The Skirt Likes Leopard

Yesterday, Kelley, of Threads and Buttons, rescued one of her closet orphans and I remembered, “Hey, I have closet orphans – they might like to be rescued.”  This skirt is the orphan I decided to rescue today:

I actually have a great fondness for all of my closet orphans; I’m just not fond enough of them to wear them regularly.  This skirt is no exception; I like the color and the length and the fullness but I never wear it.  At first it was because it used to be a little big in the waist.  So, I took it in.  And I still never wore it.  But today?  Today the yellow linen skirt has been liberated.

I paired the skirt (thrifted Eileen Fisher) with a knotted white blouse (Banana Republic) and leopard mini-wedges (v. old via Ross) because the skirt hinted that it liked leopard.  I figured “who doesn’t” and added the leopard wedges and some bracelets (Mom-made) to tie them in.  And I liked it.  I just don’t know how versatile this skirt is going to be for me.  The skirt would like me to point out that the fact that I don’t have the imagination for multiple pairings isn’t it’s fault.  And that’s true – I should probably try harder before just giving up.

To that end, how do you all think this skirt would look with grey?

Happy Thursday, Everyone!

  2. I'm in love with this outfit! I <3 everything about it. So feminine and fresh with a bit of flirty funkiness w/ the shoes. Your outfits never fail to wow me! (And of course that lovely smile is the best accessory!) ;)

  4. Nice! I think it work with grey, and I wonder if you've ever considered pairing it with red? That's one of my favourite colour combos, which, admittedly, isn't for the fainthearted when it comes to colour mixing, but you could totally pull it off. Love the leopard print as well -- the yellow skirt is wise.

    Closet orphans, never despair! :)

I've never read Moore but I will look out for her books now! :)

  6. Definitely gray--I have yellow pants and the other day I wore them with a steel-gray top. Also, I often pair the yellow pants with a navy top as well.

  10. Yellow is surprisingly versatile, and grey and yellow are a favorite of mine. White, navy, red, and stripes, also look really great with yellow.

  11. I actually LOVE this skirt!! I think grey goes with everything, so pile it on Gracey! And obviously, the skirt has very good taste, re: those leopard shoes. You should listen to it more often.

  12. Loooooooooove!!!! Although I don't often pair the two colors together myself, I like yellow and gray together whenever I see other people do it, so you should give it a shot.

  13. I love yellow, so I vote on bringing out this skirt more often.

I like how the width of your top around the shoulders, combined with the flaring of the skirt, creates an X-type shape. I can use that effect, since my body is a straight cylinder. Thanks for the idea.

  14. I love that skirt's shape and color, plus linen is awesome. I vote for grey, teal, and red as pairing colors. As long as they aren't crazy bright they should look awesome.

  15. Definitely likes leopard! And a high-waisted, knotted blouse. And earthy bangles. Nothing I don't like about this, either!

  16. I love it that the skirt told you it wanted to be paired with leopard. Smart skirt!

Yellow and gray play nicely together, so go for it. I also like yellow and cobalt blue. And when I'm feeling royal, I wear yellow and purple.

    Have a great weekend!

  17. I am craaaaazy about this skirt. Love the yellow so hard. Also, I spent 20 minutes trying to find this yellow-and-grey outfit from Already Pretty to link here:

Hers is more of a mustardy yellow, but yellow and grey works nicely! Your look here is super awesome. I'm a big fan of yellow with white. If I were styling it and wanted a different color, though, I might try orange? Or grassy green? Or maybe turquoise??? I know, I'm living on the edge here.

  18. i really like this Gracey! especially how you incorporated the tied shirt. I haven't been able to figure that one yet, without it becoming an in your face boob shirt (the tie ends up being right under my boobs). maybe look at the EBEW page for yellow to get more ideas on how to wear this skirt -- it's a fabulous color on you.

  19. Oh, thanks for the sweet shout out girly :) I think you did a great job rescuing an orphan! That yellow skirt with leopard print shoes? FAB. And I love how you knotted that shirt. I think the skirt would make a great color-blocking piece. And it looks pretty high-waisted, so maybe a tuck and/or a wide belt would look good too? Looks like you're getting lots of great ideas from everyone :)

  22. Always say yes to gray. It is a vastly underutilized neutral. I think your closet orphan is adorable!
