I love wearing red, white and blue this time of year. It’s a color combination that just screams ‘summer’ to me. And who am I to ignore that screaming? Right? Right.

| Here I'm demonstrating smiling patriotism. Also rather finely. |
I don’t wear red, white and blue on the Fourth of July (I don’t know why. I refuse the allure of Christmas sweaters too) but I definitely like wearing it during the summer months. Today I paired my skirt (J. Crew Factory Store) with a handmade gingham blouse (thrifted), braided cognac belt (thrifted) and woven bone flats (thrifted). I know bone isn’t really white, but white shoes are just so white to me.
What about you all? Do you have any favorite color combinations for summer?

P.S. For those of you who eagerly opened this post hoping to see me posed with an American Girl doll, I’m sorry to disappoint you. I’d say maybe next time but I’d hate for you to be disappointed two days in a row.

Seriously, lady, I want to see a Felicity/Kirsten/Samantha/Molly doll here (I know there are now many other dolls, but I'm old school American Girl)! Although I think Kirsten did have a gingham dress...
ReplyDeleteGracey, YOU are a doll! :) Such a pretty outfit!
ReplyDeletei love red white and blue together. and i love gingham. it's my latest obsession. found a great thrifted blue gingham shirt the other day. fell in love! seriously, this is adorable. and how funny you have coral cardi and a blue dress just like me. i was thinking someday you and i should do a cross blog outfit where we show that a shorty and a giant can wear the same thing and it looks good!

I love your red, white and blue! Fresh and sassy ;) Growing up in Canada, I had no idea there was an American Girl doll... I should invent a Canadian Girl doll. Complete with a flannel shirt, a down vest and bacon. Eh?
ReplyDeleteThis skirt SCREAMS summer. I love it!
ReplyDeleteCute! I need to start thrifting. You look all set for a BBQ or summer festival. Now I have Katy Perry's "Firework" stuck in my head for some reason.
ReplyDeleteI love the color combo, because I love all things nautical and that is what I always associate red white and blue with. forget Americana, i like boats.

American Girls! I liked Kirsten because of her awesome braids that kind of looked like pretzels or something.
ReplyDeleteAnyhoodle, this is cute! I never thought I could pull of gingham because it generally makes me think of picnic tablecloths, but this combo looks cute and summery without being costumey.
this outfit is SO cute!! i love that skirt on you!!

I love the color combo and who can resist a skirt with pockets!!! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI love the camaraderie of dressing up for holidays. If fashion shares your identity and mood and so forth, then holiday dressing shows my enthusiasm for the holiday! I don't dress up for holidays I don't care about, but when I am into a holiday, I go all out!
ReplyDeleteI hate dressing up for/with holidays as well. I will occasionally do it to please my mama, but I would never choose to do it. But this (as a non-fourth-of-July) outfit is adorable!
ReplyDeleteYou're right, you look so summery and so lovely too! :)
ReplyDeleteThe flats are gorgeous, whatever their colour. :)
this is such a great take on red, white, and blue! it's so summery and reminds me of picnics and fireworks!
