Houndstooth reminds me of the late 80s/early 90s; specifically, it reminds me of a pair of houndstooth stirrup pants from Victoria ’s Secret that I coveted with all my heart. That association makes me a little hesitant to embrace this fall’s houndstooth trend, but, as it turns out, it’s still something I’ve got in my closet:
I actually have a couple of houndstooth pieces in my closet and have for a couple of years now, but, don’t worry, no stirrup pants. In fact, both pieces are skirts, one A-line and one pencil and today I wore the houndstooth pencil skirt:
I paired the skirt (thrifted) with a teal top (Nordstrom) under a men’s cranberry cardigan (vintage Jantzen, thrifted), a black faux-croc belt (INC via Macy’s), black tights (Spanx “Tight End Tights” via Nordstrom) and burgundy shoes (Naya “Jada” via Nordstrom). Full disclosure: I copied this color scheme from Katha Strophe, whose blog, Kathastrophal, I’ve just started reading, but she said it was okay.
Also, it’s Thursday and I think we all know what that means. That’s right, today is the Spunky Chateau Thurday’s are for Thrifters Link Party. And, of course, I’m still linked up to the 260 Days, No Repeats “I’ve Got This” challenge. Basically, it’s a pretty link-tastic day.
Happy Thursday, All!

Cute look. I love houndstooth, too. My favorite dress (by J. Simpson) is in it. I'm swooning over the thought of stirrup. Pants!
ReplyDeleteOops! Sorry for the weird punctuation. It's hard to type on an iPad.
ReplyDeleteAh stirrup pants. I feel like I may have had a pair of houndstooth ones even. But I remember them always gaping at the crotch or pulling in the knee because they were too short for my giant-ness. Bodysuits were a problem for me when those were in, too. I know what you mean, though. I'm always hesitant to wear anything I used to wear in my grade school days.
ReplyDeleteyou look amazing! Love your skirt! :)
ReplyDeleteKisses!
HOORAY! OMG! You have the Naya "Jada" pumps. I've had those babies on my wishlist for months and months. =) I love, love, love Naya shoes!
ReplyDeleteCuuuuuute! I own no houndstooth myself but the pattern looks very lovely on you hun ^_^ Just stumbled on this 'challenge' steup and it looking very intfiguing ^_^ MUST verse myself more on this lol

It's funny how associations can ruin a good hound's tooth! lol. but those stirrup pants can do that to you--and then I saw them again last year--ugh!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love houndstooth- I have a similar skirt and I find it photographs very wonky from far away (almost like a psychadelic pattern!) Your shoes are great and you have such a nice smile!
ReplyDeleteGreat outfit! I very badly want some houndstooth this season, probably a skirt, but I'm keeping an open mind. No stirrup pants, though! Even if I didn't have bad flashbacks about the 80s, the stupid things never fit me properly, and always rolled down.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I saw the close-up of the houndstooth, I thought, "That would go perfectly with something teal-colored..."
ReplyDeleteAnd lookee there! You didn't disappoint! In fact, I like the extra color of the berry...very fall-y! ;)
Very nice skirt. I just got a vintage houndstooth skirt but I haven't worn it yet. You've just given me an idea of how to wear it. Thanks!

Gracey, I love those shoes!!!! I, too, am trying to embrace the houndstooth again. I just recently thrifted a houndstooth skirt that about 3 sizes to big for me but I'm going to refashion it into something; I'm not quite sure yet. I just may end up making it a pencil skirt that will fit me. Love yours!
ReplyDeleteLove the way you rocked this trend! xo style, she wrote
ReplyDeleteNice color scheme to copy! Love the skirt and the shoes are great. I love black and white with colors and this is a great combination! Debbie http://thriftygirlvintage.com

I love your interpretation of the colour scheme, you look fantastic. I've also got a houndstooth pencil skirt and you've inspired me to wear it with something really colourful :)

I LOVE houndstooth! I think it's a classic print that will never go out of style. You look great. I love the pop of color you added to your outfit :)
ReplyDeleteStirrup pants! Wow, that brings back memories. Thankfully, unlike stirrup pants, houndstooth has never gone out of style. I love how you styled the skirt, and those are some cute shoes!
ReplyDeleteI really like that the houndstooth (are you tired of seeing that word yet?) you have here is small and has a nice tweedy-looking texture--I like it better than the large houndstooths that I've seen. Between that and your shoes, I'm sold! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love your houndstooth skirt! I just started designing oversized clutches and was seriously thinking of making some houndstooth printed ones.

Love this library-chic look on you :) The houndstooth pencil skirt is so cute (and awesome that you already had in your closet) and I absolutely love how you paired it with those cute burgundy heels + black tights and that MENS cardi? Oh what an amazing idea - it looks great on you and makes me want to track down my own "mr rogers" sweater to snuggle up in!
