My Absence

As I'm sure a few of you noticed, I haven't posted anything since Tuesday.  This is because on Wednesday morning, our much loved beagle, Dexter, passed away suddenly.  Luckily my family was able to be with him, to say goodbye and tell him how much he was loved, as he took his final breath.  But, to be honest, that was little consolation to me; I loved my dog very much and took his passing rather hard.  I've spent much of the last five days in tears and so spent the remainder of last week at home with my family.

Although I still miss my dog very much (it's absolutely heart-breaking not to be able to see his with a wagging tail and goofy smile any more), I plan on returning to work tomorrow and will return to blogging, (either tomorrow or Tuesday) as well.

Thank you all for understanding,

Gracey

  2. Take your time returning to blogging. What a loss - to not have your beloved dog greet you at the door is the greatest of sadnesses.

  3. Poor Dexter. And poor you. I'm happy though, to hear how much your family loved and respected him. That sort of thing is important, I think; Certainly it makes a big difference to a dog.

  6. Oh Gracey I am so sorry sweetie! Both my daughter's birds died 6 months apart. Our pets become like members of the family and I know it is hard. I am sure that in time you will come in contact with another dog that pricks your heart that you will love just as much as you loved Dexter! Kiah

  9. You have my deepest sympathy. We lost our 11 year old lab-dane mix in December and I am still grieving. There is nothing like the unconditional love of a wonderful dog. Hang in there.

  11. I think the only people who don't understand how hard it is to lose a pet are the ones that haven't lost one. And having it happen suddenly is so much worse. Take your time!

  18. I've never met you, Gracey, but I just absolutely know that with you Dexter had the best home and the best life he could possibly have had.

When my dog died a friend sent me this:

"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

"When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health; those who were hurt are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them.

"The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind.

"They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, the happy kisses rain upon your face, your hands again caress your pet’s beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

"Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together. . . ."

  20. :( I'm so sad for you. My families have lost two dogs in the last two years, and it's so hard to say goodbye. Chico and Houdini will always be a part of my heart, as I'm sure Dexter will be a part of yours. In the time since then, three new dogs have joined my families (one on one side, two on the other) and I'm glad that our new friends will get time to make their own mark and places in our world. Your doggie will be in my thoughts.

  27. Gracey, I'm sorry about your beloved pet.
We do need time to mourn and heal after loosing a pet that was a member of our household.
Sending you my love and support,

  28. Oh Gracey, I'm so very sorry about your furry friend Dexter. There is no greater love ( in my mind) then the unconditional love from a dog. They become so much a part of the ebb and flow of our everyday lives that their loss is a huge void. I'm sending good vibes your way. And I beleive in the bottom of my heart that he had a great life surrounded with a fabulous family that loved him.

    Godspeed little Dexter.

  29. sorry to hear about Dexter. My fam had a beagle growing up too....it was very sad when she passed away. The only consolation was that I knew she was in pain while alive. And it's super sad to see an animal in pain but unable to understand what's happening. My heart goes out to you and your family.
