You guys, it has been absolutely been freezing here in
Oregon. Today, for example, it is 27
degrees, but feels like 20. I tried to
dress accordingly:
Seriously, it’s frickin’ cold and maybe it’s because I’m continuing to ride my bike, but I can’t seem to dress warmly enough.
I thought today’s outfit of jeans (Bandolino via Macys), a cozy
sweater (Old Navy), wool socks and riding boots (Enzo Angolini “Saylem”) would
work, but I was actually still cold. Especially on the ride in. I’m happy it’s not raining, but by the time I
get to work I am still pretty well frozen in spite of a scarf, stocking cap and leather gloves.
And my office is not remotely overheated either, so I stay chilled all
day.
I think I’m going to continue with jeans, sweaters &
boots for the rest of the week, but may have to add tights under my jeans and
another pair of socks.
What about you, Reader Friends? Do any of you have any tricks for staying warm
in the winter?
Happy Monday, All!
Stay Warm!
Gracey

Well, I admire you for continuing to ride your bike! It has been freezing here, too - like 9 degrees! My problem is that my office is actually very warm, so it is difficult to be comfortable both outside and inside. Layers are my best friend!
ReplyDeleteRecently I've been tying a silk scarf around my head and under my chin for biking to work on those cold mornings--I look kind of silly, but the silk keeps my ears quite warm, which is a bonus. You could also try tying a silk scarf around your neck so you lose less heat that way? Or tie something across your nose and mouth for the ride; I know Tia made herself a little fleece cowl thing to wear for biking in Chicago winters and she seemed to like it, although you might need to consult her on how to do that without also fogging up your glasses to high heaven.
ReplyDeleteAh sweet leopard spots this sweater is super cute on you! Yes it has been frozen over here in OR, I am dying too! I am a huge fan of the fleece leggings under everything these days. For me jeans are too cold with this weather, I prefer dresses with warm leggings and my trusty light down jacket from Eddie Bauer~ it's an absolute must for me to even go outside.
ReplyDeleteXXOO
Aaaagh, the cold weather is driving me nuts! I haven't even bothered posting outfits the past week because I've been so cold, I just throw on whatever's warmest, which usually turns out to be unflattering.
ReplyDeleteGive me some of that cold weather, please! I can't take 80 degree weather in January. I love that animal print sweater. Looks so comfy. Adorable!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Marla! (in Florida!) I want to wear a gorgeous sweater like yours right now : >
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute little sweater, Gracey - loving the leopard!
ReplyDeleteI think Krista is right, denim seems a chilly fabric to me (as I recall from days of yore when I used to wear jeans a lot!) Are cosy leggings and skirts/dresses possible? And layers. And scarves. Thermals!
Try and stay warm, my dear! xxxx
Well you look lovely despite the cold! Can I suggest- merino wool leggings (they will fit under skinny jeans as are very thin but warm), also merino tops/base layers (natural fabric so no stank - tmi?) plus wearing a silk neck scarf bandit style then a wool scarf over the top - blcks out cold. That tip comes courtesy of my Nan ;-)
ReplyDeleteGracey you make the simplest outfits look so good... love that sweater and you always have such great boots!
ReplyDeleteI don't "do" cold weather either... today I wore four pairs of socks and was only just warm enough. In fact we counted how many items of clothing we were all wearing in the office - I won: 12!! I do like to layer ;)

Wow! you are one brave woman to ride a bike in that cold weather. I always wear some kind of tank/undershirt under any sweater I wear, unless I have a turtleneck on. I don't think sweaters are that warm.
ReplyDeleteMy best trick for staying warm - stay in bed! Also make sure you're eating plenty of protein and good fats (like fish/avocado/nuts/etc). I also attempt to wear as much wool as possible.
ReplyDeleteCute ensemble here
ReplyDeleteI am sad to inform you that our weather took a dramatic turn this weekend and we have been in the 70's for gosh sake
I don't want to be freezing, but this is ridiculous for Jan
Brett
Brrr! It was about that cold here, too! My solution? Vintage Fur Coat...I swear it's THE warmest thing ever!

You look so great, Gracey! Thirding the denim-is-cold, though. Brrr! You are a cycling superheroine.
ReplyDeleteWhen needed, I am all about the earflap trapper hat, ski pants, Sorels, and plenty of scarf action myself. For in the office I have a merino wool wrap which I am not shy about draping over my head - you know how I feel about nuns! Keep warm, my friend!
I think you look cozy! I'd hug you for added warmth. ;)
ReplyDeleteI hate it when my legs get cold. I can't seem to warm up until I put an extra layer on. But some tights or leggings are horribly uncomfortable under pants, like when they ride down below the pants. I've switched mainly to leggings underneath pants because they seem to fit better. Or at least footless tights. Also, socks that have wool in them are way warmer than cotton socks. One time I tried some gel insoles in my shoes in the winter time and it felt like I was on ice! So, don't do that. LOL
Stay inside. Explains all my grotty inside pics, too.
ReplyDeleteJust reading 27 degrees gives me the shivers. My sis loaned me her Lands End full length "sleeping bag" coat, and I've sort of forgotten to give it back. Makes doggie walking when it's below freezing much more tolerable.
Fortunately I'm a pro at cold weather layering. When it gets really cold here (sadly, colder than 27!), I usually add long underwear to my ensemble. I like cuddlduds (available at Target and Kohl's), and Rad's always recommended Winter Silks. I even wear them over tights if I'm wearing a skirt, and they definitely help keep me warm! Then I just take them off when I get to work. Also, try adding a hoodie under your coat if you're still cold - the hood will help keep you warm too.
ReplyDeleteAnyway. I love this outfit! The sweater is so cute!
Leg warmers!
ReplyDeleteWe have been FREEZING here in Seattle, too! Seriously! I've been wearing my normal fare, except lots and lots of scarves and gloves, and mittens. I could probably do with more sweaters, but for that I'd need to do some more shopping. Mmmmm... shopping...
ReplyDeleteAh yes, dressing for winter is so tricky because you get super warm when you go inside a building! I think you did it beautifully though, that sweater is gorgeous! I wear a lot of leggings and boots in the winter and I buy my boots big so I can wear lots of socks!
ReplyDeleteFor me the trick is layers, layers, layers! A pair of cotton or wool blend tights under your jeans, warm socks, and a long sleeved tshirt under your sweater will make a huge difference! I also double up on gloves sometimes.
ReplyDeletei'm impressed that you are still riding your bike! good for you. it's really cold in minnesota for most of the year, so i have lots of tips. i have the ugliest long down coat and lots of winter accessories. i might look a bit frazzled when i take it all off, but it's worth it to stay warm when i'm outside!!
ReplyDeleteCuddle Dudds are my friend every day. I wear them under everything. The have a layer that works as a wind breaker which is often times why it feels so darn cold. I also wear another shirt or tank underneath. Layers, layers, layers. Plus of course a scarf (or sometimes two if one is for warmth and the other for style), leather gloves and a coat made of wool and cashmere. I've also worn a hoodie under my coat if it's ridiculously cold. I do not do well in the cold. You are a better woman than me.
ReplyDeleteIt hit 61F here yesterday. I've been waiting for it to get cold enough to wear all my warm clothing, like my favorite long grey sweater. I've also knit up some accessories, like a cowl and legwarmers, that I may never get to wear this season!
ReplyDeleteLove this outfit! You look fantastic!! Leopard is just so fun to wear!

Reasons I would suck at living up north include that I would wear your outfit when our temperatures in New Orleans are in the 50s. Aaah, I already saw the next post where people suggested silk and layers and wool. I'm with them on that and I recommend fleece lined leggings if you can find them. I have a pair of fleece lined tights and they are slightly warmer and feel really good against the skin. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteI know that you already have got a lot of suggestions, but I have to say that I can't do without a warm hat although it destroys my hair for the rest of the day. I also think layers on layers is a key, and for goods sake tuck in your camisole. If it is really cold, you might prefer to take the shower in the evening, so that your skin and hair is completely dry when you bike in the morning. But someone might already have said all of this.
ReplyDeleteMy brother swears by Uniqlo Heattech undergarments, which are thin and can be layered under jeans/sweaters/t-shirts etc. I've worn them to Tokyo when it's below freezing/snowing and they did the trick keeping my legs/torso warm!
ReplyDeleteUniqlo operates in NY, NJ, and has one store in SF, so I'm afraid right now they are only mail order for the rest of the U.S.
you look good in casual wear too! :) i want a leopard print sweater that looks as great as yours does gracey.
