!

  18. Heh, with those shoes, you could get away with wearing just them. That ribbon tying them is a really cute feature and ahhh, burgundy.

I flat out love these sleeveless blouses from Old Navy. The shoulder darts are so flattering on everyone, the blouse has fantastic draping and wow, I had not seen this yellow color yet! (Yellow looks fantastic on you btw) I really am a fan of the combo of the yellow and the polka dotted skirt.

  21. Oh my, these shoes are to die for! I love them! :) And I have a very similar polka dot skirt, so of course I love that too!

To answer your question, I'm a huge fan of Murakami and The Wind-up Bird... became one of my all time favourite books. I definitely recommend giving it another go! I love the rich layers of realities and dreams and subconsiouses in Murakami's work, can't get enough! My other favourites from him are Dance Dance Dance and Hard Boild Wonderland...

  23. This is such a killer outfit combination Gracey! I really love the mix of patterns and colors here...and those oxblood shoes! It's funny how they change the name of things from season to season. Either way - they are gorgeous!

  24. I don't get nuns out of these incredibly cute shoes. I imagine them wearing sort of chunky black orthopedic type shoe, but I don't want to give them a bad fashion rap, never having seen nuns' shoes up close :/

You look like sunshine again today. I'm also crazy about your skirt.
